Brain Rot: An Invisible Skills Tree

Flailing Grip: Zombie Target Coordination Skill

Timestamp: Jon Pyre 23:37, 13 October 2006 (BST)
Type: Skill
Scope: Zombies
Description: When a zombie breaks into a building they often don't have enough AP to do more than wound. You want the next zombie that comes in to attack the same target you started on. This is often not the first person on the list. For instance you'd be better off killing someone with a few skills farther down the list than a level 1 player at the very top. Flailing Gesture is great for signaling to zombies that are already there who to attack, but those players have probably already used up their AP. How do you signal what survivor to target to zombies that have yet to come?

Flailing Grip would be a subskill of Flailing Gesture. It's the classic zombie pose of outstretched hands trying to grasp at the zombie's target. It would indicate to other zombies the last survivor that was attacked by a zombie with Flailing Grip by a message that'd be the bottom line of the room description:

A zombie is lurching, arms outstretched towards SurvivorName.

If the zombie is killed the message dissapears. If another zombie with Flailing Gesture attacks then their message would overwrite the last one. If the survivor is killed the message dissapears. Survivors aren't as keen at picking up on zombie body language and would not see the message at all (to prevent this from being a "HEAL THIS PERSON" message). This is a small skill that would help zombies that break into a building better able to coordinate with those attracted to their groans. It's just a way of telling the next zed "Hey, I think we should attack this guy. Want to pick up where I left off?

