20080124 Improved Spray Can Uses

Magnum Odus 17:14, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Improvement to spray paint via the addition of of uses.

Suggestion scope
Everyone.

Suggestion description

As the people of Malton become more jurisdictional, it is a given that their need to mark their space. With the improved spray paint, they would be able to do just that.

Notable uses

The marking of barricades, radios and generators

This would simply add colour X in front of a noun. Exampli gratia, "A portable generator has been set up here. It has been painted blue."

One could go further and spray paint logos onto these things too. It would add to role playing situations wherein a character would be able to mark the outside of a building with a red X. Other situations would benefit from this too.

Tagging other survivors

Unlike my preliminary idea, the marking of survivors would be limited to their profile page. It would give PKers a chance to mark their kills before they discard the body; victims of PKers would be able to mark the offending party; besieged NT workers would be able to mock the zombie outside.

To reduce the use of bad language, the tags would be limited to three letters. A person could only be tagged three times before the message becomes, "A jumbled mess of paint covers [player]'s back".

The paint would dry up and crumble after two days, by which time it will describe the clothes the person is wearing. For example: "Severely paint-stained shoes." This would not take affect if the person was also covered in blood.

The person would be able to remove the markings from their profile by changing their clothes.

Spray paint would only be usable twice per day per person if used for this purpose.

Active combat usage

This would also come into use if you were to log in and find yourself being attacked. Used as a weapon, the paint would reduce your opponents ability to hit you by 5% for the duration of 5AP's worth of action. This would juice up active combat by providing a new means of defense.

In closing

I believe that a few minor alterations to the way spray paint works would make the came more realistic. By following the methods described above, it would also eliminate the threat of spam; as well as becoming less unsightly to those who do not want to see a rainbow of names in front of them. The three letter limit to tagging characters would allow other player to see that they had been marked, but they would have to follow up with additional research to find out WHY the person has been marked in such a way. From there, they can make up their own minds about their course of action.

Kill Votes

  1. Kill -- Ya, no... reducing attack %? ummm, that's almost as bad as messing with AP. no, annnnnd no to that. you know where i havne't seen this idea? that's here, give it a go sometime. -- Jack S13 T! PC 17:57, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill- The combat thing is dangerously close to messing with AP and the tagging players is dupish.Studoku 18:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - UD survivors are not cats. Besides, it seems to me that spraying generators is extremely foolhardy. If I were in an apocalypse and there were this piece of machinery giving the building I was in electricity, I don't think I would like to see people potentially ruining that piece of machinery by spraying paint onto it. I know in the game, we have an endless supply of generators, but for thematic purposes, we don't and we're afraid of running out of vital supplies. --Pgunn 19:56, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill a lot of the same reasons as the last version. I do like the idea of marking bodies though, I might not want a zed in my survivors contact list but I can think of several reasons to mark em! --Honestmistake 23:29, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. You had me until the "Use the spraycan as a weapon" part. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 17:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, at least I'm getting there. Magnum Odus 17:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - No Scarlet Letters Stop suggesting this crap.--Karekmaps?! 17:55, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
It isn't a scarlet letter this time, though. It's not going a big sign saying "PKer here"; it's just a way for people to have fun. If you're a PKer and someone goes into your profile, the chances are you're already dead.Magnum Odus 17:58, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
You're still painting people, that's a Scarlet Letter, even if it only appears in profile. The Spraypaint as a weapon part alone is enough for an overpowered spam though. Like, I said, stop suggesting this crap.--Karekmaps?! 18:11, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Fixed your broken indents. And: "paint would reduce your opponents ability to hit you by 5% for the duration of 5AP's worth of action". If for nothing else (and there's plenty else wrong with this), that bit of crap earns this a spam vote. (AP is not a unit of time, why would spray-painting someone's jacket make them worse at attacking you...) Honestly - did this go through discussion before getting here? --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 18:09, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - As Axe. Also, I don't want to make a pilgrimage to Tompson Mall every time someone decides to spraypaint my Stetson. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:20, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Spam - As Karek. Scarlet letter. - Headshot Hal 19:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Spam - Spray paint shouldn't be a weapon. --Druuuuu OcTRR 19:19, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam - As above. --Themanwhocares4 21:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spam - Spray paint as a weapon....? Unnecessary clutter on the game screen. Realism as an argument with regards to game mechanics? Also, you have a typo. -- Iscariot 23:13, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Spam - Up thar. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 23:14, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Spam - Potentially annoying, and serves no real good purpose. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 23:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
