Derringer

Timestamp: ShadowScope 18:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Type: New Gun.
Scope: Suriviors.
Description: The Derringer is a small pistol, easily concealable, and can be used in order to target and attack people without getting caught in the act. It is a small weapon, that is not very powerful, but it is useful nevertheless. A Derringer can carry only 2 bullets.

You can find it in Police Stations at search odds of 0.5/1%, and Fort Amouries at 1%/2%. A Derringer Clip (which holds 2 bullets) can be found at 1.5%/3% at Police Stations and Fort Amouries, so that a person an easily reload the derringer.

The derringer takes up 2 spaces, and has a 2% encumbrance (for role play purposes, due to the fact it is small). It starts off as an accuracy of 5%, and do get increased by Basic Firearms Training and Pistol Training, however, its accuracy has a maximum of 50%. Advanced Pistol Training cannot increase the accuracy of the derringer. The derringer does 4 damage when it hits an enemy.

It is a weak gun, as it only does 2 damage/AP...However, there is a benefit to it. When you attack someone with a derringer, this person does not know who attacked him, and cannot get your name and profile ID . Instead, you get this:

An unknown shooter attacked you.

This applies, even if you are killed by the unknown shooter. However, if the unknown shooter decides to, say, use a shotgun, or an axe, you will be able to figure out WHOM attacked you. You do not know who the unknown shooter is, but since you see someone else use a different gun, you can conclude that person is the PKer. This means that if the PKer does not want you to know who attacked and killed you, he MUST use the Derringer at all times. Otherwise, if he switch weapons, the person will be able to find the profile ID and name of the latest attack with the pistol, shotgun, or axe...and his attempts to cover up the crime...becomes useless.

HOWEVER: As soon as a PKer KILL you with the Derringer, everyone else knows who did it. The victim does not know, but everyone else has that person's profile ID and name. A shot by a pistol is not noticeable, but as soon as a dead body hits the ground, everyone can conclude who the killer is, and can target and shoot him. The victim may not know, but if he has friends who is willing to avenge him, the friends can alert the victim, while hutning down the PKer and killing him in revenge.

So, the Derringer becomes useful if you do not want the person you are attacking to know that he is being attacked. It is also useful if a PKer or a Bounty Hunter want to do a hit-and-run attack, harming someone until they have a little HP left, and then fleeing, so that the victim does not know who target him. The problem is that the PKer and the Bounty Hunter has to waste AP finding the derringer, and since the derringer is weaker than the pistol or shotgun, it seems as though you are lucky. The murderer gives up power and damage potential in order to gain stealth.

There is also something else: A survivor can use the derringer in order to target zombies, preventing the zombies from knowing who is active, and avoiding retaliation.

Overall, this is a new type of gun, with an in-game use that allows for stealth at the cost of damage potential. Thanks to Dux Ducis for the original idea and Peastyel for refining it.

  1. Kill -It's a reasonable thought out suggestion. There are some minor points though, It used to be that any activity placed you as the last on the list of names, has that changed?. If not then Zombies already know who is active or not regardless if you shoot with a shotgun or derringer . So the only benefit is for Pkers. Most of the people in-game do not meta game what makes friends informing you highly unlikely. This game is about a struggle between zombies and survivors, while there is nothing wrong with Pking introducing items that only benefits them is against the flavor and point of the game, IMHO. --Vista 18:42, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Again, stealth is bad. I'd be very angry if an option were introduced that prevented me from knowing who killed me. If you think you have the balls to PK, you should have the balls to let everyone know about it. --c138 RR - PKer 19:01, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Change it so the rest of the room doesn't know who killed the person and I'll vote keep, otherwise this is just useless. --Gm0n3y 19:26, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Though I'm not experienced with the game or zergers, I'd say a person could shoot a person with a derringer until they have minimum possible health without killing them, and have one of their zerglings (or whatever you call them) deal the finishing blow. The zergling will take the blame, hiding the actual PKer completely. So, encourages zerging and PKing. --Storyteller 20:34, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill- While I don't mind the initial concept, take it out of forts and put it in bars, if not just for the sake of logic. I doubt any fort in the history of mankind has stocked a supply of derringer pistols, but you're sure to find them in pubs. Maybe rename it to "Pocket Pistol" as well, as not everyone knows what a derringer is.--Grigori 20:46, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill - As far as introducing new firearms, this is probably the only one I would support. However, I would not support this suggestion. For one thing, it only benefits PKers. If you happen to be online when the PKer is shooting you (rare, I know, but still possible), then they get an advantage. Pound for pound they already nerf zombies; why would you want to give them a buff? Plus, it just doesn't make sense. Derringers may be easily concealable, but they aren't silenced. A shot from a derringer isn't significantly less loud or flashy than any other gun. When you get shot with a gun, it doesn't matter what type it is; as long as you are looking in the right direction (assuming you're not being sniped at from really far away, of course), you can tell who's shooting you. --Reaper with no name TJ! 21:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  7. Kill As Funt below, but the suggestion is well presented and thought through, thus not a spam. - BzAli 23:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill - PKing is part of the game, but not a part that should be explicitly encouraged. Besides, if you were shot, would you not be able to figure out who shot you? I mean, it's pretty obvious: the person holding the smoking gun. --Saluton 00:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  9. Kill I want to know who just killed me thank you very much. --Kamden 02:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  10. Kill - See above. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 06:59, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  11. Although I would encourage PKing...I'd do it by making a name of myself. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 11:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  12. Kill - There would only be 2 uses for this -- Attacking a player down to low health or killing a player in an empty building. Neither of these uses have any drawbacks aside from lower accuracy/damage. Encourages griefing and PKing. This would initiate a new and better twist on zombie anonymity -- PKer anonymity. --Matt Scott 9 12:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  13. Kill - As above. --Specialist290 16:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  14. Kill - Only of benefit to PKers and PKers are baaaaaaaaaad. The Hierophant. 19:27, 23 March 2007.
  15. Kill - As C138. --ZombieSlay3rSig.png 19:29, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

  3. Amazing Ninja Assasins! -We already have Amazing Ninja Assasins who preform the killing and vanish in a puff of smoke. We do not need Amasing Ninja Assasins who nobody can tell who he is. --AlexanderRM 02:28, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
