EW/Brooksey
Hey, i appreciate your skepticism regarding survivor presence in eastonwood but i assure you Brooke Hills is not a ghost town. Small pockets are ruined but the majority of the suburb is in great shape. It is Lacking in both a large survivor and zombie presence, however when over 50% of the buildings in the burb at at EHB it's hard to argue a case for ghost town.--J3DSR! 13:07, 15 September 2008 (BST)
- sadly the barricades have nothing to do with Ghost Towns. It's all about the number of survivors and zombies and Brooke Hills doesn't have much of both. --Experiment211 20:41, 16 September 2008 (BST)
- I'm not sure where you're doing your research or if you are zombie/human and i don't want to give too much away (for obvious reasons :P) but i assure you there are multiple buildings with 3-5 survivors in them, one building i saw with over 5 survivors, one building powered (alluding to a survivor presence) as well as a smattering of buildings with one survivor in them. In addition to that there was one horde of 10 zombies...nothing huge but certainly not a ghost town.--xoxo 05:06, 17 September 2008 (BST)

Suburb Groups.
Im pretty much against removing them for a number of reasons. They are.
- Advertising helps those smaller groups, people looking for help often look at the maps first, recruitment as a page is not as high profile as it should be.
- Its the only place on the wiki were you can find out this information simply and i feel its logical
- I'd hate to remove the historical groups.
- They are a lot more reflective than they used to be.
Ive been bouncing ideas round for a month or so and I was thinking about alternatives.
These include.
Subpages. Active groups are listed on a separate page, for instance Vinetown/groups
The lists of groups on sub pages link not to the group page, but rather their advert, this would give recruitment a much needed boost as a visited page, plus it would make updating the system easier. Advert expired? Remove the group from the suburb.
Group links being timestamped on the suburb pages.
All groups in a suburb being removed every x months.
--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 18:29, 1 October 2008 (BST)
- Hmm yeah, i'm previously been a proponent of them and it was Nick and me who got the ball rolling on splitting the list into survivor/PKer/zombie :D But with this latest White Cell 6 thing (spammed a group of under 10 members onto 39 suburb pages) and an argument arising about whether or not my group should be allowed on the Eastonwood page despite being the most influential survivor group in the suburb at the time, i figured the list could be removed and as well as the recruitment page (which could be given more high profile links to increase traffic), groups that wanted to be on the suburb page could simply make occasional news updates (see Brooke Hills for an example by my group). This would actually give other people an idea of who is involved in the suburb rather than simply whose group begins with an A...anyway thanks for letting me know your opinion, i don't think i care enough to bother doing anything about it by myself.. :P --xoxo 01:38, 2 October 2008 (BST)

If I can be serious for a moment...
I'm considering mounting another case for you to be a Sysop, sometime after the HSC. With Grim obviously on the way down and out, I feel as if you could provide the link to the people that he lacked. At your last application, I really think that Grim neglected getting in contact with boxy, ignored the rousing vote of confidence you got from the public, just so he could rule no bingo against you without interruption.
So, based on the public adoration you received last time, your much improved track record as of late, and the loss of the Wiki overlord coming in no time at all, I feel you would be the perfect candidate to take the wiki in a new, SysOp-User relationship based direction.
Of course, you would need to be ok with this. I'd probably start writing it up right after HSC so in about a month or so, and I would use the last case and Grims treatment of you as evidence etc.
What you think?--CyberRead240 10:08, 8 October 2008 (BST)
- I think i may have said on Grim's talk page i have no real interest in nominating myself, BUT if i had the support of my many, many adoring fans across this great wiki of ours, it's not something i'd say no to. Of course as all great politicians, i'd need a competent speech writer...--xoxo 10:10, 8 October 2008 (BST)

- The first thing i will do is apologise to the original inhabitants of this great wiki, my speech should be approximately 45 minutes long enough, just long enough so i can insert naughty words in it and no one's paying attention so they don't notice. That's right krudd...i'm onto you...

