20071018 Barricade Text Change
Vkkhamul 02:13, 18 October 2007 (BST)
Suggestion type
Text change (no change to game mechanics)
Suggestion scope
Anyone attacking barricades
Suggestion description
This will change the flavor text when attacking the barricades:
- Failed attack- "You smash at the barricade, but to no effect."
- Successful attack- "You smash at the barricade. Part of it collapses."
This will remove newbies' confusion that smashing/creaking barricades does not necessarily mean a successful hit. (Darn, I still remember back in my old newbie days when I thought the barricades were just too easy..)
Similar Suggestions (THIS IS NOT A DUPE):
- Suggestion:20070514_Barricade-Breaking_Improvements- Unlike that suggestion, this suggestion will remove all creaking flavor text, etc., whatsoever.

- Keep - In addition to reducing confusion, it reduces server load and the time it takes to update the page of anyone who attacks barricades. With fewer possible messages to display, the page will change fewer times (on average). It takes less time to display the same page (with identical text) than it does to display a new page (with different text). --Steakfish 04:35, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- The page is generated each and every time you do something and it's loaded by your browser each and every time. All this would reduce is the "It creaks."-text, which is 10 letters long. Not a big save. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 06:20, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Hmmm... I was SURE I noticed a small, but significant, difference in the time it takes to load a page with some sort of change, as opposed to an identical page. Maybe it's just my imagination. --Steakfish 13:05, 18 October 2007 (BST)

- Keep - Fine by me, creaking barricades just makes the game confusing for newbies. --Sonofagun18 05:36, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Sounds like a plan.--the one, the only, sushiknight (talk contribs HARD E.N.D.) 06:11, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - The creaking is good for flavour, but realy confuses people.--SeventythreeTalk 07:49, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Possibly add flavour such as 'it creaks but is not damaged'Studoku 09:08, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - the idea behind this suggestion is entirely sound - remove the ambiguity so that a user knows for sure whether or not they've damaged a cade. The nit-picking over the exact implementation, in this case, is pointless. --Funt Solo 12:06, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - For the newbies. --T 13:41, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep – Grahahahahahahahah! The time of revenge on those creaking barricades is nigh! ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 14:06, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep/Change – As others have said - keep creek, but clarify.--Actingupagain 16:21, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - I think creaks can stay, so long as it's still specified that the barricades aren't actually damaged.--Jiangyingzi 17:52, 18 October 2007 (BST)

- Keep/Change - I like the idea, but maybe you could add "The barricade creaks, but does not take damage." --Shatterspike1 23:47, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - "The barricade creaks, but does not take damage this time" could reduce some of the confusion that kill voters mentioned. --Toejam 00:14, 19 October 2007 (BST)
- Very well, I shall revise this suggestion to please the Kill voters. --Vkkhamul 00:26, 19 October 2007 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Kill - I wants my creaks! --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 06:20, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Has it been decided now that flavour is a bad thing? --Rgon 07:38, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Change - I think you get the same message (but to no effect) when you attack barricades with a bite. If that is really the case then it would be very confusing - the same message for a bite attack that does not work on barricades at all and a claw attack that hit the barricade, but was not enough to break it. Why don't you change the failure message to something like You smash at the barricade. It creaks, but does not break.? -- John RubinT! ZG 08:59, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Change - As per John Rubin. --WanYao 10:16, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - What next? "You fire at <player> and miss. You do not cause them any damage, and your gun now has one less bullet"? People should be able to figure some things out themselves. --Pavluk A! E! 10:47, 18 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill - As Rubin, John. Actually adds more confusion by stating that your attacks are not working (unless you hit) -- boxy • talk • 13:00 18 October 2007 (BST)
