Official Fortress News

Notes from the Editor

Written by Nazdreg, April 30 2009:

Wow, where should I start? First of all, despite beign Chief Editor of The Fortress News, this is the first article I have actually written. Anyway, it can't be all the bad.

In a few days, it will make a year since I joined the Fortress. Talk about a rollercoaster ride. I have served four different commanders, and came quite close to beign one myself. But thats another story. Whats funny is that the first big thing I am in charge turns out to be something I never even considered doing. But you know what? I FREAKIN LIKE IT! Its fun, but its alot of work. First day was nothing but cleanup. Im a bit of tidy freak. I had to archive many old topic, some daitng back to early 2008. It was worth the effort, yet my workis far from over. The Fortress News is undergoing many changes. Some will take time.

The updates have only just begun. Stay tuned for more!

Operation: Snakes In A Fort

Date: FEB 19 2009 – MAR 08 2009: Written by guest Anaconda TFN reporter: ieatflesh01

After our little vacation, it was time that Anaconda got back to work! We received word that our allies in the southeast were working hard to try to retake Fort Perryn, and requested our help. With little to no fanfare, we all headed down to help out. Upon arrival, our first priority was to establish a safehouse. This was done by RTS. Involved in the establishment were: Samuel L Jackson, Coup, Fleshy, Paul, Tiago, and Lucy. Jason Valer stopped by, but it was just to get an autograph from the famous Anacondas.

With our safehouse established, it was time for the real work to begin. Our established goal was to revive 100 people during this op. Corpus started us out with the 1st revive on Feb 20 2009. This was shaping up to be a very productive operation.

After we had taken the safehouse, the zed presence there noticed. From that point on, it was a battle to keep our cades at EHB. But, the Condas are ever vigilant and our cades remained in place. As the operation wore on, it was plain to see that the zeds were not going to go quietly into the night. They were going to fight us with everything they had. This in turn made the whole thing that much more fun.

We conducted another RTS. We took 2 buildings, killed 2 zeds, and caded both buildings to VSB. A successful RT to be sure. Involved were the following: Lucy, Corpus, Paul, Coup, and Fleshy (in spirit). During the op, Fleshy and Lucy decided to try and get the Twin Dragon ABA. This was accomplished in short order. It wasn’t 10 minutes before the ABA was completed. Congratulations to both!

More good news came to the Anacondas in the form of a new recruit. We found out that Beatlepuss was to be in the newest member of the team. We all welcomed him appropriately and eagerly awaited his arrival.

After all of the work that we had done to keep the zeds outside of the fort busy, it had paid off. News came that the Malton Rangers had assisted MUM in the successful reclamation of the fort. MUM asked the Anacondas to help in the retaking of the buildings to the south of the Fort. With that in mind, CO Lucy decided it was time for another RTS. We eagerly awaited the chance to kill more zeds and take more buildings from them.

The RT was as always very successful. Banton Cinema was retaken. Corpus dropped the genny, Lucy fueled and repaired the building (50AP to repair), Corpus caded to VHB and killed the genny. Beats, eager to join in the fun, killed 2 zeds inside Anne General Hospital, but was unable to finish the 3rd. A most excellent RTS. After the RTS was over, Spacepirat92 and Fleshy went to Anne General. They finished the zed, dumped the body, and caded the hospital to EHB.

With all of the work that the Anacondas did, in the end it was to no avail. The fort, though retaken, once again fell to the zombie hoards. However, by March 6th, we had updated Pennville from RED to GREEN. Though we did not make our 100 revive goal, we did revive 44 people. That equals 440APs worth of revives. Enough to keep a single survivor asleep for nearly 9 days straight. Once again, the Anacondas had made a difference in the burb. CO Lucy teased us with the name of our next op. Operation: Friday The 13th.

With the operation winding down, we all took turns heading to Blesley Mall to restock, and returning back to the safehouse. CO Lucy teased us even more with further information on the next op. It seemed that Operation: Friday The 13th was to be a competitive op. We could not wait for the next operation to begin.

