20070912 Booby Traps

Dread Pirate Pete 11:04, 12 September 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Skill

Suggestion scope
Survivors above lvl 10 (Zombie Hunters)

Suggestion description
OK my suggestion is that a new zombie hunter skill be introduced called booby traps. The basic idea is that zombies can ransack buildings (and they tend to go for NTs etc) so humans need a way to combat this. So with the skill the player will be able to spend a certain amount of AP (maybe between 5AP - 15AP) on building a one shot booby trap into a building, the effect of this would be to instantly kill the first zed to try to ransack the building. Also as many traps can be set at a building as are desired for example if there are 6 zombie hunters with this skill in a building and they all set a trap each there will be 6 traps and so the next 6 zombies attempting to ransack will all be killed, but once the traps are all gone the building can be ransacked as normal meaning that a mass attack will still be successful, there could even be a limit set on the number of traps that can be set in each building type so the system is not abused i.e. NT buildings could have a max of 10 traps while an auto repair shop could have a max of 3 etc. The traps would only apply to ransacking buildings and not to general attacks or any other zed activities i.e. generator destruction, human killing etc. This would address the problem of the amount of NT buildings being knocked out to some degree.

I recon it could work quite well as long as the system is properly balanced to make it usable but not overly abuseable.

  1. Kill For my reason for voting kill, read the suggestion. --MichaelRead 11:25, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill No auto-attacks. --Smokerjoker 13:01, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill Any auto-kill suggestion is very troubling, and I can't see how a trap could be constructed that only affects zombies. No chance that a survivor could blunder into one of these traps? For most zombies it only costs 1 AP to stand up, so a single low level zombie could 'use up' 20+ of these traps in a single go. --Shazzelim 14:31, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - No instant kills. - Whitehouse 14:35, 12 September 2007 (BST)
Kill - As a counter to ransack, the idea has a little promise. However, since its an auto attack, and a Insta-Kill, it will be shot down and requires major rethinking. No signature. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 18:35, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - Hehe, booby. Seriously though, this doesn't seem that useful since the zed can just stand up for 1AP imediately (since any zed with ransack will probably have ankle grab) and ransack the building again.Studoku 16:18, 12 September 2007 (BST)
    --SgtBop 15:04, 12 September 2007 (BST) Inconformity to rules. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 18:35, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - Something that kills a zombie in 5-15 AP, instead of the 40+ that it would normally take? No thanks. Besides, with this it would become literally impossible for zombies to take a building unless there were more zombies than survivors (which there never is), because every survivor would do this. --Reaper with no name TJ! 19:19, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - Yeah this pretty much isn't in line with what I understand Kevan would want to see. Thanks for trying. Might I suggest that you go ahead and run your ideas through the talk pages first before posting them. Ignore those folks who try to put you down about your suggestion. They make themselves feel better by knocking others down. --8 Bucks 21:24, 12 September 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - This is absolutely horrendous! Insta-Kills, Auto-attacks. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 11:24, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - Auto attack, insta-kill, just plain against the spirit of the game. Not to mention that it's totally counter-productive for a survivor to use 10AP to set up a booby trap that will only cost a veteran zombie 2AP (1 for the failed attempt at ransack, 1 to stand up ready to ransack again) to get around The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 11:37 12 September 2007 (BST)
  3. a blob of quivering SPAM approximately the size of saturn - The suggestions just keep more ridiculous and more game breaking every day, don't they? It's the forts, I tell you! 8. Spam - Basically, this suggestion makes survivors spend 5-15APs to kill a zombie, who will then stand up for only an AP? I think I'll spend my APs on FAKs, ammo, and syringes... plus, no insta-kills --Ryiis 14:53, 12 September 2007 (BST)

  10. SPAM Really good booby traps require a Degree in engineering I doubt a rabble of civilians have the knowledge to make a effective working booby trap. I mean traps and tricks are cool dont get me wrong I would love to be able to make a Shotgun booby trap yea know a loaded shotgun projected from the ceiling and actived when tension wire is snapped thusly firing a round of buckshot downward towards my Foe that would be cool but its beyond this game man sorry --Johnny Reb 16:55, 12 September 2007 (BST)

  20. Spam - It's an insta-kill. It's an auto attack. It fails the "multiply by a billion" test (imagine if all 8741 standing Zombie Hunters used this skill on as many different buildings as they could, all at once). --Steakfish 01:03, 13 September 2007 (BST)
