20070909 Newbie Friendly Barricades

Officer 123satsitx 21:34, 9 September 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Newb Help

Suggestion scope
Survivors below level 7

Suggestion description
Do you remember when you where a level one and you had just created your character? Do you remember checking on the wiki to see if a nearby building is VSB or below for you to enter, and then realizing (after you got there) that it was not, in fact, open to the public? Do you remember getting devoured by zombies while sleeping on the street?

Well now you can make this better for newbies! I propose that any survivor level 7 or below without free-running should have a new option to enter HB buildings or higher. RP reasons for this is that they're small and agile (being newbies) and can find a small, overlooked entrance that zombies cannot, of are to stupid to fit through. A button labeled "search for entrance" would be available to said newbies when standing outside HV, VHB, or EHB buildings. This option would have a set percent chance of working (Kevan can decide) that the newbie manages to crawl through a small hole in the wall or some such thing. They would than be inside the building. Each attempt costs 5 AP.

Clarification: I'm not saying newbies are smaller. That's just an example. Maybe they find a cellar that leads inside, or some other overlooked entrance.

Keep Votes

  1. keep - Level 4 or lower though. This is a good suggestion, but lvl 7 is too high. doc crook 21:49, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - Author vote. --Officer 123satsitx 22:09, 9 September 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - This is where we survivors need to work on metagaming, and communicating, and compliance with barricade plans, and tagging ABOUT barricade plans. Nalikill 21:52, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - Newbies are inexperienced...Not necessarily any particular physical dimensions. --Penta 21:55, 9 September 2007 (BST)
Re Okay, so they climb through a window or something. That's just an example.--Officer 123satsitx 22:11, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - I hate newbies. It's also the schizophrenic survivors fault for overbarricading. Quite realistic, actually. People panic, but then again its a video game... a text-based one also.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 21:56, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - Because I can vote without giving a reason.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 21:59, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  5. kill I never got any god damn barricades as a low level. Sockem 22:04, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill Makes no sense, and further is the fault of survivors that newbies have it hard, both living and dead. --Karlsbad 22:40, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - no. unenterable means unenterable --~~~~ [Talk] 22:45, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  8. I Don't Remember I began with FR. And besides, WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT TOO!!! FR doesn't let you enter any building, so we still need an entrance. Learn to save enough AP to find a safehouse. ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? Sep 9th, 2007 *20:38 MDT*
  9. Kill/Change - A low level character doesn't always mean a new player. This would open up a new way to sneak a disposable character inside (read: parachuting, but w/o free running). And at level 7, you could have a nice selection of zombie skills with which to attack and ransack with. To minimize the potential for abuse, why not let newbies climb the fences at junkyards (only) until they reach level 5 or buy free running (whichever comes first)? --Uncle Bill 07:13, 10 September 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - If you get stuck outside...find another building! I've never gotten stuck outside because I'm smart; I use the Wiki resources and metagame maps to find VS buildings. Also, what if a PKer created a firefighter character? They could enter pretty much anywhere and kill anyone. --Hhal 12:02, 10 September 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill - Inexperienced? You die. Inexperienced but smart? You save AP, find a safehouse and live. Inexperienced, smart but had bad luck? Well, you'll know better for the next time. Death is what this game is all about. Staszyk 14:09, 10 September 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Huh? New players are smaller? You do realize that when people go up levels they don't actualy physicaly grow, right? Unless the only food still available is, like fast food or doughnuts or something...--Seventythree 22:07, 9 September 2007 (BST)
Re Okay, so they climb through a window or something. That's just an example.--Officer 123satsitx 22:11, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - For three reasons. First, I don't buy the flavor. I see you've revised 'newbies are smaller' to 'they climb through a window or cellar', which makes more sense. Surely, though, wouldn't the more experienced players would be better at finding hidden or overlooked entrances? Secondly, it's one-sided. There are a lot of newbie zombies as well, who if anything have it even worse than new survivors, and this suggestion makes it a lot harder for them to level up. It's not fair to help one set of beginners by harming another set. Finally, you need to submit a fully-crafted suggestion. If percentages are involved, state them. The success rate of this proposed skill is a vital aspect which people will want to consider when voting. Please don't just say "Kevan can decide". -- Pavluk A! 22:27, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  3. The barricade plans were all working fine in the past...now look at it...with all these new players and the old players disappearing, the barricade plans have gone to hell... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 00:49, 10 September 2007 (BST)
  4. spam pavluk said it all. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 05:06, 10 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Spam - It is more difficult to play when you are a newbie, but please don't tell me that newbies are mentally handicapped and therefore need a separate entrance. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 07:57, 10 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Spam - Lets make it even easier to get barricade zergs into malls. --The Grimch U! 14:02, 10 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Spam - I can positively state that neither of my two survivor characters have EVER been stuck outside (one fireman, one NT...I didn't start with freerun). Not when I started them. Not after the change to Ruin. NEVER. I didn't even start using the wiki until about a week after I started playing. I STILL don't use the wiki for barricade information. I figured out pretty quickly which building types tend to be VSB and which tend to be EHB. Need to get inside? Look for churches and hospitals. Don't even bother with NTs, malls, and junkyards (WTF?!?! Junkyards? Seriously, they all seem to be EHB...anyone else ever notice this?). --Steakfish 06:02, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  8. Spam - as above.--Karekmaps?! 08:02, 11 September 2007 (BST)
