Smoldering Ruin

Timestamp: Gardenator 21:41, 13 June 2008 (BST)
Type: Seven day event with slight modifications to building description
Scope: All buildings
Description: Allow survivors to start fires in blocks with buildings. Would need a flare gun and one can of gas per attempt. Success rate for starting the fire would be based off of the accuracy of the flare gun. Fire would burn at the rate of one level every 24 hours (max at 7 days). Fire could be stopped by a survivor attacking the fire (based on their punch attack, modified by their hand to hand skill). Attack accuracy would be halved. Fire would have similar characteristics (level of fire and hp) as barricades. Fire max level would increase every day for 7 real days. If the fire was lowered after the first day, another player could add to the fire with one can of gas. Adding gas to the fire would have a chance to fail (being the same as adding barricades). After the first day, Fire effect on a block would be visible in the same way as a flare would be. Flavor text on the outside and inside of the block would change depending on the level of the fire. Search rate percentages would drop by 1% per level of fire. Building color would change to orange/red after second level of Fire. When the fire level rises beyond the first day, a flare like alarm will go out to surrounding blocks distance based on flare x the level of the fire. When the fire reaches level seven, a 24 hour timer starts. At the end of the 24 hours, the building is permanently changed to a smoldering ruin. Smoldering ruins would be interactable similar to the junkyard, but not retain any of the original buildings search rates and abilities.
  1. 1st Day (Initial Fire)- HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Loosely barricaded. - Fire visible on inside only "There is a fire smoldering in one of the rooms."
  2. 2nd Day (Second Level) - HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Lightly barricaded. - Fire visible from inside and outside "There is a fire burning in one of the rooms. Smoke begins to cloud the building." "Smoke is drifting out of the building"
  3. 3rd Day (Third Level) - HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Quite Strongly barricaded. - "There is a fire burning in several rooms. A steady thickening smoke is clouding the building." "There is a fire burning inside the building."
  4. 4th Day (Fourth Level) - HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Very Strongly barricaded. - "There is a large fire burning in several rooms. A steady thickening smoke is clouding the building." "There is a large fire burning inside the building."
  5. 5th Day (Fifth Level) - HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Heavily barricaded. - "There is a fire burning in most of the building. A steady thickening smoke is clouding the building." "There is a fire burning inside most of the building."
  6. 6th Day (Sixth Level) - HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Very Heavily barricaded. - "There is a large fire burning in most of the building. A black, acrid smoke blankets the building." "There is a large fire burning inside most of the building."
  7. 7th Day (Seventh Level) - HP, adding gas (if fire level was lowered), and accuracy based on Extremely Heavily barricaded. - "There is a huge fire burning in the building. A black, acrid smoke blankets the building. The building will burn to the ground in X hours (replace X with number of hours till 7th day is up." "There is a huge fire engulfing the building. The building will burn to the ground in X hours (replace X with number of hours till 7th day is up."

I found various old suggestions, I believe this one to be very different. Suggestion:20070603_Fires, Suggestion:20071107_Fires, PR_Malton#Fire.21 etc. --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! I don't think so. I mean, it's irreversable, so one could theoretically burn the entirety of Malton to the ground, permanently destroying humans forever. Pretty harsh, if you ask me. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  21:47, 13 June 2008 (BST)

So basically, survivors can make fires which can burn down buildings, but can't light a torch or burn a zombie.

  • 1) Everything Bronz said is correct - this would result in burning the entirety of Malton down. With nowhere left to run and hide, there would be no more humans. So to paraphrase you, "Lets just do away with all the pesky humans in the zombie apocalypse. All that thinking and using strategy against them is too hard."
  • 2) Explain how fire can be used to do what you're suggesting, but can't be used as a weapon to permanently burn up a zombie into ashes.
  • 3) There already is an element in the game, thanks to the most recent update, which makes Ruins incredibly difficult to repair (without being impossible) the longer that it stays a ruin (Cowdry Cinema was at 16 or 17AP, when I had last checked, before it was finally repaired) --Tselita 22:17, 13 June 2008 (BST)

The problem with this suggestion is that eventually there would be no resources left. - User:Whitehouse 22:30, 13 June 2008 (BST)

I'm just picturing someone standing in a heavily burning building punching the flames!!!! What happens if someone set fire to a mall with hundreds of people inside who did nothing for 7 days, the building burns to ashes and the people just walk out! The idea of buildings burning down is good but just not practical. --Kamikazie-Bunny 22:54, 13 June 2008 (BST)

I don't think killing everyone inside the building when seven days are up would be very nice. --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! If I read this correctly, this is a survivor attack which is only useful against survivors. No thank you. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 23:18, 13 June 2008 (BST)

I don't think I like this applying to any building, but if it could be a way to "ruin" junkyards it would be great. Right now junkyards can't be ruined and can always be barricaded. So any free running path that has a junkyard on it can be broken unlike now where you can always use a junkyard. Of course, making it only something survivors can do destroys the point of zombie ruin. On the other hand, I think survivors should be able to ruin also. So in conclusion, I have mixed feelings on this at best.--– Nubis NWO 00:13, 14 June 2008 (BST)

Wow... ruining junkyards. Stop - you're turning that pile of garbage into ... a pile of garbage. --Tselita 01:07, 14 June 2008 (BST)

Ok well what if the maximum level increases every day but has to be increased by survivors using a gas can? --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! What if I changed the mechanic to be permanent but removable with user interaction? --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! Death cultists use survivor weapons and abilities against them, we don't need things that can only be used by survivors, against survivors. It's a zombie apocalypse, not psychopath city -- boxy talki 07:10 18 June 2008 (BST)

I've always liked the idea of burning stuff to the ground....and in the game as well. This suggestion is a bit too complex though. Also any skill of this nature won't pass due to the whining survivor skills shouldn't hurt survivors brigade. Oh, look who's appeared....

I might dust off my thoughts on this if I can be bothered. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 17:55, 19 June 2008 (BST)

Oh please, spare me. I've no problem with survivor skills being used against survivors, such as allows PKing. But creating new skills that can only be used by survivors against survivors changes this from zombie apocalypse game to a simple survivor v survivor gang warfare game with zombies on the sideline -- boxy talki 16:16 20 June 2008 (BST)
My initial thoughts are that as time passes and the buildings (and all the stuff inside of them) age, the risk of fires could be put into the game. If this was a real life scenario (without zombies) a fire would be a real danger. --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! In the real world, this would be so, however this would have already happened in game so the sudden introduction would require a flavour reasoning. Remember of course that realism in regards to building degradation does not exist in Malton, otherwise buildings would be structurally irreparable due to ransack and ruin long before now.
I like the general idea, but think this variant is too complex and that the pro survivors will never let something like this pass. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 00:21, 20 June 2008 (BST)
