Every so often I get tempted to run for sysop, then I tend to look at the drama associated and can't be bothered. Herein I will compile arguments, weigh pros and cons, and see if I can convince myself one way or the other.

Facts

Wiki

I have been using the Urban Dead Wiki since May 2007, and contributing since my e-mail address was authenticated on 14:40, 9 June 2007, or shortly thereafter. Prior to this I was a fairly regular contributor to Wikipedia for several years, as well as other wikis to a lesser extent. I take a strong interest in technical details, as can be seen by the areas I've had the most involvement with:

• It's probably worth mentioning that since my last considering running for psyop here, I have made use of Administrator, Bureaucrat, and network/system/domain admin roles on a few other (albeit smaller) wikis. (Servers and networks were a lot bigger, kthx.)
• You can safely assume if I haven't done it before I can figure or find out.

I intend to apply the rules without fear or favour, but with a health dollop of sense. In return, I expect you to hold me accountable to them, always remembering on both sides to assume good faith, not be a dick, and ignore all rules when they get in the way of you improving the wiki.

  There is way too much redundant code in style params, and I intend to clean up as much as I can

Policy

• Character Page Names Policy

  Users should own the wiki page names for their characters without having to create new accounts. The character exists as a game object so is valid for documentation in the main namespace.

• Civility Policy

  Do it right this time and find a compromise which keeps unlimited speech where needed and helps keep people civil otherwise (Notably, UDWiki and main Talk namespaces should always have civility required, IMO)

Game/community

I have played all three major facets of the game – survivor, zombie, killer – from multiple different angles and in multiple different groups, taking various leadership/administration roles on all three sides. (See Characters.) This allows me to maintain a fairly balanced viewpoint on the game – notwithstanding strong opinions on some subjects – and hopefully remain impartial and even-handed.

"Real life"

I have years' worth of professional system and network administration experience, both in public service and private enterprise. This means I am unlikely to make too many technical mistakes, and should be able to fix what I can't prevent.

I am currently studying Computing at university, looking to major in Game Design. Urban Dead thus provides me an interesting subject of study as well as the more common diversion and networking.

There have been lots of new, keen sysops appointed recently. Let them handle it.

There are things that you could do to benefit the wiki that require sysop powers to achieve.

So either tell people what and how to do them, or just leave it. Nice to have != essential.
