Link Suburb Name to Suburb Map

Jon Pyre 22:32, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Improvement

Suggestion scope
Convenience

Suggestion description
Everyone relies on this map. It's on the front page of the wiki so it's easy to find.

Why not make it even easier to find by making the suburb name above your 3x3 view open up that suburb's page in a new window? This is slightly more convenient than opening the wiki in a new window/tab and clicking on the map, or opening a new tab and going through your bookmarks.

It would be pretty simple to turn the suburb name into a hyperlink. The only downside is that someone might accidentally click it, but they'd be no worse (and actually better) off than if they accidentally clicked a square and moved to the wrong spot. Should that doomsday scenario happen they could just close the new tab and continue playing.

This is just a simple bit of website improvement would save a step each day for many thousands of players. It's non-essential like most small improvements, but it's also straightforward and simple to implement.

Keep Votes

  1. Author This would be a useful feature for experienced users, it would be easy for newbies to find, and I don't remember seeing anything in the past that made the suburb name link to your current suburb. There HAVE been suggestions just to add a map link, which is a bit less useful and adds clutter, so I consider this improvement a viable difference. If someone finds a link to a Dupe I'll withdraw the suggestion. --Jon Pyre 22:52, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Anti-Spam - Firefox is not a reason to spam!!! Some people play of computers that cannot get firefox(Work/School Computers) SO DON'T SPAM SELFISHLY!!! If you're going to do that, at least have the decency to vote "personal kill". --BoboTalkClown 23:11, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill/Change - it's not an Urban Dead domain resource, so can't be relied upon as a permanent integration to the game. Plus, it's hosted by RedRum - a PKer group. I hates PKers. If there was a map resource in the urbandead domain-space, I'd vote Keep, maybe. But, to be honest, I'd prefer integrating it into the gameplay, as with my Peer Reviewed City Map suggestion. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 23:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Re Yeah, I also don't like that it's a separate resource. But that's why I suggest it opens in a new window, so you don't leave the game. If that map ever shut down it'd be simple to turn the links back to normal text or link to whatever map replaces it instead. --Jon Pyre 23:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill/Change - as above, especially the hating PKers (real humans wouldn't even think of cooperating with zombies, and they would have been dealt with after a couple years methinks). Maybe change it to link to the wiki's map? I use that one more then I ever use the one you linked. And thanks for the edit conflict Jon.--CorndogheroT-S-Z 23:33, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Get firefox plug in, and why does everyone hate pkers??? --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 23:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill/Change - Link to the suburb maps found on the wiki. --PdeqTalk* 01:08, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
My point is why not link directly without having to go to the wiki first, and then having to search for your suburb? --Jon Pyre 01:25, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. I believe this is a dupe. If someone supplies the link, then this dupe will count. If not, then don't count this vote at all. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I believe there have been suggestions to put a link to the map next to the link to the wiki, but I'm suggesting allowing people to easily access the page for their current suburb. That's a bit more convenient than just linking to the map. Plus it makes use of existing text to not require more clutter on the screen. In response to below links: The first I think just proposes a general map link but uses odd grammar. The second suggests linking to wiki pages, not map pages at all. And neither suggests going directly to the map of your current suburb. --Jon Pyre 23:21, 11 February 2008 (UTC--Jon Pyre 22:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    Then it's a rather close dupe. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:39, 11 February 2008 (UTC) Found 2 possible dupes in PR. This and this, although it's more of the first one. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:05, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

  2. Dupe - I'm pretty sure this has been suggested exactly like this before. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 22:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Dupe - I third that. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 22:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
If it is exact then it is a Dupe. However as long as a previous suggestion did not propose suing the suburb's name as a hyperlink directly to the suburb's page it is an original suggestion. Kevan might prefer giving people a direct link to a map of their area more than just adding city map link next to the wiki link. --Jon Pyre 22:48, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

  5. Dupe - Close enougth. Idea is identical, this has a very slight difference in implementation. Sorry.--SeventythreeTalk 23:24, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
