Aichon
To cut to the chase, I'm resigning both as a 'crat and sysop effective 23:59 November 30th, 2018 (edit: see below). I plan to process my own demotion at that time and will not be a candidate in the resulting 'crat election.
I know this will come as an unexpected surprise to most of you, which is why I'm announcing it now rather than at the last moment, but hopefully it's not too much of a surprise to anyone. After all, I stopped playing the game well over a year ago, so it was really only a matter of time. And after I very nearly quit earlier this year, which some of you noticed at the time, the writing has kinda been on the wall.
My running for 'crat in this last election—despite my six-year tradition of withdrawing from every election—is a way for me to perform one final act of service to the wiki before I bow out for good. So for those of you on Discord and elsewhere who have been wondering what changed and why I decided to run in the election this time, now you know.
Once my term is up, I'm gone, so now's the time to hit me up (on my talk page) for assistance with any pet projects you may have on the wiki or whatnot. This may also be the time to push through some A/PM applications. Just sayin'. ;)
UD has been a part of my life for nearly a decade now, and it's been both my privilege and pleasure to serve the wiki community for the vast majority of that time. It's encouraging to see the wiki being continually maintained, not just by a small team of sysops, but also by an active team of regular wiki users who are routinely fixing formatting, updating danger reports, answering questions, and engaging with one another on talk pages in an effort to improve the wiki as a whole. Keep up the good work, all! —Aichon— 18:52, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the (very advance) heads up, Aichon! I'll be sorry to see you go, but completely understand your reasoning.
- One question: Would you consider resigning effective 0:01, December 15th? That way you can administer the election/promote your successor, rather than us having only a single crat for that two-week period (I trust Stelar not to pull a Thad, but don't want her, or anybody, to be stuck with the crat job alone for that long). Bob Moncrief EBD•W! 13:34, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
- I’ll consider it, certainly. My thinking was that I’d disrupt things the least if my departure triggered an election at the same time we were due for an election anyway, but I can see the argument for seeing the election through. No promises, but I’ll give it some more consideration as we get closer. —Aichon— 13:50, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
- Following up on this, I'll see the election through. Doing so is the last duty of any 'crat, after all. With that in mind, I'm amending my demotion to be effective as soon as this upcoming 'crat election ends. —Aichon— 16:58, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- We will have to drag this election out for as long as possible. And use every legal and illegal trick available to sneak in Aichon as a crat candidate. -- Spiderzed▋ 00:51, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- I was just going through your options in my head, but I'm pretty sure I've got them all covered. I can initiate the election myself if no one else does and I can end it myself if Stelar suddenly disappears, even if there's something odd like a three-way tie. You might try something out-of-band, such as a baseless Misconduct case against me to drag things out, but I'll just ignore it (or enjoy the fact that you've hastened my departure, if it's found to have merit) since I'm leaving anyway. :P —Aichon— 15:59, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- New plan: all (or all but one) of us withdraw instantly upon the opening of the election, so Aichon (and one other person, whoever can't make the prescheduled time) is elected crat by acclamation. Bob Moncrief EBD•W! 23:54, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Backup plan: meatpuppet to ensure a tie. When its up to Aichon and Stelar to decide, Stelar goes AFK and if Aichon chooses without consultation we misconduct him, leave the case open indefinitely and if he self-demotes we force promote his account back. THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 11:56, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- Or... we just have me as a lone 'crat for a whole term?? Surely something like that can't go wrong? :P stelar Talk|MCM|EBD|Scourge 12:23, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- Even if I win the election in some weird way, I’ll simply demote myself, thus triggering another election, which was my original plan to begin with, if you’ll recall. And if Stelar goes AFK, the Misconduct case for promoting a replacement wouldn’t have any merit and I would have faithfully discharged my duties, so I could leave with a clear conscience quite easily. Besides which, there’s nothing stopping a ‘crat from casting a tie breaking vote at the last moment. ;) —Aichon— 16:53, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

- no. stay. i'm the one who leaves. 18:58, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
- I'm extremely sad to see this. A ZOMBIE ANT 06:41, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- Nope. Sadness not allowed. Out with the old, in with the new. This is a change for the better. —Aichon— 17:33, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- Will you still remain around within the community in some capacity? THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 00:03, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- Afraid not. The wiki is the only part of the community I still check. I lost interest in IRC when I went inactive in-game. The Barhah forum died. The Philosophe Knights forum died. The SoC migrated to Discord. I stopped bothering with Discord. You get the picture. I mean, it’s not like I’ll refuse to post on the wiki if someone shoots me a question on my talk page, but I don’t lurk around any forums or channels right now, and I don’t plan to start doing so once I drop the wiki from my daily routine in December. —Aichon— 06:35, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Oh man! Sorry to hear this, but I understand completely. Please email me when you leave with the most effective way to permanently break UDWIKI. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 21:32, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- I have so many ideas. So far, the best I've come up with could be undone by a sufficiently technical sysop, but I'll see if I can come up with something that'd require a rollback of the database, at a minimum. —Aichon— 18:06, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Sent. While I couldn't come up with anything truly permanent (aside from literally hacking something in an illegal fashion), I did come up with some methods that would persist beyond a simple database rollback, so I'm pretty proud of myself. Be sure to credit me if you ever use any of them. —Aichon— 16:04, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

That's okay. I'll just create an impersonation account and pretend to be you. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 21:12, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
