Brand New Non-Metagaming Skill!

Suggestion scope
Zombies

Suggestion description
Zombies are starting to organize together as Hordes.

Under Memories of Life is a skill known as "Horde Leader". A zombie who has this skill can press a button: "Start Horde" (5 AP). This zombie starts up a Horde and joins in. All players will see:

There are X zombies in a horde. (Join Horde? 1 AP)

Only Zombies can join Hordes (sorry Trenchies). There can only be 1 Horde per Block.

Once you join the Horde, the screen changes to:

You are in a horde with X zombies. (Leave Horde? 0 AP)

You also automatically leave the Horde when you leave to another block...or if you get killed.

What is interesting is that the larger the Horde, the more powerful the members of the Hordes will be to attack against Barricades. When 10 Zombies are in a Horde, the attack accuracy against Barricades goes up 1%. 20 Zombies...2%. The cap is at 50 zombies, with a 5% addition of accuracy. More people can join up with the Horde though, to benieft from the increased accuracy.

It's not exactly a passive effect where you do nothing and grow more powerful, since you have to spend AP to get the bonus. Altogether, 50 zombies need to spend 54 AP to unite together into one Horde, meaning that the zombies waste 54 attacks against Barricades, meaning that zombies do suffer from losing power in the short term, in order to unite together for a longer-term seige.

Not only that, but it is a huge detterent against zergers...In order to gain the max. beniefts, a Zerger has to make 50 zombies, and have one zombie create the Horde and the other 49 zombies join in. This will lead to the Zerger spending 49+5=54 AP to actually set up the Horde with the max. bonus...which is stupid. The zerger would have been much better off attacking the Barricades 54 times, in order to destroy the cades and rush in with his huge Zergling army. It becomes ineffienct to cheat via this method, so zergers won't abuse this.

When the Barricades goes down, and the zombies storm in to eat tasty brains, he does not leave the Horde (since he is in the same square), but of course, there is no benieft to the Horde, since there are no Barricades. As soon as he does leave that block (say, to go to the NW corner to eat more brains), he has left the Horde.

Overall, it's a tiny boost, caused by zombies spending AP together, leading to zombies working together, without any need for "meta-gaming". Hopefully, it will cause zombies to have fun in this game, giving them a feature that will entice them to stay within the game. A 5% boost in attacking barricades is not a lot, considering the costs associated with it and the fact that if you die, you leave the Horde.

  1. Kill - I don't hate the suggestion, but change the name of the skill to something that doesn't imply that you're the horde's "leader" when you start one and make any zombie that joins require the skill in order to do so, and it will be a keep. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 07:31, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - What happens when the "leader" leaves the block? Does the horde disappear or what? - JedazΣT MC ΞD CT SR: 10:16, 15 May 2007 (GMT)
  3. Kill - once there are already a lot of zombies in one block they already have benefit just from their number. i don't see a point. --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 12:13, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  4. kill Combine this with metagaming, and we have a situation where every zombie gets +5% to attack barricades for a lousy 1 AP. That's simply to good. -BzAli 12:15, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  5. Change - The horde mechanic is good (its something I've tried in a few suggestions- mine didn't have a leader, you just joined a horde sort of like moving to a new location - hordes don't need leaders, really) but the trick is to find a benefit that isn't to powerful. See the talk page for such an idea. --Seb_Wiers VeM 12:48, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - The logic that this prevents zergers just doesn't work. Do you realize that zergers use bots? The time difference between making 50 zombies and spending a few AP on each of them to get a 5% attack increase and just attacking is the time it takes to get a cup of coffee, or to make breakfast. This is, of course, excluding the time it takes to get them all to the same place. --Saluton 14:42, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - Zombies already have enough power when they group together (look at the Big Bash, RRF, and the Mall Tours). The horde mechanic just adds to what they already do: go through the entire city and turn 80% of it into red devastated suburbs. Claiming it will keep zombie players playing the game will cause more 'burbs to be run over and then lead to humans leaving. The key of the game is to keep it in balance so everyone wants to play.--20m813 (MPD) 20:47, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - It's not really a bad idea, but MatthewFahrenheit's suggestion is a good one. Also, I don't understand why it couldn't be abused by zergers. If it is useful to a normal horde, it would seem useful to a horde of zergs in the same fashion. --Rgon 22:51, 15 May 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - I was a little unclear about one point. When your horde of zombies successfully tears down the barricades, does the entire horde waltz inside automatically? Or did you just mean that going inside does not remove them from the horde? --Uncle Bill 00:35, 16 May 2007 (BST)\
I mean going inside does not remove them from the Horde. Altough you can expect a revision along the lines of swiers soon...--ShadowScope 08:02, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - The AP costs are a waste either they get the bonus or they don't, don't put a skill no one will get in the game unless there is a good reason to get it, when only 1 in 50 people need the skill that isn't good reason(considering most hordes over 50 people start or ar run by metagaming zombies), and the fact that the zombie can't move without wasting 2-3 AP on to do it seems like just another AP blow to zombies who are already wasting absurd amounts of AP doing nothing, what happens when they die or get Combat Revived? It makes zombies better, which is good because they are not as great as everyone seems to think, Dewes would be a great example of how clearly delusional the survivors can be to the strength of zombies thanks to it having lasted as long as it has for no reason other than that they actually took the time to organize their defense. Basically I'm saying I am killing this because I don't think it should be a skill, that it shouldn't be limited to one square(something like x zombies in your 9sq block would be more agreeable), and that wasting that much AP is absurd 15 AP for 1% is most of the barricades down for being able to do what you already can and just as well.--karek 06:28, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  11. Read above votes. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:02, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill -for the already stated problems--Vista +1 18:17, 18 May 2007 (BST)
  13. Kill The effect should be passive, like an automatic bonus when you walk into a large swarm. I don't like having to spend AP to get in. --Secruss 16:33, 26 May 2007 (BST)
