I have made no effort to edit or organize these. I'm just cutting & pasting them from my talk page to here when the whim to clean up a bit moves me.

Re: Image

Gilant, you may not be aware of this, but it's actually possible to resize images in the wiki without uploading separate versions of the image. You can specify the width in pixels by using , and the site will create the smaller image in the same ratio. -- Odd Starter talk | Mod 12:25, 18 Dec 2005 (GMT)

DEM revivication tool

Hey Gilant,

I'm aware of the DEM revive request tool, I have an alt in the MCDU. It's a great idea, and I tried using it for a while but it didn't work too well for me. I'd spend a lot of time running around to where people said they were--and often they had moved, so I just wasted AP. Also, the "Find requests within X blocks" feature seems to be broken. So I think I'll stick with the revive point and the talk page for the moment. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Depending on how the tool is implemented, I can try to help you make it better--I'm a bit of a perl hacker myself. I wrote some scripts for automatic wiki stuff, including the new revive point map.

My email address is on my user page if you'd like to send me the DEM Revive Tool code so I can help you hack. Vasi 18:20, 14 Feb 2006 (GMT)

Revive Point Mark 2

Hey man, I've been re-working the revive point so I'll need you to have a look at it and see if the DEM tool can be changed to suit. Cheers. Pillsy FT 09:03, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

No probs, I'll change id to class and I'll sort it in alphabetical order. Pillsy FT 18:39, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Infact just looking I'm not sure what you mean ID or Class, the only class in the table is the div class in the Template:RevivePointUpdate so I'm not sure mate I'll need it explained to me a bit better or just show me what to do. Cheers mate. Pillsy FT 19:25, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'm looking at getting the revive point list up and running by Friday or Saturday. Just to let you know so if any testing needs doing so you can let me know of any issues. Hopefully it will all be ok this time! Pillsy FT 16:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Revive Point Update

Well It's been up for about 9 days so I'm gonna look at updating the revive point page at the end of this week, possibly on friday. I still have a few tweaks to make but its about 95% ready to be used so I'm posting this like you requested to warn you. Cheers for your input on it. Pillsy FT 10:41, 25 October 2006 (BST)

Thats one of the things I'm considering. I was thinking about using your list of revive points page but i'm unsure due to it forcing people to check another page. Might be better to leave it on one but I'll let you know my final tomorrow when I'm more awake. Pillsy FT 23:12, 25 October 2006 (BST)
Good Idea. I'll do that. Pillsy FT 09:14, 27 October 2006 (BST)
I have responded to both the comments on my talk page and reverted the page back to normal. Pillsy FT 11:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Daranz, The Legend

Well I couldn't figure out what to do but it looks as though Daranz has become a legend and saved the day. Have a look at his idea at User talk:Daranz/Sandbox/RPTableEntry and I'm going to use List_of_Revivification_Points to make the list. Does this look any better for the parser functions the the revive request tool? Pillsy FT 16:34, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I didn't see it at first but I was so engrossed at making it work. A little upset it didn't cause it was alot of hours to get working. Anyway, Daranz's should be fine, just one thing I need to understand, does the DEM RRT look at the actual code for the page or does it look at the text. I'll need to know if it needs the words on the page so I can change it slightly. Pillsy FT 13:47, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

PK List

You maintain a PK list. You "verify" other people's pking with screenshots. I hope you cross reference this to the game's back-end database to prevent the retarded from manually altering HTML and then screenshotting the result.

For the record, I use another character which someone has reported to your list; I kill 'live' players for several reasons:

1. Killing my live player.

2. Killing my zombified form at or near (1 square) a designated revive point if they are an NT capable high level player. They should DNA scan me and check my profile, otherwise I reserve the right to retribution.

3. Killing my zombified form at a designated revive point, whoever they are.

4. Killing someone else's live player in my presence.

5. Killing someone else's zombie at a revive point.

There are a lot of self-styled 'zombie hunters' at large who feel they can 'knock off' any zombie, whenever and whereever they chose.

On the basis that they are rather irritating, I reserve the right to kill them too; whenever and whereever I see fit; I will pursue this to the furthest extent possible, especially when I find my 'listed' character has been killed by some boastful tosspot who goes on to announce that said character is a PKer.

