20071026 Self-Aware

Jon Pyre 15:04, 26 October 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Skill, Revised old suggestion

Suggestion scope
Zombies

Suggestion description
This is a revision of a previous suggestion of mine. Bonus points if you can find the original.

In that suggested I stated:

"The zombie is sentient and aware that they are an individual (think Bub the zombie in Day of the Dead), and thus more concious of the other zombies around them. This skill would allow zombies to see the player names of other zombies in the same square as them and would use Memories of Life as a prerequisite. To prevent massive spam they would access the list of zombie player names by opening up a new window by clicking on a link. This would not let them attack specific zombies out of a crowd or any nonsense like that, this is mainly just to satisfy the player's curiosity. This way players will be able to think "Gee, BatNinja59, FredBill and I sure did a good job of tearing down that safehouse and eating everyone inside" as opposed to "Well I sure triumphed with the help of some complete strangers that I can never build up a sense of community and gameplay with. I sure feel glad they weren't NPCs, not that I could tell.""

Now the revision is:

Zombies would be able to opt out from being including on the list of zombie names on their profile. Opting out would not require a skill. Zombies could also choose whether to opt out entirely, or to have their name appear but not as a profile link, or to only appear with either way to group members. This is not a crossover skill and becomes inactive when living.

This lets zombies choose to be mindless killing machines, slightly sentientish killing machines, recognizable to other zombies, or completely anonymous even from their own side.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Ancient suggestion, by Nerzuggh, Yshothoth, and Chyhrghzg, I call thee from the dark archive of the suggestions page! --Jon Pyre 15:05, 26 October 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - What was practically unique within the genre would suddenly be present for everyone. Just like the suggestion for a horde leader skill, "You see 4 Zombies and 23 Horde Leaders" - breaks the theme when taken far enough. --Pgunn 15:41, 26 October 2007 (BST)
  2. Why not simply click the "A zombie" links when they kill someone or rip down the cades? Or did I miss something completely, and that is not possible at all? - Whitehouse 15:43, 26 October 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill Nope. Not buying this one at all.--SeventythreeTalk 15:45, 26 October 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Even with the opt out this is like shoving a lead pipe up the arse of zombie anonymity. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 15:22, 26 October 2007 (BST)
    • Re Hence several ways of opting out for zombies that don't like lead pipes in their anonymity's rectum. A zombie can choose to not appear to other zombies, to appear but not provide a profile link, or appear only to group members w/ or without a profile link. The default setting would be to opt out of everything, so players would have to willingly choose to give their name to other zeds. I don't see how that harms zombie anonymity more than listing your name and profile on a forum, or a wiki page, Gorbonzo. --Jon Pyre 15:27, 26 October 2007 (BST)
As i said, even with an opt out option, many zombies would fail to do this, and any human player that jumps out the window can buy the skill and harvest all the zombie profiles from people who either have forgotten to switch it off or havent had time to yet and post those profiles on their lovely little forums with little lists of who is and who isnt a brain rotter, who is and who isnt a newbie, and all sorts of other details that make it easier for humans to shoot up individual zombies who will take the most hurt. once gain, you have made a suggestion that works well in theory assuming 100% in game activity, but it fails the metagame test so completely you may as well not have it. And your default isnt set in the suggestion, so its irrelevant, unless you would care to add that in as an alteration in which case i will take this down as an edit mid vote. And even with the default set to no, so few zombies would reveal their profiles that the skill would be essentially worthless, just another waste of all our time and effort. Come up with something better, or better yet, make one suggestion a month instead of flooding the suggestions page with your garbage day after day after day after day. Oh, and also, the wording of your suggestion strobgly implies (As in all but screams) that zombies have the option to opt out, they dont start opted out and have the choice to opt in. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 15:33, 26 October 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - It's not clear enough what this suggestion... ummm... suggests. Redo please -- boxytalk • 15:37 26 October 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam - I can already find out who a zombie is, can't I, if I took their profile either when they were human, or when they were DNA extracted? And, if they don't want me to do that, they Brain Rot - which means I have a fairly good idea whose side they're on. So, what's the point of this skill, then, except to provide an alternative method of doing all that, but one that doesn't provide gameplay benefits such as XP gathering? Well, without stuff like this, my sandwiches might remain empty. --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 15:50, 26 October 2007 (BST)
    • Re I think there's a misunderstanding. This is for zombies to know who other zombies are, without having to be human to do so. --Jon Pyre 16:04, 26 October 2007 (BST)
  4. Spam - As Funt --Ryiis 15:58, 26 October 2007 (BST)