We received our marching orders from the CO on March 29. We were to head up to Shackleville and restock for the next operation. The excitement was almost tangible, with Doctorgun making this statement, “Oh I love being a Conda. Restocking and moving to safehouse”.

Operation: Leisure Rules!

Date: FEB 01 2009 - FEB 19 2009: Written by guest Anaconda TFN reporter: ieatflesh01 on March 6th 2009

As Anaconda were recovering from all the effort that we put forth in Operation: Red Mist, other events were taking place that would change the face of the Anaconda leadership. Sadly, Commander Charlie Mon stepped down. Acting CO Lucy Daniels decided that the team needed a vacation. She told us to wrap up what we were doing, stock up and be prepared to move out.

Lucy mapped out a nice little trip around Southeast Malton. This was supposed to be a leisurely vacation, one that would let us get a little R and R. But the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

We headed to Osmondville first, to “Revive, repair, cade, kill, heal, and restock as appropriate”. We were given free rein to use our AP as we saw fit. It was invigorating not to have to watch what we did, but still as our training was deeply engrained, few of us, if any, allowed ourselves to go crazy.

As always, we secured our safehouse and got straight to work. As we were fighting for our lives with the zeds (what a vacation), another battle was raging in RL. The Steelers VS the Cardinals for the title of SuperBowl Champion. Much to the sorrow of the Cardinals fans, the Steelers took the Championship .

Sometimes when on vacation, we forget ourselves. Such was the case with poor Mr. Tiago Ferriera. He went to a rave party at a cemetery (not inviting any of his team mates either), and ended up sticking his needle into some random zed that he thought was a girl, but ended up being “a dude named Mike”. That’ll teach you to go to parties without backup Tiago.

After finishing up in Osmondville, we headed to Pennville to pick up some booze with the aim to possibly drink it in Fort Perryn. We started out securing the Druce Row School, and then began to spread out to the surrounding buildings and rebuild. We once again had our work cut out for us as there ended up being 17 zeds inside Voizey Police Department. During the op, once again Coup fell to a zombie (this was turning into a habit). We once again revived him and he went back to work, a little worse for wear, but determined. The Condas became bogged down in an ever-changing battle with the zeds of Pennville. They were a very determined lot, killing people, ruining buildings, but never had they met a more determined bunch of survivors than Anaconda. We were reviving, repairing, and recading as fast as we possibly could. The work was hard, the hours long, but we were making progress.

As we were out and about fixing and cading, our safehouse fell. Among the dead were D3c0y, Doctorgun, Aeris Windwalker, and Corpus Currit. The rest of the Anacondas rallied to their aid, and they were all alive and well within a few hours. If the zeds had thought they would break our resolve with that action, they had totally miscalculated. We once again busted butt, got the safe house and surrounding areas back up and functional. It was at this point that Lucy directed us to head to church, St. Columbanus’s Church to be exact. This was to act as a rest stop on our way over to visit F2 and play some poker with Fortress 2 CO Jason Valer, Jensonson, and Shrimper. It was a trip that all were looking forward to.

We all sat down to eat a wonderful mean in F2. Nazdreg had cooked zombie steaks, brain soup, and fried rat for dinner. As Malton fare goes, it wasn’t half bad. We then got down to the real business at hand. Strip poker. It was not a very good night for the following people, though a lot of people were saying that it was soooooo amazing how Corpus kept “finding” aces. Lucy lost her bandana, jacket, both trainers, and one sock, Fleshy was getting fleshier by the minute and even though he was “finding” those aces, Corpus was lucky to still have his pants left. All-in-all, a good time was had by everyone.

After our fun at F2, we took a walk up to Joachim Mall. It seemed like every time you turned around, there was a break-in there. We continued to fight against the zeds. Killing, cading, healing, reviving, everything that we could do to put the odds in the survivors’ corner. Day after day, we kept the zed hoard of 17+ at bay. By Valentine’s Day, there were 24 zeds outside the NW corner of the mall, and we were put to the test to keep it caded. Suddenly there was another break-in at the mall. Who would show up to help, but the Head himself. Jensonson showed everyone that he still maintains his skills and can do even the lowliest of chores, barricading a mall. It was a very motivating sight to see.

