20080222 Some Way to Tell If Someone IS ACTIVE (LOGGED IN)

Suggestion type
Game Display
Suggestion scope
all players: survivors, zombies, pk'ers, bounty hunters
Suggestion description
When showing the charactors in a room, the names are displayed in a regular font, nothing fancy. Players who have done the last activity in the room are at the bottom of the list. But, we cannot tell if that player is STILL ACTIVE (at least logged in). It may have been a week since that player barricaded, or spoke, whatever. If the names of players STILL LOGGED IN were displayed in BOLD font, we would know that we could talk/interact with them, and can expect a return interaction at their next screen-refresh.
For zombies, it would mean we should Drag him out first, cause he's still Active. For Bounty Hunters, we should cull THIS pk'er first, cause he's active (get the rest later)(or run away now!!). For survivors, the zeds just broke in, but they're all inactive now, they blew their AP. We get a breather, barricade first, then Kill... etc...
Expected game effects
More realistic play, no wasted AP on inactive charactors. Fair for all sides.

- I don't think this would work - I never log out as I only have one character. Jonny12 talk 14:00, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

- Above/below and I don't usually ever hit the logout button. Wouldn't that mean I'm always active? -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 18:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

- Spam - You can already tell who is active in a room; they are guaranteed to be in the bottom of the list of characters. The longer the time between their last login, the farther up they'll be. After a few days of inactivity, they will be automatically hidden from the list. After a whole month of inactivity, if you have them in your contacts, they will be striked out to indicate that they are missing in action. Now if you want to know who is logged in at this very moment: that cannot be done as this is a browser game, it can only tell you when was the last time they visited the game's servers relative to other players. .--Aeon17x 13:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

- Above. And I also believe this is a dupe of something... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC) Not a dupe. You're clear. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- spam - because it goes against the design principles of the game. it's not an RT game in that way, you know what i mean? --WanYao 14:45, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- i don't think it's impossible for the game to do this ... but is it something we WANT it to??? do we want a little green dot, or whatever, beside the names of people logged in?? i don't... i will know who is active by the character list and by seeing them actually doing stuff... this design feature is central to the ethos of the game IMNSHO and i don't want to see it messed with. --WanYao 17:05, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- Dupe of ingame, to the extent that it's possible. --Funt Solo QT 14:46, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

- Spam - As Aeon. It's impossible for the game to do this. What possibly could be done is showing the names of characters who have used AP within the last n minutes.-Studoku 15:43, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

- Spam - If you only paly 1 character, there's never any need to "log off". Most people play only 3 characters, so 1/3 of the people in the city would likely be shown as "logged in" at any time. In short, it doesn't really tell you who is active, it just tells you who is INactive, which is only really useful for griefing. Swiers 21:48, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