Regards,

Wiki cleaning

Being doing some cleaning up on some of our wiki pages and a few others, trying to keep information up to date, especially with the new front on Shore Hills that me and Patter are responcible for. Hopefully I've not made a mess of it. Wiki work is hard and the odd slip up is a real pain when it passes you by. Anyway Just letting you know man. Take care. --Jego - 02:05, 20 June 2006 (GMT)

Territory

  • Galliant Gilant. Is there something on the wiki that lets Groups mark their turf? I'm thinking something like a template or a category.
    • Newbie View - Ideally, it would allow a newbie to check the map and find what groups are operating in their area - closer than just the sub-urb, down to the block level. For example, the newbie is spawned at [30,30] and sees two survivor groups and one zombie group claimed territory there. They move to [29,29] and see only one survivor group claiming that territory.
    • Time Sensitive - If a group's territory claim timed out, like 2 weeks, then it would be deleted. Similar to how recruitment list works.
    • Keeping Score - Could be a point of pride for the group. I.E. Zombie Group XYZ claims 25 blocks while Survivor group FOO only claims 13 blocks. I imagine a very large group would proudly show how they have territory over 2% of Malton (200 blocks out of 10,000 total).
    • Ownership - This may be crossing into a game suggestion, but it would be ideal if it was simliar to ransack - where the block had to actually have a member of the group standing in order to claim ownership.
    • Empty blocks - It would also be useful to see empty territory that groups need to move out toward.
    • Map - Be cool to see a color coded map by any group or groups. Maybe some real subst magic.

These are just some thoughts - may not be practical - but I thought I'd throw them out there! --LadyAG 19:25, 25 May 2006 (BST)

Question

Looking around the wiki I found this recruitment page. Maybe the DEM should also make an entry there.

--William Spurlock 13:37, 9 April 2006 (BST)

Read or Die

Esteemed head of the DEM,

Forgive my impertinence for posting on your page, but I represent Read Or Die, a small but determined group of bibliophiles who are seeking your help. For RP reasons, we have identified Olivey Library as a building of symbolic and practical importance to the survival of human knowledge in Malton. To this end we are hoping to organise a grand expedition - the `Barrville Crusade' - to liberate it, and with it the suburb of Barrville. We are inviting some 75 survivor groups to take part, and believe that your groups will have a special interest in this mission because of your experience in successful barricading and security operations. We would very much value your expertise and manpower in this mission. The Barrville Crusade is scheduled for 18 April, when all participants shall converge on the suburb, capture and barricade the Olivey Library a la the Caiger Mall, and then fan out to free and fortify buildings throughout the suburb. We envisage an operation that shall eventually involve thousands of survivors from dozens of groups, in an action that shall be no less impressive than the great Caiger Mall siege of winter 2005. In practical terms - as well as being providing great fun and camaraderie for all - it will provide a great boon to survivors. The concentration of forces in around Caiger Mall provided the humans with a huge advantage: human players gained XP quickly, while zombies futilely assaulted barricades; the outlying suburbs were drained of zombies, giving inexperienced newbies room to accumulate skills safely. We believe the game needs a recreation of this situation right now: the percentage of zombies in the active Malton population has risen by 1% every day for the last 4 days (from 39% to 43%). This is unsustainable - the fewer people there are, the ever harder it will be to tackle the growing revivification deficit. We are leaving details of the crusade open, in order to draw as many zombies as possible away from the other suburbs, and ready to be slaughtered by our valiant forces. Please contact us to let us know whether or not your group would like to send some forces to help on the appropriate date. It will be an excellent opportunity to redress the growing zombie numbers, draw the RRF away from weak newbies in other suburbs (giving them time to accumulate skills), demoralise the zombies once more, and relive the glorious campaigns of old.

For contact, please email either my boss sailormech@hotmail.com or me ellyg@hotmail.co.uk, or visit the ROD open forum ( http://s12.invisionfree.com/ROD_the_HQ/index.php?act=SC&c=1 ), where strategies can be discussed, concerns voiced, and any improvements suggested. Feel free to contact any allies, or non-aligned individuals, if you think they may be interested.

We would be very honoured to have the assistance of volunteers from a group as great and universally respected as yours, Susan Barker http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=293495

Alliance of Giddings

Did I do something that angered the DEM, MFD, and MPD that they backed out of the AoG? I'm sad to see such a great ally leave after all our fighting together in Barrville. Saromu 14:12, 2 April 2006 (BST)

No Saromu, you certainly did not. But the AoG has moved in a direction the DEM can not be a part of. No matter how benign you intent, it is against the DEM's charter to claim to control any territory. (conversation continued via PM) --Gilant 16:37, 3 April 2006 (BST)

Nice Revivification Image!

