20070615 Mark Scent (modified)

~m T! 22:51, 15 June 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Skill

Suggestion scope
Zombies with Scent Trail

Suggestion description
Thank you all for your comments on the original suggestion. I have now made some changes (which are in bold) and posted it again, and I hope you like.

I propose a new skill, under Scent Trail, entitled Mark Scent. This would display an in-game dropdown menu pretty much like Flailing Gesture does, like this:

Mark Scent
dropdown menu with survivor names

Note that the dropdown displays only survivors you could normally target, plus a "clear selection" option. When you mark a survivor, he gets the following message:

A zombie took a long sniff at you (1 hour and 3 pizzas ago)

(or something like that)

When a survivor has been marked, the skill will also display another action, like this:

Scent
<marked survivor name>

When you click the scent button, you will get a message saying

<marked survivor name> is y blocks N/S, x blocks E/W

as long as the survivor is still alive and within a 9x9 block centered around the zombie. If the survivor dies, or leaves range, you will lose his trail. You don't, however, lose the trail when you die. I did not, however, thought of the occasion of being revived. My take is you do lose the survivor's trail if you're revived. By then, you probably would anyway, but I don't know why a survivor would keep track of someone's scent (even tho you wouldn't be able to track the person anyway because it's a zombie skill).

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author vote. Nice flavour for vengeful zombies, or with favourite enemies. ~m T! 22:51, 15 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - I like it. --User:Axe27/Sig 00:39, 16 June 2007 (BST)

  4. Keep - I like it. --The Hierophant 00:50, 16 June 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - Very nice! I can't see any balance issues with this. One question though: does the zombie specifically have to find a survivor and click "Mark Scent", or does the survivor have to disturb the zombie? --Hhal 02:24, 16 June 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - As long as you specify how much time "a pizza ago" represents </joke>. Changes were made where they were needed, so... =) --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 02:44, 16 June 2007 (BST)

  19. YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL IT'S TRUEEEEEEE!!! - This is like... THE perfect zombie skill!! CONGARTURLATIONS!!! --Bruce Torbaron 02:28, 20 June 2007 (BST)
  20. Keep -- I still have a hard time taking this one seriously because of the mental imagery it inspires, but OK. -- Firemanrik 22:43, 20 June 2007 (BST)
  21. Keep - Not open to harassment since you can't use it to repeatedly kill anyone (since the trail is lost when they die), should make things a little more interesting than just randomly flailing around until you find what building they're hiding in. Saluton, with regards to zombies being drawn to survivor safehouses, that's the whole point - and what would you call Feeding Groan if not exactly that? --Pestilent Bob 19:39, 22 June 2007 (BST)
  22. Keep - I agree with Saluton's idea for the deodorant to counteract this a little, but otherwise, this sounds like it would be a good addition to the game. --Howard Bentley 18:54, 25 June 2007 (BST)
  23. Keep - I'm not worried about zombie X-ray. Finding survivors isn't the problem, getting through barricades is. This could be interesting to use for zombies.-- Vista  +1  19:05, 28 June 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - And where one survivor goes, others may follow. This amounts to x-ray vision, in that it would allow zombies to find which buildings have survivors in them, to some extent. Add in a way for survivors to negate this - deodorant found in a mall, say - so that it can be avoided to some extent. --Saluton 16:00, 16 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill -As Saluton. --AlexanderRM 16:24, 22 June 2007 (BST)