Dakerstown danger
According to EMRP - 21:27, 11 October 2008 (BST) "... leaving Dakerstown, counted about sixty outside ... a few big groups, but they're spread out ... a lot of buildings with lights on ... only a few buildings damaged ... the Pask Building has lights on ..." (18 hours and 18 minutes ago)
That's 60 zombies outside 5 days ago and we've got 44 outside Pask NT up from 20 just 3 days ago. The town is cade strafed but sparsely populated with breathers who hold Swearse PD and Barts Hospital, maybe 50 Beerhah crew plus local FUACK and some communists. If/when the NT falls it's usually a bloodbath. I have no problems upgrading this burb to Danger, how about you? --Zeug 19:02, 16 October 2008 (BST)
- Thing thing is, for survivors (which is the perspective the danger map takes) it's not dangerous really. If you sleep in a cade straffed building you stand an excellent chance of not being killed coz all the zombies are at Pask. As for Pask, it's holding very well. So yeah no real danger there. For me as a survivor by far teh biggest danger is PKing. But yeah it will be 50 zombies soon probably so meh, if you want it dangerous you can have it. I suggest you send a few zeds to knock out some more buildings though.--xoxo 05:21, 17 October 2008 (BST)
- We've got just over 50 zeds standing and prone outside Pask now, and I'm just going on the danger report guidelines. I'm fine if yellow alert sends more feral brains into DK, we need them to feed and attract more feral zombies. And yes it's a nice Beerhah lock down at the moment so n00bs will be safe for a bit but that's my point ... encouraging survivors to go there is just setting them up as meatshields once the siege really gets underway. And once Pask goes it's a free for all brains fest! So it's a funny kind of 'safe' in DK at the moment, more a dangerous lull until Extinction builds the ferals to a decent number.--Zeug 06:12, 17 October 2008 (BST)

- K, thanks for the heads up, i checked the page for some sort of policy and in the absence of one (and being aware you can withdraw a case) i figured i'd just remove it, it's in the histories so it's not like "zomgz he's changing history". I don't have to or feel remotely inclined to justify or explain why i wanted to withdraw the case to you, however i will restore it since apparently that's the way these things are done. Mind updating the a/m page so that this is clear to all users? --xoxo 05:47, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

- Error of my ways??? Hardly. I wanted that case withdrawn, i wasn't aware of the correct process. Instead of waving a/vb in my face you could have just archived the page (didn't need a sysop as my desire to have it withdrawn was abundantly clear) and put a note on my talk page. Either way i guess you did let me know (regardless of your motives for doing so) so thanks for that. --xoxo 05:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- If you'll just take a look at the archive pages in question you'll notice that they're protected. So no, I couldn't have "just archived the page". Only sysops can, which is why the current system is in place. As for you not being aware of how it works: my previous point about that not being an excuse aside, surely common sense would steer you away from simply deleting everything? --HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS 06:04, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Arbitration Ruling
Thanks, J3D. That's exactly the outcome I was hoping for. :) Aside from that, how's you? Haven't talked to you for a while on IRC. (Like I said, my compy was out of commission. :P)
-S Aline 02:32, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
It has already begun:
Our esteemed arbitrator said: "Thus there will be a new section on the page headed Groups or Mansion Groups or whatever under which people can post their groups name and a short (one line max) blurb about whatever they want"
S Aline wrote: "Southall Mansion will always be considered an important place for The Upper Left Corner. It was one of the stops on The Keane Pilgrimage, since it is a ULC historical landmark."
Two sentences. Can I drag her ass to A/VB yet?
Also can I have the following clarified, do we really need a level three header for each group? With a minimum of five groups to go on it's going to get really crowded and ugly real quick. Can I suggest you making the ruling state "One line paragraph under the group heading, organised in alphabetical order"? -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 09:57, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Holy fucking shit, are you seriously going to try and A/VB them over that? Almost-incomprehensible analness aside, it isn't even correct. "One line" means just that, one line. It says nothing about number of sentences. --HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS 10:00, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have a widescreen monitor and it still wraps round onto two lines, your point? -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 10:01, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

