Expert Specialization

Author-retracted for the purpose of moving to the Talk page. There's a lot here and I think the sheer scope is triggering knee-jerk reactions. --Ember MBR 14:40, 31 May 2006 (BST)

Update Your Details

Timestamp: 03:16, 31 May 2006 (BST)
Type: Improvement
Scope: Everyone
Description: I looked for previous suggestions of this, but I couldn't find any, which surprised me. The idea is quite simple:

While, when signing up for a new character, you have the choice to provide a "Real Name," "Email address," "URL of your web site," and answer "Yes" or "No" to "Do you want to be emailed about major updates to Urban Dead?", there is no way to set, alter, or remove these values later.

This suggestion, if implemented, would add three text boxes (for "Real Name," "Email address," and "URL of your web site") and two radio buttons ("Yes"/"No" for the email question) to the Edit Profile screen. Users would be able to change any of these values at any time.

  1. Keep - It seems like this would be very handy. --Bob Hammero T oW! oU! 03:16, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  2. Keep - I thought about suggesting this, once. Then I got distracted and wandered off. Probably chased a balloon into the woods, or something. --Ron Burgundy 03:20, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  3. Keep Although it should obviously require your password to change. --Jon Pyre 03:29, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  4. Keep - I once thought about this too, but sadly fell to the same demon Ron did. --ThunderJoe 03:38, 31 May 2006 (BST)\
  5. Keep - This would be much useful to me, who in the beggining didn't think of putting an email down. -- HamsterNinja 03:41, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  6. Keep - Clearly, we need a balloon demon suggestion --Cinnibar 03:42, 31 May 2006 (BST)

  8. Keep - Makes sense. --Darkstar949 04:37, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  9. Dupe Keep - This one's a no brainer. Still don't know why it wasn't implemented already. (Thanks for pointing that out, Jedaz.) –Xoid MTU! 05:50, 31 May 2006 (BST)

    • Illegal Re: I say let Kevan know there is still 100% support behind the idea. –Xoid MTU! 05:50, 31 May 2006 (BST) Admitting an Re's illegality doesn't make it OK. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 08:31, 31 May 2006 (BST)
      • Re - Well I don't realy think we need doubles of the same suggestion in the peer reviewed page, there are over 170 suggestions there. I don't know how often Kevan looks at the page, but I know if I was him I wouldn't want to see the same suggestion twice. I don't mind letting him know there is still 100% backing of it, but just not in this way. - Jedaz 06:32, 31 May 2006 (BST) Edit - Didn't see that you also change your vote to dupe, lol. But this re still applys to anyone whos thinking of leaving their vote as keep - Jedaz 06:34, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  12. Dupe - But still a fabulous idea. --Pinpoint 06:07, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  13. Keep - makes sense to me --Grog 13:58, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  14. Dupe - Just try to think of it as your suggestion having been pre-emptively approved. --Jimbo Bob ASS oU! 14:47, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  15. Dupe - As Above. --Timid Dan 15:35, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  16. Keep - Good idea. And a reminder, per the rules, Dupe votes w/o a link are invalid votes. Hey, I don't make the rules. --Reverend Loki 19:36, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  17. Dupe - "For a Dupe vote to be valid, a link must be provided to the original suggestion." See the original link in Jedaz's vote. A great idea. But it's already in Peer Reviewed which means anyone still voting keep is a *chose your own flame here*. David Malfisto 20:35, 31 May 2006 (BST)

Double-barrel

Timestamp: 19:34, 1 May 2006 (BST)
Type: Skill for shotgun use
Scope: Survivors
Description: Double-barrel would be a skill--either in the military tree, under Shotgun Training, next to AST, or else a Zombie Hunter skill. This skill allows you to shoot a zed with both barrels of a shotgun at once (thus using both shells), for one AP. The catch would be, it'd do only 15 damage at your normal shotgun accuracy. The idea is that it'd actually do less dam/AP than single-barrel shotgun use when you average in reloading and finding ammo--though not really a lot less--to counterbalance the obvious tactical advantage of being able to deal a lot of damage quickly if you have them preloaded. The math, courtesy of our mathy friend John Ember:
You have about a 16% chance of finding a single shell (including those already
in shotguns when found) in a mall with Bargain Hunting. (This is pre-April 29,
waiting on data since the game change). Works out to be 12.5 AP per 2 shells.
Add 2 AP for load and 1 AP for fire; total is 15.5 AP per two fired rounds. Each
double-shot has a 65% chance of doing 15 damage--9.75 average. Thus, overall
average damage is 9.75 hp per 15.5 AP, or 0.63 MBR. Compare to current shotgun at
0.79 MBR and pistol at 1.22 MBR. It's actually a step down overall, but that's
compensated for by the ability to do extra damage in a shorter period of time
when the combat hits.

