About
Orison is my primary survivor character. I do meta-game extensively with him, coordinating his efforts with those of the group he's in. He's primarily a medic and reviver, with little focus on attacking zombies. I've also been using him for scouting in the suburbs that our group operates in.
Most of the userscripts I've written were designed with him in mind, just because the everyday tasks of a survivor seems to be a mite more complicated than that of a zombie. As with all of my characters, Orison does not come into close proximity with any of my other characters, nor do any of them work together or facilitate each other in any way, though his current position is not shown as a result of a request from the leadership of his group.
While he was the character I identified most with initially, I never favored him over the others, and I actually find myself identifying with some of the other characters more often these days.
History
Orison "woke up" in Judgewood on August 15th, 2009. After a little exploring around Judgewood and Jensentown, he moved down to Darvall Heights to look into the Soldiers of Crossman (SoC) since I had heard about them up in Judgewood. After observing them for a week or two, I was generally impressed with what I saw when compared to the other groups I had seen in the game at that point, and after making an incidental wiki edit that attracted the attention of the SoC's leader, Orison was extended an invitation to join the SoC, which I gladly accepted on August 29th, 2009.
Since that time, Orison has been through quite a bit. He helped reclaim parts of Darvall Heights, before moving up to Gatcombeton and doing the same up there. The SoC then pulled back to Caiger Mall, defending it for several weeks, despite coordinated attacks by major PKing groups and a decently-large zombie horde, before the mall finally succumbed to its fifth ruin. Following that, he and the SoC moved to Roywood, where they successfully reclaimed the suburb and held it for an extended period of time. When the time came for the group to move on, he and a select few others were chosen to stay behind to hold the suburb. Around that time, he was given a position as a Lieutenant within SoC, the second highest rank in the group, and was assigned the title of Visionary as well.
Following a renewed Northwest offensive by the zombie group Extinction, the SoC's main force rejoined the Roywood branch and continued its defense of Roywood, engaging in a battle of give-and-take with the zombie group. Orison primarily acted as an engineer during this time, repairing high-cost buildings and barricading them to provide an adequate number of safehouses for those in the area. Unfortunately, as a result of the ongoing battle, almost all of the indigent survivors were eventually chased out or else found themselves counted among the dead. With no one left to protect, the SoC' briefly moved on to Quarlesbank, before taking a breather, first in Shuttlebank, then in East Becktown.
Due to real life concerns, the leader of the SoC was forced to temporarily step aside, leaving Orison in command of the group during her absence. The SoC, ever anxious for action, made the trek over to Yagoton, where they, along with The Abandoned and other local groups, helped to bring the Yagoton Revivification Clinic back online in the wake of the destruction wrought by the Ridleybank Resistance Force, which had come through a week prior.
The SoC has since moved on and our glorious leader has returned, leaving Orison back in his former role as Lieutenant: a position he was eager to reclaim.
Back story
Orison Flynt was a happily married father with a background in chemical engineering and process management. Six months prior to the outbreak in Malton, he accepted a position at NecroTech and moved his family to the Darvall Heights suburb of Malton. His wife, Emma was an active wife who was operating her own business from home, while his seven year old daughter, Jamie, was having difficulty adjusting to life in Malton as she worked her way through the second grade. Emma was able to move her wares easily enough and set up shop in their new home, and she also enjoyed the close proximity of her brother, Doug Collins, who was already a resident of Malton. Jamie, meanwhile, seemed to be having trouble making friends, perhaps partially due to the somewhat negative influence of her uncle.
Despite the fact that Orison's work was only tangentially related to the research that brought about the outbreak, he showed quite a bit of potential and was assigned to work near the main NecroTech facilities in and around Ridleybank. For a time, he commuted from Darvall Heights to the greater Riddleybank area each day.
The day of the outbreak, Orison was enjoying a casual lunch at Dufferin Park when he noticed several adults begin attacking the children, only to see the children turn on each other too. Being the scientist that he was, he didn't approach the attackers since he couldn't make sense of what was occurring. Instead, he fled towards his car, determined to head back to the safety and quiet of his office. On the way there, however, he saw an increasingly large number of these shambling people who seemed to be attacking any bystanders in the area. Moments later, he recalled a paper that had crossed his desk earlier that month, describing effects of this sort as a possibility with research that was being conducted elsewhere within the corporation. Realizing the risk posed by these "people," he knew he had to alert his family to the danger at hand.
Reaching for his cell phone, he discovered that it was missing from its usual pocket, doubtless inadvertently abandoned at the park when he fled. Rather than look for a phone booth, he drove like a madman across the city, hoping to beat the panic and make it to his family. Unfortunately, word of the outbreak spread faster than he would have liked, and mass hysteria set in. Within minutes, the streets were clogged with people trying to evacuate the city.
By the time he arrived at his house a few days later, he had no choice but to continue driving without coming to a stop. Corpses littered the streets of Darvall Heights, shambling bodies chased after the car, and ichor covered every surface. Hoping that his family had evacuated before the horde had reached them, Orison resolved to head for the outskirts of the city. With only a little gasoline left in his car though, he ran out of fuel in Judgewood, leaving him stranded in a suburb he didn't know. Recognizing the logo coming from The Ludlow Building, he headed inside, prayed for mercy, and went to sleep.
When he awoke, he found other survivors huddled in the corners, each with their own story and horrors of their own. Not knowing whether his own family had managed to escape or had been zombified, and faced with the reality of being quarantined in the city with no way to communicate with them, even if they had survived, Orison made the decision to use his talents to bring about the end of this nightmare. Only then would he be free to find his family.
