History

After the Great Fire of 1912, the land on which Blandy Lane now sits was a wasteland, an empty block on which debris from the Great Fire was left. Upon its completion, the block was named Bland Lane, due to the fact that is was exactly the same as every other lane within Malton. In the 1940's however locals took to graffiti-ing the street sign so that it read' Blandy Lane. This act was in honour of the Brandy drinking local homeless woman, Mrs Wu, who could be seen swigging "blandy" (as she called it) in the lane. Councilors briefly renamed the street Andy Lane after the then local mayor in order to stop what they deemed racist graffiti. Unfortunately their poor planning meant that the sign from then on read BlAndy Lane. In the 1960's the City gave in and officially renamed the lane Blandy Lane.

In more recent times, it fell under the protection of the Acourt Arms Alliance.