- I have a widescreen monitor and it still wraps round onto two lines, your point? -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 10:01, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah i said one line and while it does go over two lines that's because of what's to the right of it. If it gets messy i'll clean it up, it's not messy at the moment so the level 3 heading can stay. --xoxo 10:15, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Sysop Bid
It actually dissapoints me that self professed wiki veterans cannot see the difference between a VB case ruled Not Vandalism, and one ruled Vandalism. Somehow it means the same thing to them. It is fucking stupid. Especially Boxy and Karek. Both of those recommendations are seemingly transparent, with no base. Yet somehow they feel they have the right to let it be known in some sort of public speel. I like what you did with Kareks vote too, nice one.--CyberRead240 04:03, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Matt Aries
For someone running for sysop I expect at least the most basic of checks to be done before taking someone to A/VB. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 04:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- I did the basic checks. Page history and edit summaries and then i a/vb-ed him and spoke to him on his talk page. I could have researched however as i mentioned i thought it likely he'd recently left the group (or vandal in the account or whatever), i wasn't in the position to judge, so i didn't. I reported vandalism and contacted the user on the talk page, exactly what one is supposed to do.--xoxo 04:07, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- He's the leader of the group, if he chooses to leave he's allowed to kill it, if he hasn't left, he's still allowed to kill it. There can never be a vandalism case against a group leader for doing whatever the hell they like to their group pages excepting porn or malicious links/code. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 04:11, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- No, he can't delete or blank the page. Crit 12 is gone and if others contribute to the page it is no longer just an author edit.--– Nubis NWO 04:15, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

- The LoD page didn't mention him as the leader, neither did his talk page. It stated him as one of two orginal founders, this made it sound, to an outsider, that there had been some potential fallout. Regardless of that a group page belongs to the group, not a single person. Since we cannot definitively say who created the page claiming owners privilege is tenuous at best.--xoxo 04:17, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

