20070717 Vehicles

Suggestion type
Alternative to free running
Suggestion scope
Humans
Suggestion description
Cars are a way to travel efficiently over open terrain giving humans more of a reason to travel in open territory.
Players need to search an area to find a vehicle 60% chance of finding a usable car in a carpark 30% chance of finding a working car on a street
To use a car players must have a fuel can. It takes 4AP to refuel a car and start it. Cars can be refilled while in them if players have more than 1 fuel can but it takes 4AP Players can then make 10 moves using zero AP players can only drive on non building squares (can drive though monuments and parks)
clicking on a building gives the message "you pull up outside <name> and the engine stalls use 1ap to restart the car or get out" getting out of the car uses 1ap driving into a square containing a zombie gives a similar message "you crash into a zombie, the engine stalls..."
you can get out of a car at any time for 1ap
Advantages i can think of
This gives players 10 moves for the price of 5 (4 to get in an start the car 1 to get out) across open terrain, good for traveling distances, means groups can monitor their territory more easily,
encourages people to go outside for traveling instead of free running through buildings, more people on the streets is better for zombie characters.
adds more disadvantage to over barricading buildings.
Disadvantages
might be a little complicated to implement, not sure
players might be able to run away from zombies more easily - not sure this is a disadvantage, it would be hard to do, zombies could block streets and its better for zombies if people try and escape this way rather than free running

Keep Votes
- keepThis is a great idea but I think that you need to make a few improvements--Timo 1 08:05, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Keep Revise, it is a very good idea. But you need more description to it. Doc Crook 11:00, 19 July 2007 (BST)
Kill Votes
- -- Close, really close to something I would vote keep on, but should a single change be made I would be fine with it. Make it require a fuel can to use (E.G. Move the 10 squares), then I would vote keep on this idea... --Lord Evans 07:46, 17 July 2007 (BST)s
- Re-- It does require a fuel can to use.--Wee Sonny MacGregor 04:40, 19 July 2007 (BST)
- kill I like it,\ its a lot better than most vehicle suggestion but... Perhaps a new skill allowing you to fix it first (same AP cost ) Also the buildings are supposed to be representative of the majority type or just the most distinctive in the block, there are still streets there so why no driving on them? Oh yeah and just a personal preference but i prefer motorcycles as vehicles! They use less fuel are easier to maintain are easier to manuever round debris and just seem a lot more apocalyptic ;) --Honestmistake 10:19, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Kill The only veachles that should be present in Malton are: 1) Flying cars, a-la bladerunner/5th element, 2) Jetpacks and 3) Flying monkey carriges. anyhting else is just silly.--Seventythree 11:05, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Not a bad suggestion, well thought out. Only problem is, UD is not a game to involve vehicles. I mean, in one day's worth of AP you can get halfway across the quarantine zone. That's already pretty good, is it not? --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 11:41, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Kill - The problem with vehicles is that they are designed to reduce the amount of energy (AP) to move around. Since there are no free lunches, they would not work in UD. Maybe if the percentages of finding a car was lower, or if they mainly provided a portable barricaded building, with space for only a few people, and otherwise cost much more then walking, they might be able to work. --Saluton 17:49, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Nice idea, but needs a lot of work. It could cost 1AP to attempt to repair a car, and maybe 1AP to fuel it, but it should not cost 4AP just to fuel it. Also, why are people crashing all the time? They should be able to drive on blocks with buildings, and they should not automatically crash just because there is one zombie there. Maybe if they had a chance of crashing proportional to the number of zombies. And wouldn't crashing hurt a zombie? This idea may be too complicated for UD. --Pdeq 04:19, 18 July 2007 (BST)
- Kill. I don't understand how cars would be accounted for in the interface. If you find a car, does it go into your inventory? Can you have more than one? Do they get left behind outside buildings? Can other players see/take/destroy them? The basic idea (cars!) is fine, but I just don't see HOW you think they'll work. Grant 15:10, 18 July 2007 (BST)
- Kill - we've had better suggestions already on this subject. Those generally didn't make it either.-- Vista +1 12:36, 19 July 2007 (BST)
- Bandwagon kill And since when the shit was "spam" a "strong kill"? Glenstone 04:24, 26 July 2007 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam/Dupe - vehicles are suggested quite often. For example here is one of the oldest vehicle suggestions. Yours is quite good comparing to some of them, but has the same old problem - "working cars are out of genre" --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 08:49, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Eat some turkey bones, I hear they are quite tasty.--karek 09:42, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - There have been alot of these types of suggestions as Duke pointed out, and many others above have made valid points as well --Ryiis 14:54, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Here is a suggestion that was even better than this one. --Sonny Corleone RRF CoL DORIS CRF pr0n 16:47, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - No vehicles. They're too complicated and according to your stats every human in the game would have one. Buff to humans, blah blah blah. Also, why does everything suggested have to take multiple AP? An action should be worth one action, not two hours worth. --Heavy DDR 18:22, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - No.-- dǝǝɥs oʇ ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 20:52, 17 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam/Dupe - As Duke, and others. 'arm. 07:14, 18 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Can we run over the zombie hordes too? I'm sure the sieges at malls would be much better if you could just cut through 100 zombies with a car at once.--Druuuuu 19:12, 20 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - as above. And actually, if you killed everyone outside in a siege, it would help. 50% chance of 6AP waste < 100% chance of 1 AP waste.--Wooty 23:19, 25 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Hahahahahaha.... NO! --Charley C. 22:54, 29 July 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Good suggestion, but I don't really think it will fit in the UD. Its a spam since vehicles have been suggested so many times--Sachaztan 09:37, 31 July 2007 (BST)
