Patstone's Report
This is the journal of Specialist First Arthur Patstone of the United States Army, 2nd Squad, 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 555th Infantry Regiment.
Spc. Patstone was airdropped into the Malton Quarantine Zone at roughly 2200 local time on the day of 4/14/07. A scout, he was separated from his squad on the way in, and never made contact with them again. After a few days in the Zone he began recording his experiences. However, he is known to by terse in these writings. There are several gaps, including the account of his first contact with the locals and his original position. Nevertheless, this account helps to shed some light on the Malton Incident.

Currently based in Foulkes Village. There aren’t many other survivors, but not many zeds either. Did some scouting into Ruddlebank today, as it supposedly has more of a survivor presence. Ran into a zed in the McLellan Arms though. Took a few swings at him with that axe I found and left a gash or two. But the zed wasn’t going down, so I fell back to Darnell Library in Foulkes.

Pulled hit and run attacks on that zed in McLellan, eventually taking it down. It’ll get back up, I know that, but I’m getting better at swinging this axe. Crossed over into Ruddlebank proper and set up base in Duport Grave Railway Station with a few others. Paticipated in the defense of the nearby Selway Building. Tossed out one body and took a swing at some zeds before falling back to the Station to request reinforcements.

After some time, we have managed to make Selway secure again. I’m continuing scouting missions through Ruddlebank, gathering supplies such as an extra flare gun and so on. Zombie activity seems to remain low.
Entry Date: 4/20/07
Selway has once again been compromised by a small horde coming in from the west. Other buildings west of Selway under attack. Engaged enemy and used flare gun to request reinforcements.
Entry Date: 4/22/07
Selway secure again. Recon has uncovered two zombies in the McLellan Arms. Engaging in hit and run attacks.
Entry Date: 4/24/07
It appears basing myself in Selway itself was a . . . mistake. Zombies broke in and killed me overnight, and I spent some time as one of them. I don’t recall attacking anyone, but it seemed like a very cloudy dream to me. Either way, someone injected me with a Mk. II needle and I’ve woken up. I’m staying in the Sly Place Police Department for now. Selway looks like it’s been secured since the zeds got me.

I’ve moved into Tompson Mall in Lockettside, which is currently suffering from an attack on its NW quarter. My plan is to secure Ruddlebank, but Tompson’s so close it has to be kept safe for Ruddlebank’s sake. I’m not trained like Harry was, but I managed to help heal a member of a local resistance group. I’ll stay here for the foreseeable future.
Entry Date: 4/26/07
Zed break-ins are becoming more frequent as the number of attacking zombies grows. However, the number of defenders in the NW quarter is also growing and we are beating them back. As of this moment there are estimated to be roughly sixty zeds outside with more nearby, and roughly fifty-seven survivors holed up in the NW quarter of Tompson.
Entry Date: 4/28/07
The assault on Tompson Mall continues. Roughly seventy zeds outside the NW quarter, with roughly sixty-three survivors opposing them. I got wounded earlier, but got patched up quickly enough. I’ve done my part in beating back the undead. There are members of several survivor groups here, and the diversity is amazing. The Lockettside Valkyries, the ATC, the Gingerbread Men, the DvB:SWEEPZ, the Bandit Queens, the Dutch Mafia, the Malton Rangers, the Blythville Gang, Josephine’s Generals, the Malton IC Chapter, the Soul Hunters, the Knights of Cydonia, the Legion of the Octopope, Jexian for Mayor, Lone Ranger, the ‘Sards, the Malton Fire Department, the London Submersives, the Chi Vai Hunters, the Caigar Mall Survivors, the Raccoon City Survivors, and the 319th S.O.W. all have at least one member taking up residence and defending Tompson. It really is a bizarre mix of people, and that’s not even counting all the independents like me. Whatever happens from here on, it’s going to be interesting.
Entry Date: 4/29/07
The battle continues. There are fewer survivors now, but also fewer zombies. And I think some of the survivors who are gone just moved to different parts of the mall to keep an eye on things. There are a few more groups with members here now, but I've lost track. Things are going well.
Entry Date: 5/1/07
Things are escalating. More than sixty survivors are facing roughly ninety zeds. People starting to talk about a full-blown siege starting up. The defenders remain calm. The fight will go on.
Aside from a note on the bottom of the 5/1/07 entry reading 'Victory!', the journal ends. Several pages carry bloodstains.
