20100724 Zed Zerg mini-hordes

Spammagnet 17:40, 24 July 2010 (BST)

Suggestion type
Skill

Suggestion scope
Zombies

Suggestion description
Basically a way of making the Zed threat more "realistic" and countering the Survivor advantage by increasing Zed numbers but balancing out the sum of Zed abilities to prevent overcompensation.

Starting point is a fully qualified Zombie, nothing left to spend XP on.

For every X amount of XP (100 for arguments sake) they gain they have the opportunity to permanently give up a skill in return for an approved alt zombie upto a total of 5. This alt Zombie cannot be levelled up, is much weaker and slower (20AP/10HP) than a normal Zombie and essentially fulfils the role of the random zombie extra in the movies - nuisance value and target practice as individuals but dangerous in groups. (ie the shufflers)

Obviously the "Master Zombie" (for want of a better term) would be weakened via loss of skills, not ap/hp considerations. No impact on alts if master is killed or vice versa.

A maxed out Zombie account holder could now have 100AP (50+(20x5)) to play with but a seriously diminished skill set.

Gameplay Impact.

There would be increased Zombie/Survivor contact with lots of slow, weak "shufflers" moving around. Consequently lots more random pot shots taken at lone zombies but attacks not followed up etc.

Increased intel for the Zombies although this would be limited to metadata sharing with the "master" and from them to the wider community.

It would be almost impossible to guess the strength of a small zombie group. Survivors would probably end up biting off more than they could chew in stands against what were thought to be weak groupings of "shufflers"

Truly massive hordes!

Sieges would be more uncertain, is it a group of "shufflers" or a normal group? The loss of certain skills would weaken the individual "master zombie" attack whilst the "shufflers" increased the confusion, target choice and subsequent confusion etc.

Basically I believe this would massively increase the fear, confusion and potential to make a catastrophic mistake amongst the survivor population whilst shifting the actual advantage only slightly towards the Zombies.

Notes for mongtype clarity -

Maths fail was due to a change of plan halfway through, should read 100 (50 + (10x5)) ie lots of weak, slow zombies kicking around.

No auto control, same controls as currently.

The alt zed / skill swap would be from a predefined list of 5 skills all regularly used by most players.

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - A zombie could throw away skills it would never use to get what amounts to a 10HP/20AP boost. This suggestion is fundamentally broken, and will never be implemented. Next time, read the Suggestions Dos and Do Nots. --AORDMOPRI ! T 20:38, 24 July 2010 (BST)

  9. spam - it is such a sad reflection on UD's fanbase that this is the first noob in over a year to make a suggestion that isn't about "the zombies are winning too much!" paranoia. I am so relieved to finally see one that I was inclined to vote keep. -- 07:41, 25 July 2010 (BST)
