Thank you
For the warm welcome. I hope to be a reliable contributor to the success and accuracy of the wiki and its associated database. I have no current questions, I am quite familiar with the wiki format. However if any do arise you will be the first person I turn to. Thanks again, and don't be afraid just to say hello every now and again, friends, even those on a wiki are an invaluable asset. ;D

- Ooh, you like the iPad? Despite being an Apple fanboy, I haven't actually picked one up yet. Every time I see one of my friends using one, I see all these cool things that I could easily see myself doing, but at the same time, I just don't quite see it fitting in and filling a need that I have. It just seems like it does some things differently and better, rather than doing anything new, so I probably couldn't use it to replace my laptop, my desktop, or my phone, which keeps me from pulling the trigger on a purchase. That said, I'd love to be convinced to get one. ;) —Aichon— 19:48, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah 18GB was a total lie. 40GB is more accurate. MicroSd is dirt cheap and nColor takes up to 32GB. But if open source OS and root capabilities aren't your thing, the double-the-cost iPad is probably the way to go although I would probably pick up a galaxy tab or one of the other 30 Android tabs revealed this summer at E3. Ross I did finally nab a revive and will be hunting Yon now. ~ 19:58, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Congrats! Also, ignore the red exclamation marks that you're likely noticing now. No one around here actually uses them, so they're basically worthless. And Ross was talking about my So you want to be a sysop? article. Your First Job
Congrats Vapor! Now can you work your sysopsy super-happy-fun magic stuff to fix my FA error? It looks fine in the FA page, but it looks broken in the main page. In my mind, having to manually cycle these makes little sense when the wiki can do it for us.-MHSstaff 19:11, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- The easiest way to do it would be to just set up each FA blurb on its own page (e.g. FA1, FA2, FA2, etc., like you did with FA1) and then use the CURRENTWEEK magic word to change the last digit (e.g.
{{path/to/article/FA{{CURRENTWEEK}}}}
.
- The better solution would be to have it actually call a template inside a template, like so
{{{{templatename|current|{{CURRENTWEEK}}}}}}
. The inner template's code should consist of a set of switch statements that will give you back a path to the current/past featured article based on the current week and whether you say "current" or "past" for the first variable. That link will then get filled in for the outer template, which will result in the page at that link being inserted.
- The problem with both of these solutions is that they only support 54 FAs at the most (i.e. max number of weeks in the year), are difficult to edit (though not particularly difficult as code goes), and still don't properly archive the older entries in any sort of meaningful way, though we could simply change the archiving procedure to fix that last issue. —Aichon— 22:50, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

code quest
how do i put a uh, frame inside a frame? ie - like here - if i want a small green frame around that paragraph, instead of the green lines? -- ▧ : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 15:47, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- To be honest, the Mester Arms page is currently breaking Location Style Guide rules. But to answer your question, it would need to be a nested table. It looks like you copied the div table from the top of the CORAM page, which basically is just setting up the basic style of the page. In order to nest a table, you would use the same code but without the div tags. ~ 15:58, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I've long wondered when someone would notice that. May make it a bit more subtle and hope it goes un-noticed. Thanks for the div wisdom x -- ▧ : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 16:09, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- NP. I looked at the code again and it would take a bit more than just removing the div tags to make it work. A whoel table would need to be coded. I can take a look at it after you've made your changes if you want. ~ 16:13, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I just tried playing around with div stuff. Didn't work. Have removed main frame and background colour now. Just wanna try and replace the green lines with a green frame now. -- ▧ : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 16:15, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Danger Report Questions
Hey vapor, I'm not exactly new around here but I do come and go a lot. I was looking at a few building types that have a weird danger report policy. For example all the Cathedrals are 4 block buildings and can be turned into a pinata according to the danger report, wile malls are also 4 block buildings and according to the danger report can not be pinata'd. Stadiums, power stations, mansions and large churches also can be pinata'd according to the wiki. I think we should give all 4 block buildings the same number of attacking zombies to danger level, with the addition of adding a Pinata danger level to all malls. Although it might be very rare that a mall ever does get pinata'd, that does not mean it can't happen. This would help a lot of the newer wiki users when updating building statuses. I would like your input. RaddoX 06:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Piñata was added as a status to the template that gets displayed on every type of building except for malls sometime last year. Since malls use a different template for the statuses that can affect them, it appears to have been missed. Anyway, since folks have liked the piñata status on the wiki, I did go ahead and fix the discrepancy. No sense in having them be different, as you pointed out. —Aichon— 08:42, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Move Requests
As a sysop, you don't need to request moves for simple things like namespacing anymore. :P For example, you could have just done the group recruitment ad you put up yourself. When it's absolutely clear cut, you can feel free to move it without actually putting up the request. --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 07:41, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Suburb Groups
I think we just start a project page, with two weeks for nominations for categories following by a two week vote with maintain status quo listed as an option. Otherwise the talk page might get unwieldy. If you agree, I'll throw it up. Otherwise, I'll throw it up under different sections on the talk page, unwieldiness be damned. -MHSstaff 18:34, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Meh, I agree with others that Open Discussion is where ideas go to die. I honestly don't have a whole lot of invested interest in it so I don't care if the discussion dies or not but if you want this to go somewhere, then template discussion might be the best place to have it, unwieldy or not. We could of course keep the policy discussion going and hope that people keep their heated opinions to the policy page. Your call. ~ 18:49, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
