The Malton Mental Hospital is a euphemism for the New Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, the Insane Asylum, The Loony Bin, The Asylum and the Old Arkham Sanitarium as well as many other less flattering names.

Ideology

The Arkham Sanitariums were on the cutting edge of psychotherapy, though the doctors were highly criticized for their unorthodox experimental methods. It wasn't until the fire and subsequent mass escape of inmates at the Old Arkham facility that anyone really knew what was going on. The untested drug treatments, the excessive shock therapy, the bizarre lobotomy techniques. The mad staff were creating their own walking dead! Some of these mindless killers were recruited into the service of the Mighty Cthulhu and his cult of followers. Their goals are unknown. It is only the chaos and madness which is left in their wake which is certain.

Current Status

The building which is now called St. Luke's Hospital was formerly one half of the infamous Arkham sanitarium. The upper floors are abandoned and off limits due to the fire damage that ravaged the internal walls during the mass escape. It was this tragic event which originally forced the asylum's closure. This is where Doctor Howie Hatecraft oversees the rebuilding of the Miskatonic University to its former greatness. He seeks to provide healing and revivification for all who need it.

The New Arkham facility is located on the grounds of St. Timothy's Hospital. It is controlled by the Others, those few inmates that failed to succumb to the treatments. These patients prove to be the worst and the deadliest if not quite simply, the most insane.

Shortly after the zombie outbreak, all of the patients at the New Arkham location were released and the building itself was utilized as a Necrotech field office. After a few years of wandering the streets aimlessly and alone, the patients have reunited. A strange call, which only they could hear, beckoning them to return to this place of their torment.

Former Status

The members of the MMH were offering their skills to the public as a free service. They would kill anyone you asked them to. The former inmates disappeared for a few months at which point those practices were altered to more adhere to the philosophies of Dr. Hatecraft. But now, the Others have returned...
