Contest
Yup, this is just what is says it is. The Game Statistics page shows the declining number of Christmas Trees left standing in the game, and the only real question is, when will the count reach zero?
Is This a Joke?
Of course it is. Its also a real contest with a real prize. It may also just be the first ever UDwiki community event that isn't 100% virtual.
The Prize
The prize for the winner of the UDWiki Christmas Tree Dead Pool is one hand crafted UD Themed Christmas Tree ornament made by yours truly. It might just be a gory rubber eyeball hanging from a piece of string with a scribbled note in marker, or it might be a master crafted trophy piece of fimo-clay and chicken bone artistry- if you win and don't like it, sue me. I'm a pretty good sculptor and modeler, with a sick sense of humor (obviously) so chances are it is gonna be "something special". I will pay shipping costs inside the Continental USA; overseas winners might have to settle for a "virtual" ornament, depending on shipping costs, or maybe we can get donations to defray the expense.
Of course, you also get bragging rights. Probably a template or something for your page too. Whatever, its just a stupid game. ;)
The Rules
Each contestant can select a one week period during which they think the last Christmas Tree will vanish from Malton. No two periods may overlap. If a period between two entries is shorter than seven days, an entry may be made for that short period, and however many of the soonest available days needed to make up to seven, but you can not intentionally "split" your period, or "bracket" another entry. Instead, you must take the ENTIRE short period between two entries if your entry is affected in this manner, or shift your entry so that it is not split.
The winner will be decided if and when the above page linked to ever indicates that the Christmas Tree population has dropped below zero, even if it subsequently goes back above zero at a later time.
It is possible that there are people out there who still have Christmas Trees in their inventories, who could set them up when the count gets low. That's OK. If the count reaches zero, the pool is won at that point, even if it later goes back up above zero. That is, assuming anybody notices it went below zero. Screen shots would be nice, but could easily be faked, so I'll need two confirming sources besides the winner, if this happens. Or I just need to see it myself.
It is also entirely possible that people will attempt to kill / defend Christmas Trees in order to win this pool. That's OK. In fact, it is ENCOURAGED.
You can not change your entry once submitted, or while you have an entry, but if your entry dates slip by, your entry will be deleted and you are free to make another, per the above rules. SOMEBODY should win this thing.
Any question / debates / requests for adjudications of these rules should be directed to Talk:Christmas Tree Dead Pool. But come on folks, its really pretty simple, and this ain't the Publishers Clearinghouse prize we are talking about. Keep it civil. And yes, my rulings will be final- its my idea, and my prize.
One final (obvious) rule- don't fuck around with editing these rules and stuff, or the pool list. Good faith edits only, no vandalism. Cheating will be considered vandalism and will be reported.
How to Enter
Simply enter your selected dates into the list below in chronological order by "expiration date" and not by order made / recieved. Entries must be in dd/mm/yy format. Entries given are for from 0:00 GMT of the first date through 0:00 GMT of the second date. In other words, the last date of one entry CAN also be the first date of the next.
You must sign your entry. Please follow the format of the list- its pretty obvious and simple, I'm not gonna explain it, but will revert the edit if I can't figure stuff out. Note that many of these entries are ported from the Mall Tour '07 message board where the idea originated, and so are signed by me, not by the entrant.
