Basic Info:

Description

This eight-story edifice is a tall white-stone building with distinctive red-brick structural arches, large upper-story widows and revolving doors. The ground floor is similar to standard NecroTech buildings, however, its seems to have been abandoned years ago and left in a partially completed state.

History

The Malton Empire Laundry building (known to the modern city as The Lowther Building) was built in 1913 by Vittorio Montinari, an early pioneer in the Laundry Industry. The architect of the building is listed as Mr. Evo Shandor, the designer of several distinct buildings throughout Malton

The laundry is located on a considerable slope which maximizes ventilation available from prevailing Southern winds, conditions considered ideal for a then flourishing laundry industry. The structure’s curious design testifies to growth and ambition, both within the laundry business and the Malton of its day. The walls are constructed of red paving bricks which on the lower floors are remarkably eight bricks thick. Multiple interwoven brick arches have been incorporated into the facade of the building creating a dynamic and interesting pattern of structure and decoration. An interlocking web of cast iron supports provides additional reinforcement for the structure and has been an oft researched subject by paranormal enthusiasts interested in the later designs of Evo Shandor.

The large and expansive upper story windows were the main means of ventilation for the laundry’s original workforce. The building design dealt with heat over 100°, as well as several types of heavy machinery and weighty piles of clothing (both wet and dry). The building has eight stories with a full basement, and the original concrete reinforcement is still very visible. By 1929, the laundry industry was a lost cause and the structure was bought in 1930 by the renowned cigar dealer Hollyrand Lowther and his business partner E. C. Fieramosca.

It operated admirably in its capacity as a cigar production, storage and sales center up until the months just prior to the outbreak. It was seized under the Marshall Law Proclamation by the government and scheduled to be converted into a NecroTech Facility. It was well into its conversion when it was discovered that the unique aspects of the cast iron structural skeleton interfered with the sensitive Necrotech instruments. It was promptly abandoned and left in its half-converted state. --Dr Emilio Lizardo 16:38, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Historical Footnote: In 1831, Doctor Trevor Rostron (namesake of nearby Rostron Plaza), plummeted to his death from the roof top after the disastrous effects of his snake-oil influenza cure, Rostronium X, killed over 2,000 people. --Dr Emilio Lizardo 22:41, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Barricade Policy

Current Status

2012

  • February 7th, 2012: Came back after few years. No one is there but friends are on their way. Barricades are at maximum. The generator is running well and I have enough fuel to keep it going long enough. I'm am looking for a transreceiver to get this building the use it once had. Since Giddings Mall is in the hand of the rotting, I have nothing better to do than to try to get it back under the daylight... Ken StArnaud 20:01, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

2009

  • December 27th, 2009: Restored and barricades back up. Working generator and transmitter. One zed directly outside, but most activity seems centers a few buildings to the south. Genkumon
  • December 02nd, 2009: This is a report I have received radio frequency 26.38 "This is a report from the Lowther Building, on the Pegton/Pi, tneybank border. Heavy zed activity, including right outside but no break-ins yet. We'll keep the reports coming as long as possible...but it's getting pretty dicey down here. Over. User:En-Vec 00:48, 02 December 2009
  • September 28th, 2009: Installed a transmitter, founded a new group operating out of the building. Visitors and people wishing to take up residence welcome. Minor zed presence outside Muirhead Bank, but no sign of an impending push.--Genkumon 05:38, 28 September 2009 (BST)
  • September 23rd, 2009: Was found EHB but abandoned. Restored power, and have taken up residence. Drifters seen moving through, only I have remained for more than a day. Currently safe, as are the surrounding suburbs. No zed sightings. --Genkumon 18:04, 23 September 2009 (BST)
  • January 5th, 2009: It's safe, cades are maxed EHB, power on and Christmas light are shining red. It's now hard to reach since a lot of the local buildings are EHB...--Ken StArnaud 00:19, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

2008

  • December 15th, 2008: I manage to come back... dunno how long it has been and the building was in a pretty rough shape... I've lost contact with the others employes.. I managed to repair some rooms and I heavily barricaded myself in alone, there was 3 zombies outside a few hours ago... we have no power but i'm loaded with guns, first aid, syringe and fuel... I'm going to try to sleep...--Ken StArnaud 23:19, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
  • March 28th, 2008: Building repaired after extended time in zombie possession. Remains to be seen how long it can hold with both Giddings Mall and Fort Creedy still in ruins. -- Dr Emilio Lizardo 12:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  • March 13th, 2008: Early AM recon, found the interior in ruins with no survivors on site. Decided to return to the Giddings Mall and continue to fill out my resources list. Will return tomorrow. -- Dr Emilio Lizardo 12:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
  • March 12th, 2008: [Written on a paper note] The building has fell few days ago. I'm inside at the moment, I rebuilt everything, the labs have been heavily damaged, and so is my "room". Back to EHB, clear from the inside but 8 zeds outside and few in the near blocks. Creatures present very violent behavior and are subject to be cases of infected ganglions. I'm holding it as long as I can. No lights, no communication... but I have fuel... -- Ken StArnaud 16:23, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[Another note was written] It's been few hours... and I'm still alone in here... I can hear those monsters outside... they tried to smash my barricades but I can easily work faster than them. There's enough rations for a few weeks... I'll need them since they'll never grow tired... nor die... I have no way to communicate with the rest of the city since the building is powered down and my phone can't get a decent signal... I think ... I think that I shouldn't have came back... If I was believing in God... I would be praying... -- Ken StArnaud 20:36, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

  • March 4th, 2008: Everything is good, few survivors are inside, EHB. No zombies inside or outside but there's a good activity around the block. -- Ken StArnaud 19:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • February 26th, 2008: Powered up by a rusty generator full of fuel, a transmitter has been installed and tuned to the Yoyodyne Zombie Research Institute frequency (28.76 MHz) and the baricades are back at their best. Three zombies outside. (last eddited )-- Ken StArnaud 16:55, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
