User talk:ERNesbitt
Hi ERNesbitt. With your permission, I would like to remove the early MalTel templates which currently just redirect to the MTStatus templates. --Lint 18:56, 15 April 2006 (BST)
- Sounds good to me... Have at it. --ERNesbitt 21:24, 17 April 2006 (BST)
- My only preference is that the alphabetical list on the main page stays. It's easier to locate alphabetically versus hunting for it on a map. --ERNesbitt 16:55, 21 April 2006 (BST)
Suggestion for additional phone stats
Please consider voting for a suggestion I have recently put in place.

MalTel, Cell Phone Masts, and Colors
Hi ERNesbitt. Cell Phone Mast locations are important enough to be separately keyed on most Barricade Policies; they are almost always EHB buildings but are not Yellow/generics. So far most maps seem to use Dark Yellow-Brown for Cell Phone Mast buildings. Please check out Uniform Color Policy and let me know what you think. I was wondering if you had considered using a dark brown as MalTel's logo and template colors. It seems to me that if the barricaders and the mast workers used the same color scheme, that would be free advertising for both parties.
Some Sample Browns: | Darkgoldenrod | Peru | Chocolate | Sienna |
I don't mind blue-grey colors, but they are already fighting for attention with Schools (which are VS not EH in Uniform Barricading), Police Departments, Revive Points, and low-barricade stuff... yellow-orange-brown seems to mean Keep the Walls High, which is ideal for Cell Phone Mast buildings. --Tycho44 W! 20:20, 26 April 2006 (BST)
- I changed it to the same brown color that is used in the uniform color standards. --ERNesbitt 17:12, 27 April 2006 (BST)
Heh
Saw your edit summary. Ever tried using the adorable "Spel-Chek", or "I haet typos"? –Xoid S•T•FU! 13:35, 5 June 2006 (BST)
Yo
It seems to me that you have little to no experience in creating a template. What exactly are you trying to achieve? –Xoid S•T•FU! 04:58, 9 June 2006 (BST)
- I'll go with "little". I did manage the original MalTel Templates. Now I'm improving them so that I don't have to pass all of the variables from the first template all the way back. The suburb changes color based on the status of the phone mast. --ERNesbittP·T·MalTel 05:03, 9 June 2006 (BST)
Now, look at Malton Telephone to see what exactly I was trying to achieve. I'll put a delete tag on the old templates. No sense keeping them around. ERNesbittP·T·MalTel 03:13, 13 June 2006 (BST)
Hi
Hey, I see you're still active in MalTel. whats been going on lately? I havent been around for a while... you can email my at rocketyam [at] jawatusi [dot] com --RocketYam 09:42, 22 July 2006 (BST)
Policy
Why need the policy for getting rid of defunct groups? Because we have over 100 groups that have been active for less than a month. They're like Vegas Weddings. Spur of the moment, mean nothing, and forgotten about the next day. Sonny Corleone WTF RRF ASS CoL 02:36, 26 July 2006 (BST)
- I agree that there is a glut of unused groups, but why can't someone just put up a deletion notice and wait a week. If nobody comes to protest, then obviously no one is watching the group page and it can be deleted. I watch the Malton Telephone Page, but it has at least one instance where it wasn't updated for over a month. That doesn't mean that we weren't watching it. If a deletion notice had shown up, one of us would have noticed and filed some form of protest. I do see the need to delete old groups that aren't being updated, but I don't see the need to put a policy on place to allow something that any user can do based on the wiki format. Hell, I could start looking for old groups and placing deletion notices up if I wanted and I'm not a mod. I also don't agree with the waiting period to prevent spontaneous group creation, mostly because Malton Telephone was a spontaneous group, but I don't have a good enough argument one way or another on that to make an informed opinion. (Heaven forbid we have THOSE here... :) ERNesbittP·T·MalTel
- Because this policy would not affect groups already created. This would make a moderator's job easier so that they don't need to delete 10 groups a week. Unless you enjoy giving moderators more work. Sonny Corleone WTF RRF ASS 19:22, 28 July 2006 (BST)
- Having been a mod on other forums... No, I do not enjoy giving you guys extra work. --ERNesbitt 20:17, 28 July 2006 (BST)
- Also, I don't see where it would not effect groups already created. I will go back and read it again. --ERNesbitt 20:25, 28 July 2006 (BST)
- I see, while it doesn't specifically state that existing groups are exempt, in context, only the groups created under the policy will be subject to the policy. I'm all for deleting old, outdated crap pages, but it's a wiki. If you don't think something needs to be there, mark it for deletion, if it gets deleted/modified and it's not vandalism, quit whining... It's a wiki! I see the need for "historical groups" like DARIS, PARA, RRF, etc. and that they should be protected, but if one of those pages came up for deletion, the mods would probably recognize that they shouldn't delete historical groups. Perhaps, the historical groups policy could be modified to protect them from deletion (maybe it's already in there).
- I see the purpose of the group deletion policy, but I think a reverse of it should be the case instead, where groups can be protected from deletion by a "historical" status. This would mean that, should Malton Telephone ever become defunct, the group page is deleted because it is not currently of historical significance. Whereas; RRF, being of historical significance would be protected. --ERNesbitt 20:52, 28 July 2006 (BST)
- All the policy does is say type that you want a group, wait a week, create it, then update once a month. That means doing something besides spelling errors. People complain "I won't be able to update it once a month" but meanwhile they're posting on a policy when they could use that time to update. Sonny Corleone WTF RRF ASS 21:17, 28 July 2006 (BST)
- Well, you've turned my opinion slightly. I think an "edit it, or die" policy for groups would be a good idea across the board. (Or at least provide a method for contesting a deletion). In it's current incarnation, I think it still needs revision. But you've at least swayed me enough to remove my vote against. --ERNesbitt 04:24, 29 July 2006 (BST)

Thanks
Thanks for the welcome. And thanks for all the hard work you've beeen doing (even since before I left). Quite frankly, I'm a bit at a loss right now. I've got two characters who are having a hard enough time getting a few masts online, much less KEEPING them online. We might want to arrange teams to run DEM zones or some such.
but thanks again --RocketYam 05:30, 31 July 2006 (BST)
I come bearing thanks
Well just a little thank you note, and now to explain why. I'm currently trying to arrange a redesign of the Revive Point, you can see my page Revivification Point/Redesign. I'm thanking you because I'm changing the list of revive points so it looks more like the Mobile Phone Coverage list. It seems you did most of the work creating the templates so I would like to thank you for creating them I have gave credit where due on the page. Pillsy FT 16:32, 17 October 2006 (BST)
MalTel
Hey man,
Are you still active in MalTel, and know of any other members still active? I'm trying to revive MalTel, it's just you, me and some other guy now...
Thanks,
