20070801 Contact List with Checkbox

ΔΔΔ  Swiers BigEYEwitnessLOGO.png 18:06, 1 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
interface improvement

Suggestion scope
the contacts list

Suggestion description
I suggest that in addition to the droplist that is currently next to each contact on the contact list, there should also be a checkbox on the same line.

At the bottom of the page, there would be a "master droplist" that is not tied to any character profile. Instead, this droplist's option would (when you click "make changes") apply its effect to all the profiles with boxes that are checked.

This would (for example) make it MUCH faster to delete (or change the color of, etc) 10+ profiles at a time. To do so, you could just click the checkboxes, select "delete contact" (or other desired option) on the "master droplist", and then click "make changes".

  25. Keep - I like this idea as is but I would personally change it to one interface method. In my head I image the only way to edit things is through check boxes and you have a combobox (master list) except instead of "color - green" "color - red" ect. being in there over and over you have an option called "color" and a seperate combobox that has the different colors in them. This would clean up and make it intuitive as well as allow you to change multiple things at once.--Dipcup 01:17, 11 August 2007 (BST)
True, there might not be much purpose to keeping the individual line drop-lists, except that people are used to them (and used to hating them, if they are like me). ΔΔ Swiers BigEYEwitnessLOGOgrey.png 04:01, 11 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - The current interface is simple and functional. This would confuse it. For example, it's not obvious what would happen if you tried to set a contact to green with the drop-down menu at the same time as setting it to red with the checkbox. In a good interface, everything should be obvious.--  T   21:35, 1 August 2007 (BST)
Simple to fix. Have two SEPARATE submit buttons. One in the current location, affecting only the individual settings, just as it currently does. And one right next to the "master drop down" that says "change all check marked profiles to match this setting", or something along those lines. Since you can't click both at once, there is no conflict, and the description seems intuitive (if wordy). And hell, that is probably EASIER to code, to boot. Yep, that's a big improvement. Kill vote cancelled. --  T   14:22, 16 August 2007 (BST)
