Description

It is fair to say the Bennett Building has seen better days, but it is still impressive due to its sheer scale, and its grandeur is still discernible among the ruins. The building has not only suffered repeated zombie incursions, but was even firebombed as part of the early, misguided responses by the military to reclaim Malton after the outbreak.

History

The end of the world has taken its toll.

Although officially known as the Bennett Building after some obscure functionary now lost to history, the seat of the Pegton Council is almost universally referred to by locals as 'the Pegghouse', in reference to the ancient rulers of Pegton who had handed power over to the elected Pegton Council.

The Council found itself facing a growing challenge: how to keep the divergent halves of Pegton united? When a rigged election returned a reactionary, pro-capital council in the mid-50s, the social rift that split the suburb became a physical one with the construction of the Pegton Wall in 1961. Interestingly, the Wall had a distinct 'kink' in it to ensure the Pegghouse was on the southwestern side, despite being historically part of northeast Pegton.

The Pegton Wall era was the darkest chapter in Pegton's rich history, and it is a testament to the tolerance and forgiveness shown by the Pegtonians that the Pegghouse was not torched after the Wall was torn down in 1989.

However, the reprieve lasted less than two decades, before zombies smashed the doors down and broke through the windows so that they could kill and eat the council of 2005: the so-called Defenestration of Pegton.
