Suggestion description
Back on the old suggestion system, I suggested a day/night cycle which was quite well accepted. It changed the way the game worked, tho. This suggestion is an expansion of that old suggestion, however it is entirely cosmetic.
As UD is a text-based game, I believe descriptions should be even more immersive than they are, for they are a crucial part of gameplay. I suggest, then, that the UD server keeps track of two variables: day/night and weather.
They are both cosmetic only, and change every 24h when the server resets IP counts. The day/night flag is toggled (meaning a Malton day has 48 hours), and the weather is randomized from a list.
Weather affects the environment descriptions when you are outside (for example, "it is day, and the sky is clear of clouds"), and certain weather conditions may alter also descriptions inside ("...the sound of heavy rain on the roof fills the ambient", or something like that).
And again, this is flavour only.
Also, there are three reasons for the 48h day:
- you only have to change the day flag at midnight, along with the IP counter reset.
- people who only log at the same time of the day (or the same day of the week) get to play on both day and night
- you can't use the timezone to locate Malton in the globe.

- Keep - This could be great! --DrBowman 11:10, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - A good idea, although this is another one of those things that could be done via extensions, rather than in the game code itself. . . . 13:59, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Mmmm... Flavor... - --Bruce Torbaron 16:43, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Its raining men! (or not but one can still hope, anything can happen in Malton...) --MarieThe Grove on Tour 18:07, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep -- The fact that something could be written into an extension doesn't mean that it isn't good enough to be coded into the game. --Firemanrik 18:45, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep -- Flavor is good. --Evan Cord 21:08, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep "You can't use the timezone to locate Malton in the globe" - I didn't like the 48hr day thing at fisrt, but you used my own logic against me! armareum 21:58, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep -- Nice flavour addition --♠ Che ♠-T GC X 22:08, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep would be cool but my only concern shouldnt the darkness be a greater advantage to zombies seeing how zombies are almost invisiable and deadly at Night --Johnny Reb 01:04, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep --Yeah sounds good to me! i think you could change it so you have a watch telling you what time it is when you logged in and a description of the weather, so: It's X:00 the clear sky means the moon glistens as its light shines down on the zombie infested city. Awesome! ----Acoustic Pie 13:43, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep --this is a great idea. it would really add to the whole image Malton (like, in my mind, ya know?). this would also open up future changes to Urban Dead that are based off of weather and time of day. this definetly needs to be implemented ----GunmanJag 14:05, 8 July 2007 (BST)
- Night and day...a good difference, especially from my weather suggestion months ago. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:45, 8 July 2007 (BST)
- Keep --This is the kinda suggestion i like to see, Adding depth and a role-playing element to the game rather than nerfing Flak jackets or creating Mini-guns, Top idea --User:Billy K 5:58, 9 July 2007 (BST )
- Keep --Two more days and it goes to PR. --Ylomaus 18:51, 11 July 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Hard to disagree... But, it should MEBBE have some MINOR effect, like -5% ranged accuracy and -5% likelyhood of infection in percipitation. (I donno) However, good idea anyways.BoboTalkClown 13:06, 12 July 2007 (BST)
