Suggestion type
Skill/improvement
Suggestion scope
Applies to all survivors, maybe even zombies as well
Suggestion description
As a survivor often in combat zones, I have witnessed countless speeches made by zeds. It's really a shame that I had no clue what the hell they're saying, because a lot of them looked pretty good, especially when a break-in happens, and they give off a bunch of them. Other than HARMAN HAMBURGARZ or other lines they say that appears obvious what they're saying, the rest is basically garbage without a proper translator (who can understand “guyt6rfybgjkgub”?). With that, even when they're taunting survivors or even trying to talk at all, I have no clue what they're saying, and it takes a huge part away from the potential joy of playing with others.
Now I know some of you are going to mention the links on the wiki to a few speech translators. That's great...it's too bad none of them work. Okay, maybe they do for some people, but as somebody who uses Microsucks Internet Exploiter to access the game, I sure can't get a single one to work! And, no, I can't get another browser. This is a library computer. I've found library and college computers typically only have IE installed, and since most people lack admin rights, they can't do anything about it. In other words, my situation is likely widely experienced, so many of us have no way to read what zombies are saying. So what are some solutions?
Well, somebody could modify some of those translators to work in IE, but it only works for people who actually refer to the wiki links, which many do not. This is one possible solution...
The best solution, I feel, would be to make an in-game skill. Although I called it Zombie Speech Recognition, anyone could probably come up with a much better name for it, so that's not important right now. The skill is simple though-automatically translate all zombie-said messages to English. Anybody should be able to purchase it for 100XP. I don't know whether or not to make it available to the survivors or zombies, but I think it should work for both sides the way Diagnosis or NT employment does. I guess survivors would probably need it more, so they'd likely be the best recipient. It should probably have its own branch on the skill tree, as a lone skill. This way, it'd work in all broswers (handled by the game itself), would be avilable to everybody, and would allow all players to be able to communicate with each other.

- Change - So surviors can't understand it, but for zombies it should be as plain as day, even without a skill, because they should understand what they are saying themselves, right? BoboTalkClown 22:03, 9 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Cuz Im a trnslator and I wanna translate! Sockem 04:52, 15 October 2007 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Kill - Screws up how zombies talk now so that survivors can understand it. Zombie speech is spoken phonetic language, at least the majority of it is. If you don't understand it say it out loud a few times, it'll probably come to you. I vote kill because this takes away from the fun of zombie speech.--Karekmaps?! 14:35, 9 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - It's a good idea, but the thing is, zombie speech is mostly improvised. --LumiReaver 14:49, 9 October 2007 (BST)

- Kill - Making zombie speech that gets your message across within the current limitations is an art-form... this skill cheapens it -- boxy • talk • 15:12 9 October 2007 (BST)

- Kill/Change - It's a whole new language. Learning how to use a gun more effectively or how to build a barricade makes sense in the context of the game, but learning a different language when you're fighting for your life doesn't make sense. However, certain buzzwords that one would hear often (kill, brains, help, etc.) becoming recognizable I could get behind.--Actingupagain 19:01, 9 October 2007 (BST)
- Grab- Az a bang bang man araragh. The idea is worse than my attempts to speak zombie.Studoku 20:10, 9 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Zombies are not politicians delivering a finely-crafted soundbite on the latest developments in foreign affairs, nor are they even as able to speak as illiterate young hoodlums - they're not even really human anymore. Don't expect them to be easy to understand.. --Pgunn 20:13, 9 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - What everyone else said. Besides, it wouldn't work, anyway... because zombie is improvised approximation of English... meaning people often say/spell the same things very differently... translation could never be automated, because there is NO standardisation. Basically, you have try to learn the most common stuff, and figure the rest out by saying it aloud... Whether speaking or hearing Death Rattle, that's part of the fun: figuring it out. But I've often thought that it must be a real challenge for non-native English speakers -- sometimes it's even a challenge for me! Oh... but sometimes it is just GIBBERISH, man... Only the Death Rattler has any idea what he's saying... ;) --WanYao 20:35, 9 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Hardly anyone uses the zombese tool, anyway. Glenstone 03:45, 10 October 2007 (BST)
