20080103 Color Radio Frequencies

Jon Pyre 06:17, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Improvement

Suggestion scope
Radio broadcasts

Suggestion description
One of my characters has multiple radios and it can be difficult to tell which frequency the different broadcasts are coming in on. Sometimes I might lose an important missive on a less used frequency in the chatter of spam from another station. For instance I might miss a Channel 4 News Broadcast amid the noise from the local suburb frequency.

I suggest allowing people to save a small number of radio stations as a certain color on their settings page (perhaps four?) and have that frequency number colored whenever they hear a broadcast. So you'd see 27.04 but the rest of the message would appear as normal, in the current color.

Mechanics wise there would be a text box to enter the frequency on your settings page, and a drop down menu with a few color options. To avoid confusion with the contact colors, these should be different, using different shades. Perhaps colors with less saturation so they appear as tinted grey.

This would be useful to everyone with multiple radios, or for those that want to distinguish the messages from the radio they carry from the ones coming from a transmitter (since the transmitter would appear as the current default if you don't change that frequency).

If you don't want colored radio frequencies you may leave the color as is for all stations.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep I think this would be really useful for reducing the problem of radio spam for those that still want to use radios. --Jon Pyre 06:18, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - Interface improvement in keeping with giving colour to contact lists. --Pgunn 11:48, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - As Revenant. This is just the sort of feature that is best done by extension, because many people (such as the spam voters and me) wouldn't want it, while other might want it formatted different. The reason for the vote is that I don't need a bunch of useless options. The extension thing is a further comment. --PdeqTalk* 07:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - as Pdeq --~~~~ [talk] 09:09, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Not realy neccisary.--SeventythreeTalk 13:53, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Another needless complicated addition to the game. Stop suggesting crap for the sake of suggesting crap! --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 06:18, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Grim Your spam votes are all the motivation I need to produce more of these. Fortunately I only suggest things I personally want in the game, not just to spite you. This problem bugged one of my characters today. This suggestion would solve that. So stop trying to pick out motivations Dr. Freud and ctfo. --Jon Pyre 06:38, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - As Grim. --Ryiis 06:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Needless spam in the profile editing section, needless annoying color. If you don't want to listen to a channel don't listen to the channel, Peace Prize ME, I just solved all of Malton's problems.--Karekmaps?! 06:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Re Radio transmitters broadcast whether you have a radio or not. I mention that in the suggestion, if you hadn't just skimmed it. Don't wait on Sweden. --Jon Pyre 06:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
      • Re You can ignore those, don't wait on a brain, the wizard is out this week.--Karekmaps?! 06:46, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Useless eyesore/clutter. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 06:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Spam – Incredibly unnecessary as a game feature. However, this is exactly the sort of thing Greasemonkey is good at. May I suggest speaking to someone like Mortal? He's accepting suggestions for his new script. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 06:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Re An extension is not a valid reason to vote spam. Many people play from library, work, or school computers, or don't want to install programs just to play one specific game. Come on man, seriously. --Jon Pyre 06:34, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Then re-read: "Incredibly unnecessary as a game feature." You can already choose to ignore transmitters and listen only to radios you are carrying. Most people have absolutely no need for this. I suggested creating a Greasemonkey script in case this was something you actually wanted to use. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 07:32, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Spam - -- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 07:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Unjustified vote struck.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  12:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Suicidal, you know that was pushing it. If Sockem's vote was unjustified, that sure as hell was.
  6. Spam - as Grim. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 10:41, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam - Just ignore the spam from the transmitters if it bothers you that much. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
