The written part of my crat duty  is to be the one to ask if you are actually sure. The ''unwritten'' part, however, is to decide when to ask. I will let this simmer for a bit to prevent you from rushing something based on a single squarrel. Expect my actual question sometimes next evening, or a bit later. I hope this will give you much needed time to ponder on this step, and on whether it is justified. --'''<span style="font-family:monospace; background-color:#222222">[[User:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime"> Spiderzed</span>]][[User talk:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime">█ </span>]]</span>''' 00:46, 10 April 2013 (BST)

:You won't hear a complaint from me, since I don't mind having the time to double-check my own motives. That said, I don't expect it'll make a difference. I had been contemplating a demotion before any of this stuff started, simply because I agree with anyone else that thinks I'm losing touch with what it's like to be a normal user and not be the one in control. I wasn't convinced I needed to take action yet, but with the recent drama, I feel that there's enough evidence to warrant taking action now, rather than later. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 01:04, 10 April 2013 (BST)

This page is for system operators to request a demotion of status, or for enaction of demotion due to long-term inactivity. The act of demotion is restricted to those with bureaucrat status, and as such system operators will need to request their demotion here.

Guidelines for Demotion Requests

Request

System operators who wish to request demotion must consider these things before applying.

  • Reason for demotion - As demotions cannot be reversed unless the user goes through promotions page again, the user is asked to make sure that they are making the correct decision when applying for demotion.

After a system operator has submitted his or her demotion request, the active Bureaucrats will review it, and after reaching a unanimous decision, choose to either demote the system operator or deny his or her request. After action has been taken, the request will be moved to the archive.

Inactivity

Crystal Clear app xmag.png main article: Policy Text

  • A sysop that hasn't made any edit in four months will be warned, on their talk page, by a Bureaucrat, that they face demotion of their sysop powers in one week, if they remain inactive.
  • One week after the warning has been placed, dependant on the actions of the sysop, the Bureaucrat will decide whether or not to carry out the demotion.
  • This is to avoid, for example, the unlikely case of a sysop simply making a single edit with the aim of avoiding the demotion.
  • The Bureaucrat is trusted and bound to make a fair decision, and not to demote a sysop who clearly demonstrates a return to activity on the wiki.
  • Any demonstrable abuse of this power by a Bureaucrat, however unlikely, could (as with any other abuse of specific powers) be grounds for a Misconduct case.
  • If the sysop makes no response at all to the warnings, they must be demoted.

Requests for demotion still needing to be processed

I'd appreciate a full demotion, please. As for why...

The way I see it, sysops deal with abuse all the time, and I'm used to it. In the last 24 hours I've been called a "fucking idiot" and "fucking idiotic", told I suck, been informed by a few people that I've "disappointed" them, accused of playing favorites, seen two long-time users announce their plans to leave in reaction to the decision I was a part of, and been falsely accused of banning a user for doing something I didn't like. That's just part of the job, and I'm used to dealing with it, since sysops don't always make decisions that people like.

What makes this different is that all of those comments have come from people that I respect and want to see engaged in the wiki. In the past, I've been able to count on all of these people to calmly present counterarguments to whatever was the cause of disagreement between us. There's always been a mutual respect. Sure, everyone gets a little heated from time to time (some more than others :P), but on the whole, I've always felt like these folks knew that they could talk with me, that I'd listen, and that we'd do our best to work through the issue together. No issue was too tough to be resolved.

That's clearly not what's happening here, and what that tells me is that I've lost these people's trust. Either they feel that I'm not listening, or they feel that I can't understand, and so they're trying to reach through in some other way. Well, message heard. Either I'm so out of touch with the wiki community that my only recourse is to step down, take a vacation, and regain some perspective, or else the price for being right is alienating them, which is higher than I'm willing to pay. I've always said I'm serious about being open to being convinced that I'm wrong, and my putting myself in everyone else's shoes, while not being the reason for this demotion request, is nonetheless one way of demonstrating my seriousness. TL;DR Version: Imagine the world's smallest violin playing while I blather on for too long, cry about respect and trust, and paint myself as a martyr and you'll pretty much have a general sense for what I said. If you think it's a ragequit, I'd totally understand, even though it's not. Aichon 23:45, 9 April 2013 (BST)

Refuse. I don't want to be disrespectful to any of the parties here - but what is needed is a break with a duration of hours on all sides, not a departure from anyone. --SarahSig.png 00:12, 10 April 2013 (BST)

You won't hear a complaint from me, since I don't mind having the time to double-check my own motives. That said, I don't expect it'll make a difference. I had been contemplating a demotion before any of this stuff started, simply because I agree with anyone else that thinks I'm losing touch with what it's like to be a normal user and not be the one in control.
