20070516 NecroNet Download

R33F3RM4N 12:26, 16 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Functional improvement to Necronet Access.

Suggestion scope
Survivors with the skill Necronet Access.

Suggestion description
At present the 'Necronet Access' button merely delivers a snapshot of successfully DNA-scanned zombies within range that is of debatable use. The suggestion is that an additional button becomes available immediately after the 'Access NecroNet' button has been used. The button is labelled 'Download Data' and costs 4 APs to use. When pressed the area DNA-scan snapshot is removed and the profile ID links of all DNA-scanned zombies within range are listed on screen along with the GPS coordinates of each viz:

Midevi 22,25

MidevisEvilTwin 23,24

Downloading data does not grant XP. A total of 5 APs are required to facilitate download (1 for NecroNet access and then 4 for download itself) and the user must have a DNA Extractor to receive the download. The GPS data will allow a survivor with a GPS Unit to home in on a zombie without resorting to metagaming maps. All DNA Extracting functionality remains unchanged i.e. if a zombie moves it will no longer be visible to NecroNet until another successful extraction.

The profile and GPS data is already in the NecroNet database (and on the game server somewhere) thanks to survivors using DNA Extractors. This additional functionality provides access to the data on those scanned zombies. The profiles can then be added to the NecroNet user's contact list. This functionality will improve the relative value of the NecroNet Access skill (helps in identification of zombies for revivification or headshotting) and also make DNA Extractor use a slightly more worthwhile contribution to the overall survivor effort. It might even provide a use for the GPS Unit.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep, with changes - I like the concept, so my "keep" is more a vote of confidence/moral support than an actual keep. I recognise Boxy's concerns, but I watch a lot of "nature" shows where they track wild animals and it just seems like something that should be done with zombies. I posted some ideas to improve this (and make it a little less broken) on the discussion page. --Uncle Bill 02:20, 17 May 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Imagine a griefer following you around, killing your survivor wherever he finds it. Then imagine him pressing this new button and finding out exactly where you have gone to get a revive. *Boom* - headshot bonus! -- boxy T L ZS Nuts2U DA 12:43, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - As Boxy. --Saluton 15:22, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - Revives way to efficient, allows easier killing of zombie anonymity.--karek 20:33, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - The basis is intriguing, but boxy makes a good point. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 20:37, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill Not because of potential griefer abuse (I think griefers and zergs real damage to the play lies in the amount of otherwise fine sugestions they get killed merely by potentially existing...), but because profile ID links is a lot of information for only 4 AP. - BzAli 21:34, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - As everyone else said. Zombie anonimity would suffer a lot from this. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 21:59, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - I really like this idea but, as BzAli said, I'm didn't vote Kill because of griefers but because of the AP cost. If it were raised to just 1 more AP, I would change my vote to Keep. --Sonofagun18 05:59, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - I feel that this suggestion just has too many holes in it for it to be really integrated. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 10:50, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - as above *sigh* --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 11:11, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  10. Above. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 12:38, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill - Have to agree with the above reasoning. --Rgon 19:10, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill -as Duke Garland but with extra *sigh*--Vista +1 18:12, 18 May 2007 (BST)
