20071212 Simple old 5-shot Bolt Rifle
Sec 04:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion type
Weapon within bounds of reason and maintaining the balance of the game.
Suggestion scope
This suggestion would affect combat for all players.
Suggestion description
We have a revolver (pistol) and a double barreled shotgun (shotgun). A weapon equally easy to come by is a bolt rifle. This weapon would provide a medium powered firearm to complement the already existing pistol and shotgun. Take a look at where the Rifle fits in - a perfect medium to two extremes of firearms. Feel Free to add suggestions if you approve.
Revolver: 5 Damage, 6 shots (Potential 30HP Damage for 7AP including loading) ratio 30HP/7AP. For 48 AP (exiting safehouse, shooting & reloading, re-entering) a player inflict a maximum of 205 Damage
Bolt Rifle: 6 or 7 Damage, 5 shots (Potential 30-35 Damage for 6AP including loading) ratio 30HP or 35HP/6APFor 48 AP (exiting safehouse, shooting & reloading, re-entering) a player can inflict max. 240 or 280 Damage
Shotgun: 10 Damage, 2 shots (potential 20HP Damage for 3HP including loading) ratio 20HP/3APFor 48 AP (exiting safehouse, shooting & reloading, re-entering) a player can inflict max. 320 Damage
So as you can see these values for the rifle are not unreasonable compared to existing weaponry.
The Rifle is not some kind of survivor super weapon (e.g. ABRAMS TANK or ELEPHANT or ANTI-ZOMBIE NUKE). This is just a third type of weapon available for survivor use. It's not 'better' than the pistol or shotgun - it's just different.
Range values (within immediate block) should not change. Sniper Rifles, Machine Guns and the like are, frankly, stupid. This weapon is just here for an extra touch of realism without spoiling the game.
Loading the five-round magazine takes 1 AP
Firing a bullet from the Bolt Rifle takes 1 AP
The 5-round magazine (Rifle Clip) must then be replaced with another to keep firing.
Accuracy Values would be the same as pistol and shotgun values:
5% for untrained characters
30% with Basic Firearms training
50% with Rifle Training
65% with Advanced Rifle Training
(Bolt) Rifles and Rifle Clips could be found in:
Police Stations, Shopping Mall Gun Stores, Fort Armouries
I suggest that their search odds should be between that of a pistol and a shotgun. Not hard to find; but not easy either.
Feel Free to add suggestions if you approve of the idea. If you don't think the rifle should be introduced, give me a good reason why, and I'll see what I can do; I welcome your opinion and I'll see what I can do to ammend the proposal.

- Kill - I'm open to a workable rifle suggestion, despite UD's history of shooting down such issues, but this just doesn't fit the picture. –Ariedartin Talk 09:51, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

- Spam - we don't need any new guns. Have you looked at the peer reviewed new weapon suggestions? None of those have been implemented. This fact should be telling you something. (Also, not as much fun as the last guy, who suggested a man-portable gun turret that fired grenades, tank-bustas, zambah-lazers and testicle-roasters, with unlimited ammo and a direct line to A-10 air support, 24-7. Whee, doggee!) --Funt Solo QT 09:55, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

- Spam - Ive said it before, and ill say it again. Adding a new firearm to the game results in one of two things happening: A net survivor buff, or a newbie survivor nerf. How? It all comes down to find rates. If you simply put a new weapon and ammunition on top of the existing find rates, you increase survivor power because they can find weapons and ammunition more easily, which makes them overall more powerful as they dont need to search as much to find ammunition and weaponry, especially if they have all the gun skills, which will happen sooner, rather than later. On the other hand, if you reduce the find rates for everything else gunlike, you nerf newbies who will have a harder time finding weapons and ammunition that meet their specific skill set. Also, overall, you nerf those weapons pretty hard too for everyone, since ammunition is harder to find. There is no way to impliment any new firearm without doing either of the previous, and cockup the pretty good balance for guns in the game. It simply cannot be done. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! .