--Tycho44 00:56, 15 April 2006 (BST)

Revive Request / Malton Forensics Unit

  • I tried doing so a while back, but for some reason the tool told me something along the lines of it's filtering multiple requests and can't add mine or something, and no matter how many times I tried adding at that point it wouldn't let me. I'll try again. I'm currently in the cemetery [78, 26] although I can move to a closer revive point if you guys are at either of the NT buildings in Santlerville. -- Angela 19:45, 15 April 2006 (BST)
    • Actually, there are at least three operational revive points in Santlerville; two next to NTs and the cemetery. Or, well, they should be operational, last I checked. I've already added a request and I will be staying at [78 26], the cemetery (this is me). Thanks. :) -- Angela 02:23, 16 April 2006 (BST)

To Serve and Protect

About the motto change on the MPD page--someone not in the DEM changed it to the actual police motto a while back, and I changed it back wanting it to match the logo. I made up an in-character reason for it to be the other way around so he wouldn't change it back, and I rather think it wasn't a bad backstory and maybe we should keep it. Plus that way it'll match the logo image. The story goes, after the outbreak the police hierarchy (what was left of it) decided that some of the force was getting too focused on shooting zombies. It was felt that that job should be left to the military and that the police should first concentrate on keeping the laws and the peace. To make this clear and help remind the police officers, the motto of the Malton PD was changed to emphasize the service aspect. Your thoughts?--'STER-Talk-Mod 03:09, 20 April 2006 (BST)

RE: yeah--Kev updated the wiki software a month or two back and it changed to rules on watched pages a little, I think you have to watch Talk pages separately now. Anyway, I'll put that thing on the page now.--'STER-Talk-Mod 04:03, 20 April 2006 (BST)

PLEB hunt

Certainly seems perfectly fine to me. They can claim it's not a group page if they like, but it still gets its NPOV paragraph. Your tiny disclaimer is definitely fine.--'STER-Talk-Mod 18:26, 29 April 2006 (BST)

Look, if we're going to impose NPoV on PKer group pages, there are a ton out there: 1. It's pretty conspicuous that you decided to crap on our group page after crapping on our forum thread. While you're not breaking wiki rules, it's clear you have an axe to grind. Please grind it somewhere else. Nonetheless I am leaving the disclaimer as 'STER and I have worked it out, because it makes us sound dangerous and stuff. ;) Thanks for the improvement. --John Ember 19:45, 29 April 2006 (BST)

Molebank BWPD

Just noticed that you updated the notes on the revive point page for the alleged Molebank BWPD revive point. The location is heavily disputed, as many players believe that no revives are actually taking place there and repeated tagging in-game and on the wiki is being done by a griefer group (believed to be NARC). Is there a way to tag the revive point as 'in dispute'?

Be advised that NARC is likely to edit/remove your comment on that page anyway. --Timid Dan 16:40, 10 May 2006 (BST)

RevPnt Anchors

====Suburb, Location Name==== would still cause duplicates - there are 2 "a cemetery"s on the list in Gulsonside. Coordinates is probably the only way to ensure each one is unique; using ====Suburb, [X, Y]==== would give them some context.

The Table of Contents could be generated if the list was moved to a new page such as List of Revivification Points , although it would involve some work to reorganise the wiki and parsing tools. -- Mettaur 12:41, 11 May 2006 (BST)

Labine50

I can NOT believe I didn't look up. I'm pretty think sometimes.

Category talk:MPD Member

The heart of this matter is marcus arilus2's botched attempt to add himself to the category. I think my nominating the redirect for speedy was a positively brilliant move — I probably should have just blanked the redirect after moving his edit to his page, but hindsight is king ain't it?

I could probably add myself to the category, but I'm not really sure a deserter counts. (Constable Anton Howard, badge no. 7 something something. (Can't remember.) I gave up on UD about a two days after joining. And then got back into it. Go figure.)