On the 15th of February, Council elected Lucy to become Anaconda’s next Commander. She then passed the word that we needed to start gearing up for the next operation. As the anticipation built for the next operation, we all began to stock up on our favorite implements of destruction/protection.

Finally, CO Lucy announced the completion of our “vacation” and told us the name of our new operation. It was to be called, “Operation: Snakes in a Fort”. We couldn’t wait.

Operation: Outer limits

Written by Puppiemaster

We had our orders to head out to the North West corner of Malton, to the furthest point on the map, Dulston. One look at the suburbs and all you could see was RED. Was our Commander Crazy? I know she needs to stamp her mark on the BattleHawks, but suicide is another thing entirely.

The journey North was a long one, having been on SL for some well deserved R & R the previous 2 weeks. I managed to make it all the way to the improvised Safe house in Dulston (Wray Towers [86,10]), without needing to kill any Zombies encountered on the way.

Having arrived 2 days late for the operation, the Battlehawks were already in full swing. Kathryn, our Commander, had already begun communicating with our Allies the ACC. Foxhound and the USSR and had managed to retake the Mall.

With the Mall taken back the team started RTS'ng every night, taking back various buildings in the suburb, the area war looked like it had been won.

Everyone was partying and the suburb looked great, but only for the shortest of times.

ENTER THE DEAD.

I woke up after a short sleep to find the entire suburb had changed complexion. The DEAD had moved in quickly and quietly in a short space of time. With well organized groups they had managed to not only take the Mall but most of the resource buildings in Dulston. We were once again on the back foot.

Not only were most of the Battlehawks and it's allies killed in the attack, but lots of random survivors as well. With the revive points clogged up and all of the NT's in the area destroyed it would be a while before help arrived.

But one by one the Battlehawks paid it forward, with the policy of always carrying a syringe with us at all times, we were all up and running within 24 hours, but what to do now.

Kathryn made a bold choice and pulled the team back to Pescodside. Even though it was just as dangerous as Dulston it contained 2 NT buildings and if we managed to keep them we could manufacture syringes and revive the long queues at the RP's.

Over the next week we managed to ( with the help of our Allies)not only keep hold of the NT buildings, but spread out and take back resource buildings, other survivors noticed and started coming back into the suburbs. We had The DEAD on the backfoot.

But alas our time in Dulston was coming to an end. Our commander had SL coming up and another suburb needed the Battlehawks help.

Kathryn decided that one last push was needed to take back Treweeke Mall before we left. A massive RTS with all of our Allies was organized for 10pm the next day.

Everyone was resting, saving AP for the big operation, just making sure our safe houses were not breached in the mean time. With 1 hour to go before the RTS I ventured forth to the Mall to scope out the situation and was surprised to see that random survivors had taken back the Mall and barricaded all 4 corners. The suburb was up and running again, the hawks took back some of the resource buildings around the Mall as a parting gift and then we made our way out of the suburb.

When we arrived the suburb was completely ruined and there were limited survivors in the area. By the time we left the suburb was fighting back and survivors were flocking to the area and staying to fight.

Operation Redecoration

April 8th – May 2nd - Written by Hawke2019

The Battlehawks, always ready to clash wherever fun can be had, swooped down into Whittenside to retake Fort Perryn and recover Fortress One, While bringing along the best of their fashion sense and what marvelous works of art (As well as other interesting things) they could find.

