Templates Project

Removed the noinclude/category stuff from user pages that accidentally included it when they posted the template. I can see copying every thing on the page because you don't really know how it works and you don't want to screw it up. I may want to add a note to the templates for the users to remove the noinclude text. Talk: Suggestions page

According to the page history (which seems to be broken of late? so i may be in error here, but, this is how it appeared in the page history when I accessed it) it was put up by a regular user, without any commnunity consultation or anything. And, its language is quite inflammatory and frankly in no way helpful, constructive or drama-reducing. Quite the opposite...

There is a definite need for some kind of blurb up there -- in a VERY visible place -- which a) refers newbs very clearly to Dos and Don'ts etc., b) requests that they hang around for a while and get a feel for what flies and what doesn't and c) warns them that people will not always be nice to ideas they perceive as bad and/or people who don't take constructive critisicm well. This has actually been discussed amongst some of us regular Suggestions page people on IRC...

And as for the SA comment... There are a few of these "newbies'" who contribution histories and behaviors allude to the strong possibility that they were merely created to troll the Talk: Suggestions page with bad ideas and inane comments. Now, SA has a wonderful history and penchant for doing these kind of things... So they were my first suspects... Though, perhaps, I jumped the gun on that specific. But I don't care, either... Ok, yes, I was in error... I just caught the part in your message that said you placed that template there. However, I looked through the page history to see who put it there, and was unable to see that you put it there. What it did show was a large change, which included that template, which was attributed to the user who made the "Posters" suggestion. As I said, it seems like the histories are a bit glitched... However, I still stand by what I said above that your template was NOT CONSTRUCTIVE, and that it was in fact wholly counter-productive to address the current problems and flame wars going down on the Talk:Suggestions pages. I can almost assure you that the goons aren't trolling the wiki any more beyond the usual suspects. (even our "leader" Katthew hasn't posted in ages) Besides, most goons wear the SA connection quite clearly. We don't have "sleeper cells" on here. But we don't want to be associated with "unfunny" crappy suggestions beyond the Nail Gun horse we beat into the ground. :P

No one reads anything in the top blurb. That's why I added a big red template that I found. (I didn't make it) I think new users that keep posting crappy suggestions need to know that people aren't going to coddle them and might get quite snippy at them for being stupid. It was kind of a way to explain that you, Iscariot, and Grim (and so on) are well within your rights to "flame" them. I get tired of the suggestion posters taking the negative comments as attacks against them when they are just against the ideas. You know that that is where most new users flock to and they haven't been around long enough to know who knows WTF is up on here and who is just a douchebag.

And for the wiki record, I don't dislike you. (yeah, I might bitch at you and we will never agree on a lot of things :P) I get annoyed because I think that you have great intentions and do care about this wiki, but railing against the sysops isn't the way to get things changed. I think right now we have a good core group of sysops that want to improve the wiki and aren't power mad. Part of the problem is that we are still under the Draconian methods that were put in place when almost every sysop was just a power mad dick. (Now we are all just assholes :D) It doesn't help when users wiki lawyer and question every action because it doesn't fit the letter of some policy. (not saying you are doing that, but I think you know what I mean)

As far as being "Not constructive" and "counter-productive" I'm open to ideas. Maybe instead of that Welcome template on each new user page we should have a suggestion how to template. But as you well know, the talk:suggestions page needs something.

Goon trolling suggestions either target someone specifically or are racist or obviously stupid (the closest one would be the Horse suggestion except a goon would add something about fucking it to make fun of the furry players). If you really wanted to get to the bottom of this new influx you should start checking all of the new survivor groups that have sprung up. Personally, I don't care where they came from and I do believe they are truly that stupid. Or more like naive, I suppose. They just don't have the UD experience and probably have only been on sites/forums that they "got along" with everyone. changes to the page

I made some changes to the info blurbs at the top of the Talk:Suggestions page. In particular emphasising the How To stuff, including some tips about reading the Dos and Do Nots, and avoiding / dealing with trolling. This IMO is how to address the issue, as opposed to the template you put up earlier. (No that was NOT meant in a confrontational way.) Template classification

Not a problem! I'm a category nazi when it comes to the templates though in case you haven't seen my latest project. When you copy the code of a template just be sure you look at what

[[Category:]]

it has in it. Some templates are designed to place pages instantly in categories. If it has a category that isn't in between a

<noinclude>
