I can see this is a topic at least worth talking about because people feel strongly both ways. I'll start something on the discussion page --Teksura 20:09, 6 May 2006 (BST)
Default Group Affiliations
Timestamp: | 13:03, 6 May 2006 (BST) |
Type: | General Change |
Scope: | All new players |
Description: | I was sitting here and thiking, how come do people start off with no group affiliations? They all must be a part of some kind of group, because hey, we all like to think our characters had a life before the outbreak. Then it stuck me, each player should have a default group when the begin the game. So what I suggest is that for each starting class they each have a different group affiliation to start off with in their profiles. So the group affiliations would be like this...
Although I guess there isn't any reason to keep, there also isn't any reason to kill. This just adds a bit of flavor to the game as it makes it a bit easier to get into character. A problem that could arrise is if someone designed a group with one of these names, from the statistics page it would then be linked to their group page which would promote their group dramaticaly. So what I suggest to counter that is that the statistics page doesn't link to any of these groups. This wouldn't clash with any current group. |

- Kill - What's wrong with the group system at the moment? Adding in Standardised groups may throw off new players, and many people do not want to be affiliated with a group. A group is supposed to be an organised assembly of players working together to achieve their aims. Starting people off with a group affiliation, for groups that don't even exist, is not a good idea. --HerrStefantheGreat 14:03, 6 May 2006 (BST)
- Re - Yes, I see your point, I didn't think about it like that. (and imagine that, the first vote exactly 1 hour after the suggestion was posted) - Jedaz 15:10, 6 May 2006 (BST)

- Kill -while it would be a nice touch of flavor, it would mainly confuse the new players. but not bad--Vista W! 14:20, 6 May 2006 (BST)

- kill no reason to keep is a reason to kill! this is pointless and while i can think of a few things that might make it worthwhile they aren't good enough that i would bother.--Honestmistake 14:48, 6 May 2006 (BST)
- Kill Sorry mate, I'm with HerrStephan on this. You'll just confuse newbies. Krazy Monkey 17:43, 6 May 2006 (BST) (sorry forgot to sign it)
- Re - Well I geuss thats fair enough from that perspective (and you forgot your sig so you better fix that...) - Jedaz 15:01, 6 May 2006 (BST)
- Kill - Doesn't the class description already suggest this? This just seems slightly redundant. Not every flavor suggestion is a good thing. If the flavor is slight, like a light tarragon glaze, it might help bring out the taste of the game, but its overbearing, like a Extreme Honey Chipotle Barbecue Sauce, it can deaden the senses.--Xavier06 15:03, 6 May 2006 (BST)

- Kill - The above. Plus, shouldn't the NecroTech Lab Assistant be working for, I dunno, NecroTech?--Wifey 17:24, 6 May 2006 (BST)
- Kill -- Nope. I don't see any utility in this. It's not like these things would be actual organised groups, so they would give no advantage whatsoever to the people in them. And even if they were organised groups, group membership is purely a player's personal choice, and always should be. There's no reason to force a player into a group when they make a character, even if it's easy for them to opt back out again. furtim 18:36, 6 May 2006 (BST)
- Kill - What furtim said. --Steel Hammer 19:20, 6 May 2006 (BST)
- Kill - For previously stated reasons. Also, it's basically a n00b badge. It may impact and create conflation of people in the default groups with zombie spies. Largely unnecessary. --ism MotA - R'sR 05:52, 7 May 2006 (BST)