Kathyrn, having recently became the new CO of team Battlehawk was eager to prove her battlepony spirit and launched off the new passage of her career by moving in on Whittenside to retake Fortress one with style! Whats more, Steve the Decimator, a reliable battlehawk veteran came back to the team as the Battlehawks new lieutenant! The team began making their way to Vinetown, staying at a temporary safehouse while collecting a number of interesting sculptures along the way. The team arrived near the fortress and reorganized while they scouted out the area, finding that the fort currently was not too heavily overrun by zombies. While working in unison with allies in the area we slowly began to retake the fortress, organizing strikes on the gatehouse. After determined strikes and steadily pressing on, the gatehouse was retaken and the fort was slowly cleared out and rebuilt. The gatehouse was quickly decorated with a splendor of various arts and sculptures all the while it was being held against increasingly heavy zombie attack. The zombies became more and more in numbers and still we held strong against the enemies, it was not until a massive horde had assembled that they were finally able to break through the defenses. Although the fort was lost, much of the town was now under lighter attack and as the fort fell back into ruins. After the fort fell the team retreated into the nearby town area and began to regroup and restock. Although they had difficulty finding supplies they kept on strong and helped keep the town safer and did some fun Real time strikes. Plenty of fun was to be had at the Real time strikes after the fall of the fort, including a fun party after retaking a museum for the Dance Party RTS.

"Come shake your groove thing with your fellow Batthlehawks! Mission starts at 12:30 EST, be on line around 12 so we can make sure everyone is together and drunk... er... situated before we begin... Bring a sparkly dance outfit and let's show those zombies a good time!" -Kathryn Nozed

After doing as much work as they could with the town, the Battlehawks extricated themselves from the area and went to restock near Pole Mall and prepare for the next operation, but a few more things did happen before they left. Puppiemaster won the interior decorating contest with a whopping six piece of art. Azula Invidia also came back to the Battlehawks during the operation. Righteous Fury received a double promotion to Engagement Squaddie. Kokuzoku joined the Battlehawks as a new member during the operation. Last but not least, Typical Survivor got promoted to Assault Officer!

Overall the Battlehawks did a wonderful job, but due to too much heavy zombie population and not enough survivors populating the area, it was only able to be held so long.

Operation: Janitor Jamboree

Written by Puppiemaster - Location: Santlerville & Heytown

On the 27th March 2009 everyone in the Hawks was waiting to grab their Guns, ammo and FAK's. We were all itching to start a new mission, we had heard on the Grapevine that it would be something completely new, something so magical that we would be astounded.

Then the Call finally came. Steve told us to gear up and to bring our Mop and buckets, we were going on a deadly mission to clean. According to Steve this was no ordinary cleaning mission, this was a mission cleaning up after the RRF, traveling one suburb behind them and restoring the affected Suburb as quickly as possible.

Our Primary Focus would be on NTs so survivors can get back up! Steve stated that "Our team could easily repair these buildings through our awesome RTS'ng skills and perhaps even get the revive points moving again."

So we moved out, as usual Typical Survivor was quickest off the mark and set up a safe house ready for the teams arrival. By the time I arrived at the Morris building in Haytown, Typical Survivor already had it repaired and barricaded. Over the next few days we waited for the rest of the team to arrive, building up scouting reports of the surrounding resource buildings.

On the 30th March we were finally ready to go into action. 3 RTS teams were formed and we struck hard and fast, killing, repairing and barricading resource buildings as we went.

We were slowly making our way up to Dowdney Mall in Santlerville, Haytown was getting back on it's feet. On the 31st March Zombiedodger did a scout of Santlerville and found the place completely ruined. How the hell were we going to get it back up and running while keeping Haytown in a good condition?

Steve and Kathryn made the decision to work our way up to the Mall cleaning and barricading the resource buildings one at a time.

For the next week we worked as hard as we could cleaning, repairing ,barricading and killing Zombies. By the 7th April, local survivors were coming out from their hiding places as well. We had taken back the Mall during the week, but they had kept it, our work in Santlerville was coming to an end.

It had been a fast and furious 14 days. We had come to two ruined suburbs where the survivors were hiding in ruined unlit buildings, when we left lights were on all over the suburbs and the zombie presence was controllable.

Operation: Style by the Shore

Location: Shore Hills - Written by Puppiemaster

This was my first tactical operation with the Battlehawks having only graduated from Boot camp the previous week, along with Private Kiwi.

On the 1st March the Hawks were told that we were going on Vacation and rooms had been booked at The Spurwell Hotel in Shore Hills. Being a new recruit I asked if I could share, unfortunately Irene Cara, Kathryn and Typical Survivor had already made other plans, so I was sharing with Private Kiwi sad.gif.