  1. Keep - author vote. This is a resubmit with cleanup and Ember's math. EDIT: Very sorry for breaking the Internets.--'STER-Talk-Mod 15:56, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  2. Spam - AAAAHHHH! Do not stretch! Stretching is heinous and should be punishable by DEATH! And, the kind that you do not recover from too. Proudly signed John the Quicker 04:10, 31 May 2006 (BST)
RE: I'm very sorry. I'll try not to break the internet again. please vote on the actual suggestion now. (vote based on template mishap struck through)
  3. Keep I like this, the math is good and it does do less damage per AP. --Burgan 16:16, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  4. Kill - I don't see why you should need to have a skill just to shoot both barrels, make it just a general change and you have your keep from me. - Jedaz 16:18, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  5. Kill I don't really see the point. Live combat is rare and even then you'd probably want to go for two seperate shots and do more damage. --Jon Pyre 16:18, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  6. Keep - It's not about live combat, it's about doing more damage per AP in a combat situation. Average of 9.75 per AP instead of 6.5 per AP in actual combat, but (as 'STER explained) less effective in the long term. Makes for a great tradeoff, and it's a cool additional skill. I think the Zombie Hunter tree is the ideal place to put this. I assume this would show up as an additional option in the attack menu, so that one could still fire the shotgun normally if desired? --Ember MBR 17:57, 31 May 2006 (BST)
RE: Of course. thanks for your support.--'STER-Talk-Mod 20:59, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  7. Keep Shooting Both barrels w/o getting nocked on your @$$ is an acquired skill irl, much less doing it accuratly in a combat situation, Not as difficult as trying to fire a .50 one armed, but still more dificult than firing them in sequence. The Math makes it a good tradeoff. Conndrakamod T W! 18:49, 31 May 2006 (BST)
RE: ...Is there even such a thing as a .50 pistol? Or any .50 gun you could even hold in one hand?--'STER-Talk-Mod 21:05, 31 May 2006 (BST)
    • checks wikipedia page Wow, I hadn't realized just how ridiculous some versions of that gun get. Why the hell would you want a 14 inch barrel handgun? You'd barely be able to lift it.--'STER-Talk-Mod 00:35, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  8. Keep - Just make one change: option to fire both or singly. Thank you for fixing the template. --John the Quicker 6:48, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  9. Keep - I'd never use it, but I'm sure some people would. --Rozozag 18:58, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  10. Keep Me likey.-- HamsterNinja 19:38, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  11. Keep - I wouldn't use it (but only because I'm too cowardly to take part in sieges with my survivor characters) and heck, I've got other skills I've yet to use! David Malfisto 20:42, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  12. Kill - I just don't see the point of this. --Timid Dan 20:53, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  13. Keep - Does not improve the actual damage per 50 AP!!! Thus this gets my vote, because it adds options to combat without accelerating the pace too much. The reason for this: You can only carry 25 double-shots at a time, for 25 * 9.75 damage, plus, say, 25 axe swings (25 * 1.2) when out of ammo. That's less than a full 50 AP of shooting single-shot shotguns (50 * 6.5). Thus whilst this does increase damage output per AP, it does so at a cost that is significant enough to prevent it from accelerating maxed combat situations. Also, what John Ember calculated for MBR. --McArrowni 23:52, 31 May 2006 (BST)
  14. Keep - Well explained and reasoned, useful enough to be deserving of a new skill. --Karlsbad 00:00, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  15. Keep - an interesting tactical addition - so long as the suer still has the choice between normal shooting and double abrrel shooting once they have the upgrade. Making it a Zombie Hunter Upgrade makes perfect sense to me as well. --Grog 00:06, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  16. Keep - Bandwagon vote. --Bob Hammero TW!U! 00:35, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  17. Kill - The idea of shooting somebody with twice as much ammo and somehow doing less damage just doesn't jive with me. --Jimbo Bob ASSU! 00:36, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  18. Keep - I like this. --Darkstar949 01:46, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  19. Keep - You win 100 internets. Tokakeke 03:01, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  20. Keep - I can see how this would have uses, I need to kill something, but have to save my AP, It needs to die quickly. And why this needs a skill, the last time I shot both barrels at once I ended up on my ass. You need skill to keep your balance with the recoil --Teksura 04:43, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  21. Keep - Finally! A serviceable weapon change! --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 08:20, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  22. Keep Well if you want to kill some one quick why not.Nazreg 11:47, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  23. Keep -Wait, we can't vote keep! This isn't a game altering idea!--Pesatyel 19:16, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  24. Keep -But I think it would jive a bit better (realism wise) to get the full 20 damage, but reduce the accuracy % so that the math averages to the lower level of damage to AP than normal shotgun use. --Goathens 23:04, 1 June 2006 (BST)
  25. Keep - some people would use this, I'm sure. Crazy Hand 21:38, 2 June 2006 (BST)
  26. Kill - for realism's sake, I am going to have to be a party pooper and mention the fact that it is very hard to miss with a shotgun. If you empty a double barrel shotgun at someone, you are going to hit them with both- and your accuracy is going to be higher simply because you are putting more lead into the air. --Gage 16:53, 13 June 2006 (BST)
  27. Keep - Why not. Doesn't seem too overpowered or anything.--William Raker 19:18, 13 June 2006 (BST)
