20080516 New Item: Welding torch (Includes new sub-items and skill)
Blake Firedancer 23:45, 16 May 2008 (BST)
Suggestion type
Items, with a related skill.
Suggestion scope
Survivors.
Suggestion description
OK, well a welding torch could be used by survivors who have the 'Advanced Construction' skill in one of three ways:
- It could be used as a brutal (yet inefficient) stationary weapon.
- It could be used to strengthen barricades.
- It could be used to weld additional fuel tanks onto portable generators.
Where are they?
- Factories (3% find rate in unpowered, intact buildings)
- Hardware stores (5% find rate in unpowered, intact mall)
Where are the additional fuel tanks found?
- Streets (10% if you have Advanced Construction, 0% otherwise)
- Junkyards (25% if you have Advanced Construction, 0% otherwise)
- Carparks (15% if you have Advanced Construction, 0% otherwise)
Where are the welding tanks found?
- Factories (1% in unpowered, intact building. +2% for power, -.5% for ruined)
- Hardware stores (2% in unpowered, intact building. +2% for powered, -1% for ruined.)
What is 'Advanced Construction'?
- Sub-skill of Construction
- Allows use of welding tools
- Takes up 100 XP
Pros:
- All of the above uses
Cons:
- 3 'shots' per tank only
- You can only find the welding torch, welding tanks or additional fuel tanks if you have the Advanced Construction skill.
- Encumberance rate of 25% for the welder, 10% for the welding tanks and 12% for the additional fuel tanks.
- Requires to be set up before use, in the same manner as a generator.
- Does not come with fueled welding tanks
- Cannot weld additional fuel tanks onto running generators, or onto generators with fuel still inside. Otherwise, it could explode, taking out everyone in the room.
- You'd have to find the additional fuel tank before you could weld it on. Perhaps you could salvage it from an overturned car?
- To refuel, you'd need to use a welding tank.
- Only people with enough mechanical skill can use them for any purpose.
- Only one additional fuel tank can be added to a generator, and it'll only increase the fuel capacity to 125%

- Spam - You've not made it clear anywhere in the suggestion exactly how this item would operate. What are its stats as a weapon? How does it improve building barricades? --#4 - Haberdash TMG 01:33, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Spam - Did you even READ anything I said in the discussion? I told you, if this is a weapon, where are the weapon stats? Damage? Hit %? How does it aid in barricading? What does it DO for it? Generators already run for a WEEK on 1 can of fuel. How much AP does it take to DO any of this stuff? The search % is ridiculously high. I don't have a problem with looking in more places but up to 25%? Wow. Oh, and by the way do NOT add in any of the stats you forgot or this will be removed.--Pesatyel 05:10, 17 May 2008 (BST)
