Me being a retard

I wanted to apologize for my rant on the deletions page. I got carried away, and it had nothing to do with you - it was just a bad day IRL. I know that is not an excuse, so I just wanted to man-up here. I do agree with you, the two things are not related whatsoever - however, I don't think the page should be deleted because of it. I also find the Denial of Service like attacks that the editor is suggesting against the IRC channels is abhorrent - that should be edited off the page for sure - and I would support you in an arbitration against the user for posting that information. --Ryiis 19:08, 13 September 2007 (BST)

Barhah

Not sure what your plans are, or what contacts you may have - but in the human counterattack, Yagoton has become the base of resistance for the North-Northeast area of the map. Due to attempting to hold the NT buildings in surrounding suburbs, I'm not able to amass a force as I usually would to take back Bale Mall and the NT buildings subsequently, before flushing out the harmanz and returning the order of that section of the map to complete red. If MOB's free or if you are able to pull strings with any kind of organized horde of some kind, the fight in Yagoton's probably one of the most important fights going on right now in Malton. --Donathin 18:33, 13 September 2007 (BST)

SteamFront Stuff

(Moved from UDWiki talk:Administration/Policy Discussion/Banning Policy)

Had no trouble registering though. Hope you don't mind. When is it going live?-- Vista  +1  19:23, 17 September 2007 (BST)

Yeah, people can make accounts and such. Uhm, I don't anticipate it going live for a couple months. I just rebuilt the underlying mapping engine entirely (to handle terrain altitude and modification (e.g., buy a patch of lush grasslands, raze it into bare earth, till it to tilled soil, plant appleseeds to make an apple orchard - or just fuck all that and build a cottage), for instance, and am working on a bunch of "core" things (like trying to do realistic weather). I'm also working on the mapping tools themselves (the version of Magrathea I wrote for NW is inadequate: NW is 21,454 squares with about 6,000 interiors, while steamfront is 7,272,000 external squares with an arbitrary (yet indeterminate) number of squares used by building interiors, dungeons, caves, etc.) So, uh, I'm using photoshop as my mapping tool.--Jorm 19:40, 17 September 2007 (BST)
Is it action point based as NW? or just continual playable? either way I'm probably available for testing if you don't have enough volunteers already...-- Vista  +1  19:56, 17 September 2007 (BST)
Continually playable, but you'll have a timelimit per day depending on your account type. It's actually a clever system that uses "sand grains" as "time currency".--Jorm 19:59, 17 September 2007 (BST)
smart. So I'll finally have to crack open my wallet to spend time playing the mmorpg's in this little corner of the internet.-- Vista  +1  20:04, 17 September 2007 (BST)
We're a bit away from any type of "open" testing yet, but when it's open, there will be an announcement, you betcha.--Jorm 20:19, 17 September 2007 (BST)
I'm busy reading the wiki right now, It seems very interesting, but I've always been a fan of steampunk (Dwarfs with guns!). be sure to make the announcement here as well though.-- Vista  +1  20:22, 17 September 2007 (BST)
I am thinking about running a Lexicon game on it to help flesh out a lot of the backstory. There's about 50 pages of stuff and discussion on that wiki that aren't public right now (SFWiki has a "hide this namespace from non group members" modification), but there are places where I think fresh ideas might help. Dunno yet; too many lexicons die on the vine.--Jorm 20:32, 17 September 2007 (BST)
lexicons are to dependent on group collaboration, I think it's easier just to let people you're confident about write entire articles and then just redact them to fit in your framework. that way if somebody drops out or doesn't follow schedules well the rest doesn't suffer. just make sure that they know that their entire article may be axed or heavily altered beyond recognition.-- Vista  +1  20:51, 17 September 2007 (BST)

Ridleybank Danger Report

Probably best to just leave it until he logs off. I doubt he's even knows what you mean by saying he's screwing up the page.--Karekmaps?! 20:28, 21 September 2007 (BST)

And you know what? Instead of being short to me like this and assuming I should somehow instinctively know things when I don't, you could actually tell me where these instructions are so I can read them and not repeat mistakes. Adrian Steiner 14:43, 21 September 2007 (CST)
that's true. i think it's time for someone to start posting these instructions in everu suburb dangerreports... but allow me to say that i am in ridley and it's not even near the point of having its danger level downgraded. -People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 20:52, 21 September 2007 (BST)
I can assume that you've at least tried to perform due-diligence first - and you haven't. If you don't know how to do an appendectomy don't stick your hands in a patient's guts. It's that simple. Since you're obviously only trying to troll the danger level down for some sort of trenchie crap, I don't feel the need to coddle you. The instructions are there and (unsurprisingly) are easy to find if you actually try looking.--Jorm 20:56, 21 September 2007 (BST)
What we had here was a problem of communication. I was reading the danger report page, which included no specifics to Ridleybank itself while you meant the suburb talk page, which did. At any rate, I think it's very easy to sit there and judge. I'll admit I was in a bad mood and being stubborn, but, God forbid people make mistakes because otherwise they're just idiots and noobs, right? People like you are why others don't ask for help anymore. Feel free to flame away in retaliation. I care not. Adrian Steiner 11:50, 22 September 2007 (CST)

