Questions

Do these stack? If I write a suburb full of location descriptions will I get 1 point for every block I write, PLUS 10 points for the whole suburb? Even if this is the case, I think there needs to be more bonus for writing an entire suburb up, more than 10 points. Either way, I guess i'll join. --

Yeah, it stacks - 140pts for a full suburb (240 if all locations reference other locations). When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 03:40, 2 May 2010 (BST)
Kewl. -- 04:12, 2 May 2010 (BST)

I assume all of the following:

A suburb counts as a single location, as do all of it's blocks, for ~101 pages per editor.

Large buildings which span multiple suburbs can be edited by the editor for both. Once you write something, it's been written, and even if the other person removes it, what you wrote is still what is counted.
If you have 240 points, you can claim a second suburb.
And if you have 480 points you can claim a third.
And so on, until none remain.

The key is how many words you write, not how many words the word count increases by; If you write 160 words but remove an obsolete 30, it's still valid.

Descriptions only count if added during the contest.

If you already wrote something for a building, you will get full credit if you ADD 150+ words to it.
If you've already tied in five locations, you must tie in at least one more location to receive credit.

You can tie in a description to one written before the contest and still receive tie-in credit.

You cannot tie in a building to one outside of your suburb, even if it already mentions your building.

The contest has NOT yet begun --VVV RPMBG 06:32, 2 May 2010 (BST)un.

We will be listing what we add somewhere.

I can help make the prizes.

There will be one for first place, one for second/third, and one for trying (at least one point).

I must be wrong somewhere. But where?--VVV RPMBG 04:58, 2 May 2010 (BST)

...Yes. I knew someone would do the thinking for me. For buildings spanning multiple suburbs, I'm not entirely sure, but I'd go with the maxim that anything already written shouldn't be replaced for this contest, as this is mostly meant to encourage adding to empty or nearly-empty locations. Though if it's old fluff that doesn't seem overly beloved, go for it. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 05:06, 2 May 2010 (BST)
Any timeline on when this will begin? ~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 05:36, 2 May 2010 (BST)
Definitely before next weekend. More than likely this Monday though. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 05:37, 2 May 2010 (BST)
A few more assumptions:
To get the cross-reference points, a location needs to be in a chain. To be classified as a chain, it must contain at least five chain links. A location classifies as a link in a chain if:
It is referenced to on a different link.
It references to a different link.
A location does not need to link to every other link, nor does every other link need reference it.
You can combine all 100 pages into a single location.
The suburb page cannot be a link.