Before we left for Shore Hills Templarivs laid out our plan of action. We were to, Secure 3 main areas (James General Hospital, Pittman NT and Waddams Arms) and Repair the resource buildings of the suburb. Nude sunbathing was a secondary objective as well.

The Hawks were split into 3 different groups, each group having it's own safehouse. I was allocated a Junkyard with Glasses McCloud and Jay Gorman. Glasses moved in first and dropped a genny , I then moved in any refueled it, lastly Jay joined us and helped barricade, we had our Safehouse.

Within 12 hours our Safehouse was gone. The Zombie presence in Shore Hills was not only large but co-ordinated as well. As soon as we repaired a building they would turn up and quite a few real time attacks ocurred while trying to get resource buildings up and running.

For the next 10 days the Hawks were on the back foot, repairing, barricading and having to fall back after Zombies hit back. Every member of the team died and had to be revived at least once during this time.

My God, what had I let myself in for? Only a few days out of Bootcamp and in a full on battle with hoards of Zombies while trying to get a suburb back on it's feet.

In all honesty the Hawks were losing, so it was time for help, so out went the call. Tommy Crowbar and Miss E answered the call and started to make their way over.

However the locals starting moaning about us on Wiki at the same time;

Thrownaway said:
Guys, really. As much as we appreciate the help, your antics in Shore Hills are really making the natives restless. I don't know if you brought a fan club with you or what, but zed activity is WAY up and people are getting eaten because of it. Have you seen the revive queue? Can't even sleep over the border anymore...

We were fine. Really. Don't you have homes? A mall, somewhere, perhaps? Trenchcoats are on sale!

Given that we were on the back foot, low on supplies and the local population were pissed off with us, Temp decided that we should relocate and restock, so we moved out to Ackland Mall in Havercroft, this move would give us some breathing space.

In the next few days, while everyone restocked, Temp went out and formulated a new plan of action. We were informed that Zeds were using a Salt of the Land Policy (whatever that was). Luckily Temp provided a link so I could find out.

On the 10th March we got our new orders. Our new safe houses would be junkyards and we would branch out to the resource buildings, repair and barricade, then fall back to the junkyards. It sounded good to me, I was sick and tired of being killed, 3 times in a week, on my first op, that was not the mark I wanted to make.

The Hawks really pulled together during the next 7 days, daily RTS strikes were organized 3 times a day. We started to push the zombie hoard back and at last buildings were repaired, stayed repaired. The situation improved so much that Tommy and Miss E made their way back to Fortress 3.

Then overnight on the 17th March all of our gains were wiped out. Zombies attacked in droves, we were once again pushed back towards Ackland Mall, so Temp sent the call out for more help. Team Anaconda and our Allies the ACC answered the call and were on their way to help.

While we waited for reinforcements to arrive we were just treading ground, doing scouting missions and making sure the resource buildings adjacent to our safe house were in good repair and barricaded. Before help arrived, Temp dropped another bombshell. Due to RL issues he was standing down and Jay Gorman was taking over the Hawks until a new commander could be appointed.

This mission was not going to plan and in my eyes was getting worse by the minute. Then even more bad news hit us, the Mall tour was on it's way and Ackland Mall was it's next target. We needed a new plan and we needed one fast.

With all of the Zombie activity in the area, it was not until the 24 March that we finally managed to hook up with Team Anaconda in Shore Hills. They had been having their own fair share of problems with zerging in the area, so Lucy came up with a new operational plan. Team Anaconda would attack from Brookesville and Team Battlehawk would attack from Barrville, using free running lanes and eventually meeting in the middle of Shore Hills.

Over the next week Both teams repaired, barricaded and restored the resource buildings in Shorehills, but alas before our work was completed new orders were posted. We were to move out for some well earned R & R before our new mission. We had spent nearly a month on the front lines always being pushed back by the Zombie hoards.

As they say, you can't win them all. I just didn't expect to start off my Assault team life with what felt like a failure.
