20070828 All Stickish Things Can Be Used To Barricade
Jon Pyre 16:49, 28 August 2007 (BST)
Suggestion type
Improvement
Suggestion scope
Building doors
Suggestion description
Pipes recently gained a new function for players without Construction, letting them use up the item to weakly barricade a door. Why just pipes? Anything tubular should be able to jam doorhandles. I suggest allowing baseball bats, cricket bats, fencing foils, ski poles, etc. all work the same way. If a player is level 3 or lower the game should give a warning before using up their item so a consumer does not expend their starting weapon without meaning to.

Keep Votes
- Keep Makes rarely useful items a bit more useful. Makes logical sense. Also Pipes called you fat, this will put them in their place. --Jon Pyre 16:50, 28 August 2007 (BST)\
- Keep- But no fencing foil.--Grigori 18:08, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep - I love it when people steal my ideas... :D --WanYao 18:14, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep - A terrrified, low level lone survivor, without a group panicking, running around, finaly finds an empty building, slams the door and wedges his baseball bat through the handles.... Safe. Or is he? Makes the game fun, I realy like it.--Seventythree 18:16, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep/Change - Fencing foils, golf clubs, and ski poles don't really have the same kind of strength as the other items, and would bend or break easily. Securing doors with these items shouldn't be allowed. Then again, maybe it should, just to cut down confusion on which allow it and which don't. --Steakfish 19:15, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep as long as it can be enterable if it's the only thing holding the building shut --Howard Bentley 20:53, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Re The way I figure it humans hop through windows half the time anyway. --Jon Pyre 21:06, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep Makes sense. --Pdeq 21:08, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Weak Keep - Meh --Ryiis 22:00, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Keeper I like it. But, I would suggest a change. BoboTalkClown 01:09, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep Yeah. Cooooool. --Secruss 02:49, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Good point. --Private Mark 03:15, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep Yes. Useless Items should have some use. --Driaquer 06:02, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Sure, why not? Just take out the fencing foil. --Hhal 20:31, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Shall I vote keep, or kill? Kill... kill... kill... ah, keep! --Abi79 AB 17:06, 31 August 2007 (BST)
- Keep Keep KEEP I love this idea and it would literally be a life-saver. I spent my first night in an uncaded place. I died. It would also help new consumers, as they start off with a useless baseball bat which could work as a barricade. Bastetmeow 10:21, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Mheh-- Vista +1 12:30, 4 September 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Humm the whole thing about a pipe is that its thick, strong, and and made of metal perhaps something to make pipes better, and hell why not be able to block a door with a fire axe while you're at it, one aught not have all the melee weapons without the cardinal one in an emergency. JD 01:25, 15 September 2007 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Kill - Baseball and cricket bats, fencing foils, ski poles etc. are all too fragile to be used for barricading. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 08:56, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Jam door with fencing foil? too fragile. --~~~~T''' 09:44, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Kill/Change - Basically, a good idea. However, as Steakfish pointed out, not all of the melee weapons should qualify for this purpose. Personally, the only ones I can imagine being useful for jamming doors shut are the metal pipe, baseball bat, crowbar and the fire axe (because of its handle). The others would either be too thick (cricket bat), too thin (ski pole), the wrong shape (tennis racquet), or too flimsy (golf club, knife, pool cue). -- Pavluk 11:35, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Not really true... A cricket bat could be used just fine to jimmy a door shut, and the other examples you give could be broken and twisted and used to jam a door shut in various jury-rigged ways. This isn't EHB protection, it's a desperate and improvised defense, i.e. loosely barricaded. And for simplicity's sake, it should really be ALL improvised weapons, or none of them, IMO. And... you forgot hockey sticks, and since I'm canadian, I can't let you forget hockey sticks!! :) --WanYao 16:10, 29 August 2007 (BST) Non Author RE. --Karekmaps?! 04:58, 30 August 2007 (BST)
- Kill - As Pesatyp said below. --Sonofagun18 15:57, 29 August 2007 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - Too soon and pipes are good enough anyway. This suggestion eliminates all rarity to the minibarricades by making most any item be able to create them, and while I don't mind the change please keep in mind that a fully skilled zombie can, at times, waste more than 20 AP on a loosely barricaded building. Wait and see how much it effects the game, come back in a month or three, it's been 4 fucking days.--Karekmaps?! 22:39, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Spam - Indeed. --The Grimch Sysop-U! 23:03, 28 August 2007 (BST)
- Spam I like the idea of differentiating the weapons. Axes are the "high damage" weapons. Knives are the "newbie" weapons. Crowbars are (technically) "anti-barricade" weapons. Pipes are "temporary barricade" weapons. The Pool Cue breaks (which isn't much, but it IS something). Come up with something interesting for the baseball bat, foil, cricket bat, golf club, hockey stick, ski pole and tennis racket instead of just making them all do the same stuff.--Pesatyel 02:47, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- As Karek and Pesatyel.--ShadowScope 02:53, 29 August 2007 (BST)
- Screw it. I'm not giving a reason for the rest of my votes in this spree.-- dǝǝɥs oʇ ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 17:12, 9 September 2007 (BST)