The Verdict
Right, after some discussion, Gnome and myself has decided to promote you to sysop. The only sticking point we hit was A/VB. Because of that, we think that you should avoid dealing with it for a while and not dive head-first into it. By all means deal with active vandal sprees and the like but try not to get too embroiled in it, okay?
Aside from that, welcome to the sysop team. They are some lovely new buttons above your page now. Protect protects and unprotects stuff. Delete deletes stuff and move moves stuff. If you need to undelete, go to the deleted page and view the deleted edits and then restore the ones you think appropriate. Banning is done by using a block link. You can find them in the toolbox on the left when you're on a user page and also on VB reports. Oh and in recent changes if needbe. You've got Rollback as well, that undos all edits by a certain user. Useful if a vandal's made several edits to the same page in a row. Be careful with it though. I wiped out half my user page revisions by trying to undo a mistake with it. =p
In any case, you get stuck give us a shout. Congratulations etc and be good! -- Cheese 22:40, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- PS: Sorry for epically fucking up your page. =/ My browser broke half way through and restored the page at the wrong point. -- Cheese 22:41, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
And now I say congratulations. Just remember, Big Brother is watching...Well, no, not really. Its just us. And we don't really do much anyway. The Sysops even less than the rest of us sometimes.-- dǝǝɥs oʇ ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 23:28, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
I like you and all but you have to know you're going to catch hell for those two idiots promoting you when the community was against it and you're going to deserve it unless you actually show judgment in stepping down until you can be promoted by the community and not by an 'crat with no experience that got the position because he was "safe" and a 'crat who didn't even know he could refuse your promotion. I'd congratulate you but there's nothing to congratulate except for skating around the system in the worst promotion decision to date, you're not ready and haven't shown any leanings towards being ready or needing to be promoted. I guess the one humorous bit is that the guy who promoted you was the single least prepared sysop we've ever had and has shown time and again why that's a bad thing with his constant screw ups, sadly a promotion that should have been legitimate one day in the future has been stained and added to that bunch.--Karekmaps?! 00:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Karek. You've once again shown you have no idea who the community of this wiki is. The community elected gnome and cheese crats because they like them and presumably like the decisions they make. Now you want me to step down because community elected officials promoted me?? Also while i am fully aware a/pm isn't a vote, it must be said i had more vouchs then abstains and againsts combined, once again suggesting i do in fact have community support. --xoxo 00:10, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- I want you to step down because that would show good judgment. The great joke about that would be that if you stepped down you would actually end up with the support of pretty much all the people who were against you this time around. More than that the Sysops who for the most part did not think you were ready and were ignored. And more than that no name users and your buddies do not count as community support no matter how much you wish it so, they aren't part of the community and have no idea who you are beyond that you're not a major hassle to them. Don't step down, by all means blunder about just to prove me wrong and glory in this non-existant community support you have. Congrats... now don't fuck things up by being biased in favour of the 2 numb nuts idiots or this "no name" user will stop being your "Buddy" and hunt you down ;)--Honestmistake 14:10, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Congratulations on being promoted... I'm neutral towards you since I haven't been here long enough to form an opinion about you, but I just wanted to stop by and say good luck as a sysop. --Pestolence(talk) 01:45, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I also give my congratulations to you, Jed. Although I'm also neutral (like Pestolence,) I wish you the best of luck. Linkthewindow Talk 00:06, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks all :) --xoxo 00:11, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Demotions of sysops
If you are serious about working on a policy for this might I suggest you glance over my manifesto, err, thoughts :) put up here. Particularly the idea of reviewing their contributions instead of just a blanket vote. I dislike the idea of a general vote, but you can't deny the usefulness of actually looking at what sysop work/wiki work they do. You might also want to reorganize your talk page into a sysop section and a general section so people know where to post things so you can follow up on them.
You do realize that coming in as a new sysop and throwing out a demotion policy right away might come across as trying to kick out existing Ops (coups only happen when you reach Crat level, by the way, you overachiever! ) Feel free to adapt/steal anything on there you like, too.--– Nubis NWO 15:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- heh, yeah i knew my plans to look down this path wouldn't reflect too well. If i didn't get op it would have looked even worse (bitter). I'll catch up on all this reading i've been supplied with over the next week. I like my talk page the way it is! It shall not be changed. I might get my hands on one of those 'this user is a sysop' templates though.--xoxo 23:23, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Please do pay attention to the page Nubis links... he makes a lot of sense and does know his stuff! I think we do need a method to demote sysops but am very wary of a popularity vote, i may have a rep as being "anti sysop" but its mostly imaginary and i actually think they do a good job (even if they are a bit too reactionary!), the last thing we need is a system to get rid of them that is based purely on popularity and has no bearing on what they actually do. Personally i would like to change the definition of a sysop and the list of abilities that come with that title but i can't see that happening!--Honestmistake 00:51, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oh thanks. What changes did you have in mind, Honest? Any shift in the responsibilities one way or the other would have a bit of a negative reaction. Too much more work and the problem is no one is "paid" to do this and adding more responsibilities means more areas unhappy users can "attack" you in and taking away responsibilities means less of a reason to get promoted. There would be little incentive to do extra to earn the promotion if everything you can do is done by regular users. And if you are only getting promoted to mess with A/VB then those aren't the types of sysops we should allow in power.
- I would like to see more specialization and "ownership" of certain areas. While all sysops can do all tasks if you have a sense of "ownership" of an area you are more inclined to keep an eye on it and work to improve it. (as you well know with ALiM) I feel that way toward images and templates since I put in several hours on them both. As long as the sysop isn't anal about every little thing and overly possessive I see this idea as a good thing. Just my 55 cents worth.--– Nubis NWO 13:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Actually the concept of specialization is one i think would work extremely well. For example i would strongly back giving you additional powers/scope for dealing with images and template because i think you do know a lot more about them than most others. Similarly i don't think authority over A/VB should be an automatic feature of sysophood as that requires a different sort of trust in judgement to pretty much anywhere else. --Honestmistake 14:41, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Nice.
Funny thing, I only did it because I had Santlerville and SantLUEville open in two tabs next to one another, and I thought it would make a good contrast. (It does.) --Insomniac By Choice 12:21, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