Anyway, sorry about getting you worried over nothing. And wasting your time by being long winded. –Xoid STFU! 14:55, 22 May 2006 (BST)

Chose this heading since it's still (mildly) on topic. About the only thing Anton has done is go on a dying spree. Whenever I've been (un?)lucky enough to get combat revived, he gets eaten by zombies the moment he finds a safehouse. At the moment he's a 10th or 11th level zombie, so before I'd consider returning him to the fight for tasty harman flesh the betterment of Malton, I might as well stockpile up enough XP to get some cross-class (cross-life?) skills, and an accuracy boost. The first few days of being a zombie with 10% accuracy were pure hell. I ain't going through that again if I can avoid it. :-)
PS: I was wondering how long "Barhahville" would remain renamed. I was half expecting people to go "WTF?" - but no, just a short message that I shouldn't have done it. :-p –Xoid STFU! 16:00, 22 May 2006 (BST)

MFD category

The version you have is nice, but how bout integrating it with this template so that having the template on your user page automatically add that page to the category? Can a template do that? I don't even know. It just seems like it ought to be able to. EDIT: Oh, it seems you've already found the template. I assume it's impossible for a tempalte to do that then?--'STER-Talk-Mod 19:57, 25 May 2006 (BST)

Hey, nice work! That's pretty nifty. I dunno if there's a way to fix the problem you mentioned, though--for a mod, I really don't know as much as I should about wiki-fiddling. I don't think it's a huge deal, though--it's a pretty cool trick as is. Thanks.--'STER-Talk-Mod 21:00, 25 May 2006 (BST)
I fixed it. –Xoid STFU! 06:45, 26 May 2006 (BST)
Edit summary: (paraphrasing) "Something went wrong with the implementation" …huh? What was wrong with the implementation? Didn't notice that you noticed that… um, I'll shut up while I can still think straight. Do you mind if I fiddle with the "internal" workings of it? (I may not actually end up wanting to change anything, but I suspect you may have duplicated something.) –Xoid STFU! 17:14, 5 June 2006 (BST)

Suggested Changes: 1. Adding: margin: 1em auto 1em auto; to the CSS of both boxes will make them automatically float in the centre, without the need for the div tag. but that won't align the caption.

2. Removing excess white space: I know that it decreases legibility to change:

| type07=TYPE | text07=TEXT | content07=

to:

type07=TYPE|text07=TEXT|content07=|

but it ensures consistency with most of the templates on the wiki. There is also the problem that templates will break in some browsers when you write the template call like the first example. Since this call is likely to be implemented in roughly 100 pages, all of which are looked at relatively frequently, saving on the number of bytes the wiki has to deal with would also help reduce server load. There is also the high probability that the template will be used multiple times, as a group may wish to have one on their own page, or such. I seem to be having problems getting that to work. I'll try again later.

3. Placing the noincludes and includeonlys is very important. I learnt this the hard way. my Uncyclopedia talk page has more information on why. (I could repeat it here, but it's late, and I'm sure I would stuff up somewhere.)

If you don't want to get onto this immediately, I can deal with it tomorrow if that's okay with you. –Xoid STFU! 17:54, 5 June 2006 (BST)

Recruitment Ads

I'm only a member of the MPD, and our timestamp there was up to date. Regardless, I wasn't really paying attention to the which group I was telling, just the time stamp was either missing or out of date. (Almost every group had the same problem; John Rove is MIA and he usually handles that. I thought it prudent to at least do it this time; before someone starting removing recruitment Ads and causing drama.) –Xoid STFU! 06:25, 15 June 2006 (BST)

Unhappy

Incidentally, I may no longer be in MPD. Dark Wingstar seems hell bent on taking something I said out of context, and using the fact that one of my alts is going to become a PKer to get me ejected. Frankly, if the DEM doesn't understand the whole "separate characters, separate existences" thing, I don't see why I should bother staying. –Xoid STFU! 18:16, 15 June 2006 (BST)

I forwarded Dark Wingstar's response to me, to your "Alex DeWitt" account on Brainstock. Regardless, I have still not actually PKed anyone with my alt. Also, while I understand the DEM's stance on PKing, there are some players I simply cannot stand. Those who have offensive profiles, multi-abusers, and the ever popular "If I see a brain rotter who's alive I'm gonna kill him!". (Those sort of people make me see red. If I want to play a rotter who actually works for humanity; that's my prerogative — I actually want a challange in this game.)
GKers, RKers, other PKers, all targets. I'm not a griefer — players who are non-descript (or have a sensible profile), don't cheat and are not painfully retarded will never be a target — nor would any DEM member. I just don't feel like going through the sort of rigmarole that is required of a Marshal, especially with the moratorium on killing non-PKers who just happen to meet my first three criterion. –Xoid STFU! 02:55, 16 June 2006 (BST)
Sensible meaning that they do not contain anything such as "So and so is a fag!" or "My testicles are so huge I could smother three people to death at once with 'em.". (Which could easily fall under the "offensive profile" thing.) I consider their ruining the immersion factor to be griefing in and of itself. Painfully retarded being "So and so is a zombie spy! Kill on sight!" (Where they then proceed to kill a survivor with one or two zombie skills.). Multi-abusers are cheating outright and deserve no sympathy whatsoever. I fail to see how any of this "arrogance".
If you are going to take the tact "…who has some real RP motivation…", then what of so many of these self righteous anti-PKs who immediately accuse every player of being a griefing retard with no life? There are a fair share of them and I don't see you calling them arrogant. –Xoid STFU! 03:27, 16 June 2006 (BST)

