History

M.E.R.C.Y., the Malton Education and Recreation Center for Youth, had its beginnings in the 1950’s, when several influential women of the St. John’s congregation in Vinetown, believing that children who roamed the streets should have a positive alternative, organized the beginnings of the program. Working in conjunction with the Church, area schools and other educational institutions, the Center was originally based out of St. John's Cathedral. It grew over the years, and using a model similar to other youth organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, the Center served children from ages 6 through 18 and their families through membership and community outreach in a variety of programs. While not directly affiliated with the Religious Order of the Sisters of Mercy, M.E.R.C.Y. also chose the 'Mercy Shield' as its emblem for similar reasons. At its height, the Center had branches in nearly every suburb, and had a team of professional staff and volunteers numbering in the hundreds.

Following the chaos of the Malton outbreak and subsequent quarantine, the organization collapsed and was all but forgotten…except, apparently, by one.

“Who I was and what I did before is of no consequence…a memory. We must live in the terrible reality of the present. There is need…here…and now. Too much damage has been done to the city and citizens of Malton. Too many families have been torn apart in the wake of this disaster. Too many children are alone and lost. If there is to be a future, we must band together…rebuild our neighborhoods…restore our families…bring every child home. This is now the call of M.E.R.C.Y.” - Sister Rita

Motto

"I am only one...but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."

Location

M.E.R.C.Y. is currently located in the suburb of Vinetown in SE Malton. The organization does not have an official "headquarters", but it has established a presence in the northern part of the suburb defending Gelasius General Hospital (Vinetown), Goodford Road Police Department and the group's "historical and spiritual center" of St. John's Cathedral. While their home is Vinetown, the group regularly crosses borders and provides support and assistance to pro-survivor efforts in The Four Corners region. When local demands on staff and supplies permit, M.E.R.C.Y. members have been know to contribute to other pro-survivor efforts in all of Vinetown's 8 surrounding suburbs (Edgecombe, Pegton, Dentonside, Crowbank, Houldenbank, Gulsonside, Osmondville and Penny Heights).

Temp Update October 2008: For the duration of the MOB's visit to The Four Corners Region, M.E.R.C.Y. will run an update on survivor tactics & objectives in the area. Survivors can consult the page to find where their action will be most helpful to humans in the area. See Talk:M.E.R.C.Y.

Red Mage.gif Roleplaying Notice
Notice: This User or Group enjoys the RPG aspect of MMORPGs, the category of games that Urban Dead falls into. As such, there is probably quite a bit of roleplaying and/or creative writing on this page and in said User/Group's in-game actions. In other words, if you think the difference between IC and OOC is "One has an 'I' and the other has two 'O's," buzz off.
