Camera and photographer skills

Suggestion type
New item and skill
Suggestion scope
Surviors with tagging
Suggestion description
This is a little suggestion for all the dead rising fans. Cameras would be found in malls in tech shops, or by less effective searches on streets. The camera itself would work similar to a spray can, with a certain number of uses and customizable caption, the picture taken itself, would be either a screen shot off the map, or a text description of the survivors and/or zombies currently within the camera users square. The pictures themselves would be added to your inventory with a 2% encumbrance and be basically useless you had a "photographer" or for a truer tribute "freelancer" skill, which would be an offshoot of tagging. The survivor using the camera would gain 3 to-5 xp for a picture taken depending on what they took, examples are large groups of zombies outside building (large as in 20 or more), pkr's doing they're dirty work, zombie attacks, or maybe a group of survivors last stand,or triumphant victory, all of this depending on what game messages are up when you use your camera such as
"johnny mczombiekiller shot a zombie for 5 hp"
or
"a group of 65 zombies are outside of Mitchem mall"
if a message was on screen like that, you could take a picture and gain the xp bonus.
It would give newer players a chance to get XP easier, It would give older players incentive to go and risk their necks to get that perfect snapshot, and personally would add a new level of interactivity for me

Keep Votes
- Keep - I love DeadRising, so I find this suggestion cool. Also, this would probably make experienced players trying to get a good picture of many zombies attacking a mall also stay there and help out for even more EXP. --MikhailA 20:59, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Keep - I think there's still room for a suggestion like this. As to technical details, the whole system might indeed work much like Iwitness does- but by keeping the code "in game", Kevan could make things MUCH more efficient (though iwtiness uses suprisingly little bandwidth and storage space now) and also add verification features (via hashing / digital signature) to ensure that the "photos" are in fact of valid game events. I'd be happy to expand on the technical details on the talk page.
And while eliminating the spoof-ability of screen shots and Iwitness would seem the main use of this suggestion, I think the idea of awarding XP is very good, and a "reporter" class might be an obvious feature to implement along with this suggestions features. Swiers 13:16, 5 September 2007 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Change - I like the idea of the XP gain from doing this. iWitness and good old "PrtScr", whilst being enormously useful, don't give you XP. This would add another dimension to Urban Dead, which is always good. I can imagine zombie groups having a contest to set the "biggest horde in one photo" record, etc.
However, the suggestion isn't complete. You provide a number of possible implementations - "the picture taken itself, would be either a screen shot off the map, or a text description of the survivors and/or zombies currently within the camera users square" - which is not good. Take it to Talk:Suggestions and finish it, then bring it back here. -- Pavluk 23:39, 4 September 2007 (BST) - Amen - I like what Pavluk said. BoboTalkClown 23:49, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Delightfully quirky, but... photographs arn't that heavy (100 photographs prevent you from moving?), taking photographs wouldn't plausibly help one gain skills, and this breaks pretty far from the spirit of the game. Humans arn't on a safari, they're trying to survive. What's next, musical instruments? --Pgunn 02:13, 5 September 2007 (BST)
- Weird, and maybe worth some discussion time. Seems a little jumbled and incomplete right now.--Pesatyel 02:35, 5 September 2007 (BST)
- Kill - It's almost a dupe of this suggestion already in peer reviewed, only this one isn't finished. Please use the suggestions talk page to fine tune suggestions before putting them up for voting The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talk • contribs) at 03:37 5 September 2007 (BST)
- Kill - iwitness; the benefits part of suggestion needs reworking --~~~~ [Talk] 08:45, 5 September 2007 (BST)
- Change - I think you should make the camera hard to fined. That way people won't say it's cheesy, but that one-in-fifty survivors can take pictures. Just think about it, there's one or two guys taking pictures while everyone is killing zombies then everyone taking pictures and only three or four killing. This way it is something more like adding character to certain survivors, than a bunch of tourists walking around. I'm guessing 74%. Might seem like a lot, but if you really want one it's there.--Happy 21:129 5 September 2007 (BST)
- Kill - as duke garland.-- Vista +1 11:40, 6 September 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Because I just don't think it would make my gaming more fun. --8 Bucks 21:27, 12 September 2007 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - This would require a lot of coding and doesn't seem to add much to the game, apart from a way to get xp without helping other survivors, either directly or indirectly.Studoku 21:51, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- As above...and...are we even suppose to vote for this suggestion? It's in the wrong format... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:17, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Spam-o-licious - Pointless. Use "PrtScr" or, better yet, Iwitness to take pictures. Real pictures. And if you're that into the RP aspect (and that's what this is about, ultimately) then more power to you... now collect scoops and write for one of your local newspapers, there are several in town -- not even mentioning the suburb news pages.... --WanYao 22:45, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Spam - I've got to say, with Iwitness this would be rather redundant.--Seventythree 23:12, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- S^P^A^M Above. Nalikill 23:26, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Harmanz need to specialize in one trade, not try them all. You complain about toolbox sizes yet you run around with loaded shotguns, FAKs, syringes, gennys, and fuel and expect us to take you seriously? Pick one damn job. Photography during the apocalypse is not a good one. --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 23:28, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Survivors are mostly 'feral', so most survivors must be jacks of all trades- the staunchest medic must still carry a few guns, the most dedicated scientist a fire axe, etcetera.Nalikill 03:44, 5 September 2007 (BST) Non-author re The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talk • contribs) at 03:52 5 September 2007 (BST)
- Spam - This game is about surviving, not art class. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 23:41, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Screw it. I'm not giving a reason for the rest of my votes in this spree.-- dǝǝɥs oʇ ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 17:36, 9 September 2007 (BST)
