History of the GHDU

The GHDU began as a small group composed of former members of the Galbraith Hills Defence Union. Following the dissolution of that group and the collapse of defenses in Galbraith Hills in January 2006, the five remaining veterans adopted guerilla tactics as an experiment to see how long a small, active group could survive in a central neighbourhood. The experiment worked. As the neighborhood began to stabilize, the GHDU grew steadily from 5 members to 16+ and began providing public revives and barricading safehouses throughout more of the neighborhood. Diplomatic ties were established with the Black Berets, another group founded by former members of the Galbraith Hills Defence Union, as well as with other former Galbraith Hills Defence Union allies.

The GHDU partially merged with the Black Berets in late February, thus increasing their resources and drawing a number of old friends back to town to help out with the effort to secure the area. It initially operated as a semi-autonomous strike team (the only strike team with a permanent location), with one member of the Black Beret leadership council representing its interests, but was fully integrated into the main organization in May.

While still primarily operating in Galbraith Hills, the GHDU no longer claim it as their homeland, and have helped out in other suburbs (including Crowbank and East Grayside) on occasion. However, they recognize a special responsibility to help maintain Galbraith Hills, as few other groups are active there.

In January 2007, some of the original GHDU members left the Black Berets to reform the Galbraith Hills Defence Union, a group that is entirely independent to the Berets. Members of both groups remain on good terms and continue to work together towards the defence of Galbraith Hills.

In April 2010 an original member of the GHDU who served as NORDAKS Northwest Section Chief has returned to restart the GHDU and bring safety back to Galbraith Hills.