VB

I'm not sure if you were talking to me there, but if you were, I'd like to say that I totally agree with you that this is not a decision that's within my power to make. The reason I commented on that case wasn't to boss the mods around or to proclaim that this is or is not vandalism, it was to make sure that the people who do have that power to make the decision have the relevant information more clearly laid out. --Toejam 00:58, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks from me in Rhodenbank

Hey Jorm, I just saw you bust into St. Alban's and I wanted to thank you. I don't know if you were in the Devonshire building when I stopped by to tip those 17 zombies about the buffet awaiting them inside St. Alban's, but I appreciate you taking the time to enjoy chewing on all of those undeveloped brains. --Twister1680 05:35, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

A question

Do the nexuswar wiki and the barhah forums suffer from the same levels of negative interpersonal interactions as this wiki? And if they don't, what do you think is the reason(s)? --Toejam 14:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I do not believe so. The NW Wiki definitely does not. I have a host of reasons why I think that is, but they fall into the following:
  • NWWiki is tightly controlled. There is no red-tape or beauracracy; it is ruled with an iron fist. There are no "Sysops"; they are administrators, and they have full authority to ban, warn, delete, move, or whatever without being required to swim through a sea of rules.
  • All wiki admins are appointed by me. There are no popularity contests.
  • There are official forums for Nexus War. This has moved the primary mechanism of player interaction from the wiki to the forums (in UD, the closest thing to an "official forum" is the wiki)
  • The NW forums have a series of moderators who, just like the wiki, have full autonomy. I have granted "Ultimate Powah" to a few individuals that I trust, and then they promote moderators as they see fit.
  • There is a "hidden" forum on the NW Forums where players can be mean and bitchy, but otherwise we try to keep it to a minimum in the public forums.
  • The forums at barhah.com tend to be group-specific forums. Thus, they are policed by their own membership, who don't want to "shit where they eat." Further, the moderation staff there, as well, has full autonomy.

This is not, however, me saying that the approach I have taken is better than Kevan's; it is merely different. There are a lot of headaches involved in running forums. I fully understand why K. has avoided them.--Jorm 20:56, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, interesting answer. --Toejam 17:15, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Regarding your Policy Suggestion

I happen to find it very amusing. In fact it brightened up my day. But the stupidity and frivolity of many of the people here frustrates me to no end. It seems to me that many users here use vandal banning as an excuse to tattle and stir up excitement, rather than actually benefit anyone else. In any case I'm sorry that you got dragged into a case like that over trying to add a little humor. Illusionist 07:55, 21 May 2008 (BST)

Help needed over malicious link

Hi Jorm, I have a problem that a malicious link was added to the wiki-news template, which you removed. I had already tried unsuccesfully to delete this link, as the person who put it on, User A helpless little gnome had replaced it. I then edited it to make it harmless. Since then User: SirArgo has accussed me of wiki vandalism and putting this malicious link on in the first place, which I did not do. The history will vindicate me: http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php?title=Template:Wiki_News&action=history Since then User: A helpful little gnome has put that malicious link back on the template, and locked it from editing (supposedly to protect from vandalism) What can I do to resolve this situation? I was trying to protect others from this person's actions. --Zuton 21:36, 18 August 2008 (BST)

Problem seems resolved now, User:SirArgo has noticed the history and realised that User:A Helpful Little Gnome is causing problems, and is trying to delete the accusation of wiki vandalism against him. Sorry for bothering you. --Zuton 21:44, 18 August 2008 (BST)

Sorry, ignore above, it isn't User:A Helpful Little Gnome but some malicious person who's creating multiple accounts.--Zuton 23:05, 18 August 2008 (BST)

Mayor

Your header wasn't there when I started editing. Maybe I spoke too soon! :P ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 06:33, 4 June 2010 (BST)

Are you running as a candidate for the Zombiecratic Party, or are you running as your own party. If you're running for the ZC party primary, you can just have your name as the header title, like Mis has done for the Harmanative. :P --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 09:56, 4 June 2010 (BST)

I am running for the Barhah party. I'm not really running, either. I already won.--Jorm 16:30, 4 June 2010 (BST)
Right, sorry, assumed you were going for Zombiecratic. I moved your party to the right place on the page.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:16, 4 June 2010 (BST)
"Major" means those two parties. That's how it was three years ago, that's how it is now.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:30, 4 June 2010 (BST)
