20070812 Flavor Text for Lots of Bodies (revised Piled Bodies)

Steakfish 22:47, 12 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type Flavor

Suggestion scope Flavor text for area with lots of bodies

Suggestion description
This is a revised version of my previous suggestion, "Piled Bodies", which has now been removed. I was getting a lot of kill and change votes because people thought it would mess with the Scent Death skill, which was not my intent. My suggestion is to use different flavor text in any area with more than 10 dead bodies. The game currently displays "There are X dead bodies here." for any number of bodies. I think if the number is more than 10, it should give you something a little more descriptive, since that many people rarely die in the same spot, unless something significant has happened there. It could be something like "There is a bloody pile of X bodies and dismembered parts." or "There are X dead bodies here. Maybe you should sleep inside." or "The X dead bodies here are no doubt responsible for the foul smell." or "There are X dead bodies here... a mass suicide?" (that one might be used for tall buildings). It could be any one of those, or all of them (randomly), or something completely different. Scent death will work exactly as it does now. The point is to mark the significance of a large number of bodies. --Steakfish 22:47, 12 August 2007 (BST)

Keep Votes

  1. Keep -I see no problem at all, it may add some emotion to the bland text of the game.Dasoldierguy 3:40, 13 August 2007 (EST)

  14. Keep - Sure why not? Im all for anything that spices the game up-like barricading with empty cardboard boxes!--Dr Doom86 06:43, 14 August 2007 (BST)
  15. POINTLESSFLAVOR I agree, pointless flavor is good. Esp. in a zombie game. BoboTalkClown 17:58, 14 August 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep - I just don't like the specific examples the author gives. Use something more neutral, don't assume a background story... but make it that much more chilling... even just refer to the stench and the flies and... the RATS... :P --WanYao 11:44, 15 August 2007 (BST)
  17. Keep - Yes. -Animi 18:52, 15 August 2007 (BST)
  18. Keep - Flav-our!!! Flav-our!!! Flav-our!!! --Anotherpongo 19:30, 16 August 2007 (BST)
  19. Keep - I love almost everything that adds flavour, without spamming. So keep replacing and connecting the displayed messages. People who read them will love them and all the others will continue to ignore them.-- [ ρsych°Lychεε ]  T 15:53, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  20. Keep - Pointless flavor is the siznit --Brainz 15:56, 20 August 2007 (BST)
  21. Keeper I have seen over 30 bodies in one spot (and a contact in there somewere) No reason to kill --Kaynex 04:42, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  22. Keep""" - yes. The text is really bland about this.--DerangedFerret 20:19, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  23. Keep - Despite mild disgust about "good flavour" being applied to piles of dead bodies, it'd be pretty neat. --Pgunn 21:30, 27 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Pointless flavor. --Saluton 23:48, 12 August 2007 (BST)
  2. What about the fact that "large piles" wouldn't really last that long. I mean if the corpses were there in each square permanently, yeah. But either the zombies get up (thus no "body") and move or the character goes into hidden after 5 days.--Pesatyel 07:07, 13 August 2007 (BST)
If a body rises or times out, obviously it is no longer counted. If it drops the count under 10, the text would return to normal. For a little while, at least, people got to see something special. --Steakfish 12:45, 13 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Not that it isn't a good idea, but one would think the fact that there's a huge pile of corpses outside a "safehouse" would be a bit of a warning sign all on it's own. Kalir FTW! Z/S UD Potato Words 20:45, 13 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - it may be very misleading for newbies (I imagine You are standing outside the Latrobe Building. There are 54 dead bodies. Mass suicide? :D) and will be pretty useless for almost everybody else (it may very well be that some people read the text very carefully, but I don't). -- John RubinT! Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - The suggestion boils down to "Kevan should edit the flavor text". Which really, isn't a suggestion- its an editorial comment. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 02:13, 14 August 2007 (BST)
Suggestions that are mostly or entirely flavor based have made it into peer reviewed before. There's the "distant billboards" suggestion, and the "search flavor text" suggestion, for example. --Steakfish 05:40, 14 August 2007 (BST)