Barrville Barricades

From what I gather, most of the barricades in the western half of the suburb are EHB. I couldn't find a single one that isn't (that is, I couldn't find a single building without a barricade or a single barricade at VS) and assumed the MFD's barricade plan was out of date, like they are everywhere else (according to it, all the resource buildings are VS, but I've never seen an example of it in game). I also assumed that everyone who had come in with us ignored previously established barricade policy and just threw them up everywhere with no rhyme or reason- that is, without the attention of any of the groups already in the area. As such, the barricade plan that I wrote up is an attempt to bring things up to speed. The intention isn't to stomp on anything and you're welcome to change it if you like. --Ron Burgundy 02:56, 17 June 2006 (BST)

Yes, I totally don't intend to just shash my way into a suburb and throw the locals to the curb! That's not Classy at all. The barricade thing I made was an attempt to make something more accurate and fluid (you can edit the barricade template, but not the jpg- feel free to do that, by the way). Also, I've also updated the danger status thing to act as a means of getting the word out to other survivor groups and make things more accurate. Barrville isn't "very dangerous" anymore! It may bring the wrath of the RRF down on us, but it's not like they don't know we're here- besides, you can't have a fight without the other side, much less win one! I'll try to check out that forum sometime soon, but I've not had much time of late. You and yours are welcome to join the forum we've got running for the alliance entering town (the link is on the News Team's wiki). Stay Classy! --Ron Burgundy 08:33, 18 June 2006 (BST)

Example

Since you wanted examples, here you go…

Single Location, if there is actual content
Bagehot Way Police Department, complete with redirects from it's coordintes [73,18], and Bagehot Way Police Dept.
Grouped locations, if most of the 'content' is redundant and unhelpful
Dunell Hills Police Department, complete with redirects from all coordinates, the individual location pages "whatever police dept", and "whatever police department". Don't take that as what grouped pages 'should look like, that was merely one of the few examples I can remember off the top of my head. Grouped pages should be more in the style of NecroTech Millen Hills or Yagoton Churches.

It seems that so far you have been the only person to review Barricade plans of different suburbs. I saw that you said you "can't read" the Rhodenbank map, and had said that the UBP could be fairly conrete, and expressed a desire to see the map be a living map, so I decided to help out and review their plan. Since I was the first person other than you to review a plan, I just wanted to give you a heads up, and see that I wasn't stepping on your toes :) Ybbor 01:52, 3 July 2006 (BST)

A talk, if you will

This is important. Can either you, or a DEM "delegate" of sufficiently high rank to both know about… a particular something as well as have some influence get in contact with me. Before you ask, this ain't about getting back into the MPD. –Xoid STFU! 06:43, 24 July 2006 (BST)

E-Dogg's Reply

Sorry about listing under the DEM category, I didn't realise what I was doing as I'm quite new to the Wiki. I've removed it now. A 'DEM Supporter' template would be great though. E-Dogg 23:22, 25 August 2006 (BST)

Shearbank UBP

Sorry that it took so long, but I got the Shearbank UBP plan up to date using the template you provided. If you wouldn't mind, could you take a look at the Shearbank page and let me know if it looks okay. I didn't put it on the talk page because I have been communicating with the other groups in the area for a while now, and we all pretty much agreed that this would be the plan that would work best, and all have been adhering to it for weeks now. Thanks, --Vikermac 06:54, 28 August 2006 (BST)

Template Request

I'm not an active UD Player anymore but I'll do my best to get that template done for you as soon as I can. =D -- Krazy Monkey W! 19:50, 3 September 2006 (BST)

Axes High

Just tell them to add a request to M/U, and it'll be done in a heartbeat. –Xoid MTFU! 12:58, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Nevermind, someone else already did so, so I unprotected it. --Xoid 14:04, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Just to clarify M/P is the place to go for requesting unprotections (we don't have a dedicated page for it); M/U is for undeletions. --Xoid 16:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Why be an 'sshat?

Because I can be. PPPPPHHHHHHBBBBBBBBBBTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!! --SirensT RR 18:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