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Author vote. A small but useful zombie coordination skill. --Jon Pyre 23:39, 13 October 2006 (BST)
  2. Keep Useful and practical. I wouldn't object if survivors could see it, but I still like it better this way. My concerns are the possibility of too many zombies gesturing around creating screen spam, or the results of my standing tactic of infectious biting everyone in the safehouse who's at full health. Those are probably trivial, though. --Burgan Black.png 00:01, 14 October 2006 (BST)
    • Re It can't create spam since it only shows the last zombie with Flailing Grip's target. --Jon Pyre 00:29, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  3. Keep Despite the incessant bitching and whining of the voters, this makes perfect sense. Your zombie's posture indicates to the other zombies "somebody finish off this bastard!" Allows low level zombies a chance to get some kill bonus XP for hording up, excellent. Zombie in game physical communication, different from human communication (unless you're deaf.) -MrAushvitz Canadianflag-sm.jpg 02:28, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  4. Keep - Despite it's "incompleteness", it's better than nothing. And I don't understand why people are saying that zombies don't need a siege buff, just because of what the big bash is doing. The big bash is composed of so many zombies that it actually makes most suburbs safer due to the decreased zombie presence in all areas except those occupied by the big bash. And even the big bash is afraid of caiger mall. This tells you just how much zombies need a buff. Even the most feared zombie mega-horde currently in the game refuses to attack caiger mall. And until the day caiger mall falls to zombies after a 2+ week siege, then it will be clear that zombies are grossly underpowered in sieges, considering that humans are supposed to be running from the zombies and using hit-and-run tactics, rather than standing their ground and winning. --Reaper with no name 03:55, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  5. Because it helps turn this game into what it's supposed to be. A zombie apocalypse, as opposed to what it is, a survivor apocalyspe. Oh, and to the morons who think zeds have the advantage, look at the stat screen, idiot! It's a 55%/45% split! That means survivors have the advantage. The game should be about a 30%/70% split. --Pinpoint 07:17, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  6. keep - Mostly because it so sterotypical of the zombies to break through the baricades and grab hold of some poor sucker who then gets ripped to pieces by the horde while everyone else runs away. To be honest, I don't think this would give the Zombies a huge advantage. I have to say to Pinpoint, that 55%/45% figure has been pretty steady for a long time, which indicates that 45% zombies can hold their own against 55% survivors. Therefore, the zombies must have an advantage over the survivors. If you want a 30%/70% mix, then survivors would have to be made a LOT more powerful to hold that ratio steady. The Mad Axeman 11:13, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  7. Keep - Me Like :) --MarieThe Grove 12:59, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  8. Keep - Especially useful for new zombies who have followed a feeding groan to a cracked building, but do not know who is injured or healthy --Gene Splicer 16:12, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  9. Helps zombies cooperate and is therefore awesome. Rheingold 20:09, 14 October 2006 (BST)
Keep We hold these skill to be self awesomeness. --Officer Johnieo 01:21, 15 October 2006 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill Surely they can just use Scent Blood/Diagnosis to see which one has slightly less AP than the rest? --BBM 23:45, 13 October 2006 (BST)
    • Re Not if they are low level zombies without the skill. It's the same as a survivor saying "There's a zombie with brain rot in the revive point. Anyone want to clear him out?" and having a military player without science skills go do the kill. This is also useful if there are multiple wounded characters and you want to indicate who you want to kill out of them. --Jon Pyre 23:51, 13 October 2006 (BST)
  2. Kill - The survivors should also see the message. --Funt Solo 23:50, 13 October 2006 (BST)
    • Re That'd make it counterproductive. Survivors were excluded from hearing feeding groans most of the time for the same reason. --Jon Pyre 23:51, 13 October 2006 (BST)
      • Re - "A zombie is lurching, arms outstretched towards SurvivorName." ... but only grown ups zombies can see it. I think it's overpowered and not needed. Zombies have shown recently that they don't need any kind of seige buff. --Funt Solo 00:30, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  3. The way you've made it, it doesn't make sense for survivors not to see it (as Funt just pointed out), and it's a bit weird that they magically stop pointing when the guy dies... shouldn't it say 'pointing at a body' or something? Also, it's not complete... what if they survivor leaves and comes back? And where in the skill tree does this come? I had an idea similar to this where, as a subskill of tangling grasp, once the zombie has 'grasped' (successfully done a hand attack), they can choose to 'mark' the survivor in some way that they and other survivors don't see; until the survivior dies, moves a few squares, or is healed; but it wouldn't work well without some kind of timeout. --ExplodingFerret 00:18, 14 October 2006 (BST)
    • Re Oh, I forgot about that. If they leave then it also gets rid of the message. As for why survivors can't see it. It's partially an issue of game balance. For instance zombies can use Diagnosis, Survivors can use Scent Death to detect reviving bodies, things don't always need to make sense if they're good for the game. But I figure that zombies, as communal feeders might be better at picking up cues from their fellow zombies. --Jon Pyre 00:28, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  4. Er what now? - Too confusing. Resubmit with changes/put on talk page. (In a Bill Cospy voice) Right now I can't tell what you mean with all the Re's and assupmtions, and unanswered questions! --Officer Johnieo 01:43, 14 October 2006 (BST)
Update : Changed vote to keep when Jon Prye paid me money to do so. --Officer Johnieo 01:21, 15 October 2006 (BST)
    Note - Invalid formatting/comment fixed/struck. --Funt Solo 15:39, 16 October 2006 (BST)
  5. Kill - Just another zed buff, when zeds have the advantage as it is.Blue Command Vic 01:52, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  6. Kill-Resubmit with changes. Kevan may decide to add this suggestion later on, in the future, combining this with a surivior upgrade. And, reaper, the reason Zombies don't go up against Caiger Mall is that they believe Caiger is full of bots and zergers. You can't win if the other side is cheating. Therefore, it is, for all intents and purposes, OUTSIDE of Urban Dead and useless.--ShadowScope 04:53, 14 October 2006 (BST)
  7. Kill - Zeds are the dominating group in this game, They already have enough buffs in this area (like feeding groan, feeding drag, flailing gesture etc etc...) and they really dont need more. Neat idea though.--Mr yawn Scotland flag.JPG 09:28, 14 October 2006 (BST)
    • Re I actually think both sides are pretty balanced. Survivors also have nice goodies (generators, surgery, bargain hunting, etc.) I'm just in favor of new skills to keep the game fresh for old playes. It's good if both sides get new features occasionally. --Jon Pyre 13:35, 14 October 2006 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe -Or am I misreading what Flailing Gesture DOES? Flailing Gesture allows zombies to point at...nearby zombies, and nearby humans. You can select which human to point at by name....--Pesatyel 22:44, 15 October 2006 (BST)
