Description
The Perryn Building, or the Perryn Veterans Memorial Building, is a home for war veterans located in the suburb of Dulston. The building was named after Brigadier-General Roger van Perryn-Moore (1747-1809), who served with the Black Watch and grew to prominence during the West Indies campaign in 1795. Built in 1949 the Perryn Veterans Memorial Building was "home" to 175 aging war veterans. The home served as a place where the opportunity existed for residents to participate in activities for socializing and staying active such as music therapy, gardening, baking, playing cards, celebrations, shopping trips, Legion visitations and so on.
A bronze cenotaph commemorating those who fought and died in World War I and World War II sits in the Veterans' Memorial Gardens adjacent to the building, a poignant reminder of dedication and service to their country. Prior to the "Malton Incident" the federally appointed members of the Veterans Affairs Committee determined who was eligible for admission to the centre. The building has three bedroom units of 50 beds each while a third unit with 25 beds would have been assigned to veterans diagnosed with any of a wide range of mental problems. All 25 of these beds were equipped with straps to secure patients who suffered from irreversible dementias and were prone to wandering. These days the Perryn Veterans Memorial Building lies deserted with its halls littered with overturned walkers and blood-splattered wheelchairs.
On a historical side note, Fort Perryn was also named after Brigadier-General Perryn-Moore.
Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher, who once frequented the old building one his way westwards towards Rhodenbank has begun to steer clear after word began to spread that a group of survivors laying claim to the building had gone mad and were killing any survivors who attempted to seek shelter here. When asked to comment on the matter Caleb replied, "It's a sad day when survivors become consumed with bloodlust and turn on their own brothers and sisters. The Dulston Alliance has been informed of their deplorable activities and we can only hope that swift executions will put an end to this madness...".
Barricade Policy
This building must never be more than Very Strongly (VS+2) barricaded. This barricade level has been set forth in the Dulston Optimal Defense Diagram, a strategic barricade policy that is enforced by all member groups of the Dulston Alliance. This building's purpose is to serve as an access point for all survivors and a safehouse for inexperienced survivors who do not possess the Free Running skill. Visitors are requested to never barricade beyond Very Strongly unless the building is currently under siege from 5 or more zombies. Note that any survivors associated with the Dulston Alliance have the right to lower the barricades back to Very Strongly if they discover them raised higher without just cause.
Current Events
August 5th, 2007 - Word has it that Maris Viridis no longer exists. Rather the group has reformed as Divum Viridis in a new suburb on the west side of Malton. The Dulston Alliance appeared to be satisfied with this turn of events, as the coalition of groups works to drive other killers from their suburbs. As such, the Perryn Building is officially open to new residents who may live here without fear. Well, without fear of murderers, but not zombies. Not that there are that many zombies around these days.
July 16th, 2007 - The Perryn Building stands vacant. Maris Viridis have departed from Dulston. Whether their departure was a result of its war with the Dulston Alliance, or of its own volition is unknown. Regardless, this group of wanted killers is gone.
June 4th, 2007 - The Perryn Building remains secure under the watchful eyes of members of Maris Viridis. The building, however still unsafe for survivors wishing to spend the night, is no longer a focal point of the growing tension between Maris Viridis and the Dulston Alliance coalition. The major battles have yet to be fought, however, and only time will determine the fate of the Perryn Building.
May 26th, 2007 - Maris Viridis has temporarily cleared out the Perryn Building of survivors. The group continues to warn people against using the building as a safehouse. Survivors attempting to zerg inside the building, or even stay overnight, will be shot on sight by Maris Viridis members.
May 12th, 2007 - Maris Viridis, the resistance group that has made the Perryn Building their home until recently, has lost all control of their safehouse--the building, now barricaded at 'loosely' (with anti-Maris Viridis survivors being blamed), has lost all sanctity as a potential safehouse for wandering survivors.
Survivors are strongly cautioned against even approaching the building. It has become a travel hazard for all that come near it; the remnants of Maris Viridis (those that aren't dead or waiting to be revived) are actively killing and disposing of random survivors in and around the Perryn Building. It is believed that Maris Viridis members are now merely a group of murderers bent on exacting revenge on all of Dulston for supposedly having betrayed them.
May 7th, 2007 - Until recently, the PKK group--now identified as "Maris Viridis"--has gone relatively unrecognized, hiding in the Perryn Building; it has now attracted the attention of the most notorious murderer group in all of Dulston, "Red Rum". Maris Viridis' leader has cautioned Maris Viridis members to be on high alert; many MV members have already abandoned the building in hopes that the PK threat will blow over.
Any survivors wishing to stay overnight, or even for a short period of time, are strongly cautioned against using the Perry Building as a refuge--as it has become a battleground between Red Rum's over-aggressive mercenaries and the weakened defenders of the Perryn Building.
- Update: Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher, was interested to learn of Red Rum's interest in this building, and Maris Viridis specifically. He was quick to point out that the leadership of Red Rum had attested to the fact that their group was not in any way involved with Dulston at this time, as they had departed Northeast Malton after the Rolt Heights War ended. It is altogether possible that those members of Red Rum attacking Maris Viridis are in fact lone elements.
April 28th, 2007 - The Perryn Building has now become home to an overly defensive PKK group. With their motto of "shoot first and ask questions after dumping your pitiful body outside", survivors are STRONGLY cautioned against using this building as a safehouse.
February 15th, 2007 - The Shamblin' Crooners stopped by the Perryn Building in their new SHAMBLIN' CROONERS APOCALYPSE tour. While reports are still unclear as to whether the zombies managed to actually break inside, what is clear is that this became the impromptu end to the Shamblin' Crooners tour, as a few days later the Mall Tour '07 rolled into Dulston. Survivors speculate that the zombies were drawn away to join the larger horde.
