Suggestion description
Well, this morning i got up to find that a zombie had managed to worm its way into my building by parachuting, so of course as it needed to be killed to maintain a good status I killed it. However i thought to myself while shooting my shotgun that the text was a bit futile "You hit a zombie, doing 10 damage" It just seems as though it could be interesting if a little flavor was added. What I mean is that you could: "Blast (name) for X damage, hitting them in the centre of their chest/flak jacket, they sway for a second but move to their origninal position" or (if you miss) "You attempt to blast a zombie for X damage but it ducks as if it knew what it was doing". Also this could be done for zombies too: "You claw at (name) for X damage tearing out a small piece of their arm" or (if they miss) "You attempt to claw at (name) but trip over a piece of wood and miss them"
I think that things like this could be put on a random cycle so there doesn't have to be more than about 15, plus maybe players could add their own ideas for these messages meaning that even more people are adding things for the game. Of course they would have to be watched by one of the moderators too, to make sure no profanity or something rude might get through. However i think that there are many things which could be said when attacking that would add interest to any attack! However i think to maintain realism you don't want something that can't be feasibly healed by a FAK, but there are still many things which would make it very interesting!
Plus because UD is a mainly Text based game i think it would be easy to impliment however i'm not to sure!
Sorry if this idea has been said before i had a look through the peer rejected/reviewed and the ones that are avaible for voting but i didn't see one like this. If there is i appolgise but i think it's still a good idea.
Ok, for people who believe they have additional effects, surely if it says it has done X damage it has done X damage people must be able to see that if there is only X damage done then nothing else can be done with it!
Yet i see what you mean, that lets say "You shoot (name) in the leg doing X damage, they fall over" people may think that the one who was shot will drag that leg when walking. But if you change it so: "You shoot (name) in the leg doing X damage, they fall over but get up immediatly, you see they aren't handicapped" that would mean that people would see nothing is wrong with it.
However if you still feel that this is a problem then have a look at the Weather. As if people see the sky is clear they may think that in some buildings they can see further with their binoculars! Yet at last count it's 30/0 keep/kill votes! It's the same problem with additional effects but I suppose its less prominant than attacking.
In conclusion i say that with some words added at the end to say that (name) seems normal will mean that people won't think it has an additional effect. Plus for the person that was hit, it would just show up as "(name) shot/attacked you for X damage" showing that it is purely flavor.
Thank you for reading and please start to vote! :)

Keep Votes

- Keep - Flavor boosts are always nice. To that kill vote: that's one of the worst slippery slope arguments I've ever heard. --Magentaine 15:39, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - This is a MMORPG, my emphasis obviously on the Roleplaying Game part. If anyone has ever played a tabletop version of RPGs (such as, D&D), the GM's explanation of a scene is paramount. One thing you could put in your suggestion is to have the player name bolded, and the damage bolded as well. That way people don't have to read the whole thing to know what happened. --Ryiis 17:58, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Mmm... Flavor - YUMMY!!! So, how's about soem cookies? Targetzombie, no more for you though... --Bruce Torbaron 19:57, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Can't go wrong with some good flavour and this seems like an appropriate place to add some! - Werewolf32 20:25, 30 June 2007 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Kill - Keep Urban Dead simple. If we increase attack flavour, people will start to believe that they should have additional effects. This is the reason that Kevan hasn't included items/clothes that people might think would confer a beneficial status:
"If players of the game could reasonably 'expect' your suggested item to have some significant game effect when they put it on - such as an ammo belt or a parachute - it shouldn't be proposed as a zero-effect piece of decorative clothing".
By applying the same logic, the flavour in your suggestion shouldn't be added. If you want additional flavour, find/make a FireFox extension that does so. Or just use your imagination. armareum 13:48, 30 June 2007 (BST) - Kill - What Armareum said. I personally wouldn't like attacking flavor, as it would be too confusing for my simple brain. Imagination is always a solution to anyone's UD problems. :P Vault 16:32, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Kill - People expect too much out of this game, and we all have imaginations.-- dǝǝɥs oʇ ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 22:25, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Kill - it's better to embelish these things yourself, using your imagination, and possibly in description on the wiki or in-game, if you're big on it - it's too difficult to do this to a satisfactory level to bother. Do you pay attention to what you use for barricades? It makes less sense than that.--Crabappleslegalteam 03:24, 1 July 2007 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Dupe - An excellent suggestion, but you came too late. It's already on peer reviewed--Nikitis 19:32, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Dupe -And there even is another version already in peer review.-- Vista +1 23:13, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Dupe you say? - Right. I like the suggestion, could be a tad bit too descriptive though. Hard to find a medium :/ ... That other dupe is nice. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 03:00, 1 July 2007 (BST)
