20070516 '/me' style Flavour Action Text.

Makazaru 00:16, 17 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Improvement: Flavour Action text, using common /me functionality in several other games.

Suggestion scope
Survivors, and possible Zombies, but this was designed for survivors to match the "Gesture" style zombie skill.

Suggestion description
Several games, along with having a chat system, also have an Emote system, triggered by several text words in a chat field, such as /laugh, /cry, /sleep. For those who play World of Warcraft, this should be easily understood. Often games like this, and indeed, simple IRC chatrooms as well, have a functionality where you can make up your own emote, or describe what you are doing, by using the notation '/me' then typing what their character is doing. For example. In Caiger mall, instead of saying "Oh, that shop looks nice" and having to come out as
"Makazaru: Oh, that shop looks nice."
You could have it instead as "/me looks at the gunstore with wide eyes", and it would come out as
"Makazaru looks at the gunstore with wide eyes" This small addition would change nothing in the game mechanics, put no more load on the server, and cost the same AP as normal speech.
Also, by the same token, it could encourage text-rapists, and give them a new way to insult people. To combat this, if someone swears or uses an offensive verb in their custom action, then charge them the action point anyway, and either show nothing at all, or something mildly humerous such as "MRTEXTRAPIST waves their arms in the air, obviously trying to describe something" In conclusion, i believe that this simple improvement to the in-game chat could make for very humerous situations, more reasons for people to chat in-game and perhaps we could start a play company?
Makazaru: Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Makazaru exits stage left, clutching a bottle of poison.
If you have a suggestion to improve this, please, please let me know. Thankyou!

Please take a look at my little speech on the talk page. Thanks!

  2. Keep - It may be a dupe, but 1) I like it, 2) the other version was peer rejected, and 3) the other version is over a year old. I think it's been long enough to bring this up again, and besides... is it really a bad suggestion? --Uncle Bill 02:33, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - It may be a dupe, but some nazis rejected the previous version and I think it's a good idea, so KEEP. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 04:11, 17 May 2007 (BST)

  8. Dupe/SPAM: Why? Because it's already in the game: ShadowScope says "*waves his hands at a trenchcoater* Hey, Trenchy!" Therefore, there is no need for emotes. Can we please save Keavn the energy so that he can save the game?--ShadowScope 09:17, 18 May 2007 (BST)