Too many rules/regulations will turn people away! -- 06:20, 2 May 2010 (BST)
(I suppose this kinda proves DDR's point, but) Is the suburb part mandatory for this contest, or just recomended? Say I wanted to clear out a type of building out of the stubs-list, like Fire Stations. Would it be okay under contest rules to update all those buildings, regardless of their suburb? ~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 06:22, 2 May 2010 (BST)
I feel that it's very important for it to be mandatory. That way you can see what a great suburb you've made, and compare it against those of others. Really, where's your sense of pride in your fatherland? I know I'd never edit outside of Wyke, why would you want to dilute your effect? --VVV RPMBG 06:32, 2 May 2010 (BST)
These are more for fairly administering points than for planning how you'll get them. --VVV RPMBG 06:32, 2 May 2010 (BST)
If you want to to do one type of building, list that as your 'suburb' and treat it as one for the rules of the contest. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 06:36, 2 May 2010 (BST)
But if they choose fire stations, for example, Haim Walk Fire Station is still mine, right? I don't want those lousy internationalists touching my precious Wyke Hills. --VVV RPMBG 06:43, 2 May 2010 (BST)
First come, first served. Multiple points can be awarded if you both collaborate, but no removing others' entries. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 06:54, 2 May 2010 (BST)
Do you score a point for each picture you add to a location, or only the first?--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 15:55, 10 May 2010 (BST)
I'd say each. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 15:58, 10 May 2010 (BST)
I though so too, but then realised 1) it's far easier to add a stack of pics than actually think and write stuff, and 2) there'll be a flood of uncategorised pics to wade through when we're done.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 17:16, 10 May 2010 (BST)
Yeah, fuck that. some guy's winning cause he uploaded 30 pictures and just threw them onto pages. That's not what this is about. The point for pictures should only count if they are alongside the 150 work description imo -- 22:17, 10 May 2010 (BST)
Yeah, what DDR said. Image + 150 words = 2pts, image alone = 0pts. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 08:10, 12 May 2010 (BST)
Thanks. I really like that. I dont mean to be a pain (again) :( But RHO has been putting the same one/two images onto all PD's... I understand that they are all PD's, and I like he's doing it, but maybe he shouldn't get points for it, or a cap of the amount of times you can re-use an image for points? Just a suggestion, the biggest step was negating the spamming if images and now that's done i'm happy -- 08:14, 12 May 2010 (BST)
In all honesty, multiple pages sharing an image is better than having a bunch of stubs. It's a bit shitty that someone's bum-rushing this for more points, but if it reduces the number of stubs then it's better than nothing. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 08:17, 12 May 2010 (BST)
I'm fine with that. Now to find a nice pair of boobies and use it for more points!!! ;D -- 08:20, 12 May 2010 (BST)
I'd rather write up a suburb I can be proud of (and that people want to read about and explore and use as their manor/patch/turf/zombie nest, with the write-ups adding to the in-game flavour) than go for "Never mind the quality, feel the width." We'll probably all get moar kewl templates so 'winning' isn't really the point.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 16:45, 12 May 2010 (BST)
I know, but the points should at least reflect who's trying to make a difference and not just spamming images. It is why this comp was created, to spur the former, and that's why people joined. -- 01:18, 13 May 2010 (BST)
To be honest, it's not that I'm trying to game the contest, it's just is the way I'm used to working and would have eventually done once I finished with the demerging (creating danger reports and demerging doesn't exactly foster creativity).
Since it seems to be somewhat of an issue, I'll stop adding point for reformatting/barricade notices and go back and write up something for (at least some of) those police departments.
Sorry! ~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 01:31, 13 May 2010 (BST)

The Scores on the Doors

Hi Misanthropy, please allow me a bit of time to tot up my score. It's getting late... needsleep must go-now...--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 20:14, 16 May 2010 (BST)

Don't worry, me and Red have essentially resigned, since all our work has been made for nothing in a single, drastic change. It's not that it was a bad change, but it should have been put in BEFORE the game began, so that we could have some idea as to how to get points that will actually count for anything by the end. --VVV RPMBG 21:20, 16 May 2010 (BST)
All it takes is adding some text to any images and there we go, points galore. Also I didn't think this through as a serious gaming contest, just as fun. :( When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 21:45, 16 May 2010 (BST)
It was a writing contest, so there were some clues... "Write moar stuff! ... get writing descriptions..." etc etc. And yes, fun comes first. The other key thing is, is the wiki better than it was before? Answer: yes.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 04:05, 17 May 2010 (BST)
Okay, I did my sums: 54 location descriptions (including 4 in Lamport Hills, as I saw Ross's subcontest first; 82 images to go with them (only one used twice, because it featured two neighbouring buildings, which tied in neatly with the two locations); and 37 bonus points for chains of 5 and 10 locations, including the four in Lamport that added on to an existing one. 54 + 82 + 37 = 173. And now I will endeavour to have a life again, sort of.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 14:52, 17 May 2010 (BST)

In the spirit of being a lazy cop-out bastard, I hereby declare the winner to be... Malton! Also probably Mallrat. Him too. Until I have the chance to make a real winner template, this should do the trick for now. When I fall, I'll weep for happiness 06:15, 18 May 2010 (BST)
