It could be abused by a zerger, or even a co-ordinated group, whereby they alternate emotions so that instead of it saying "X does Y and again..and again..." it would be:

"X does Y"
"X does Z"
"X does Y"
"X does Z" and so on.

Personally I don't think its much of an issue and would like to see it implemented regardless. But it is one flaw in the suggestion.--Thekooks 23:06, 12 April 2008 (BST)

That is true. Of course, just talking would have the same exact effect, with no need to alternate actions. And it would annoy up to 50 people, not just one person. Or they could use radio broadcasting the same way, and annoy everybody in the location, plus untold others who are in locations that have radios / carry radios that are set to that freq. So while its not spam free, its spam potential is far lower than existing emotive methods. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 23:52, 12 April 2008 (BST)

Re AHLG

If you notice in the suggestion, Swiers specifies that this would be handled like any other attack. Hence, if someone tapped you multipe times, it would be collapsed into "and again" reptitions. --Hhal 00:23, 13 April 2008 (BST)

I'd rather have it just "X poked you" instead of "X poked you... and again.... and again.... and again..." --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:31, 13 April 2008 (BST)

Tap on Shoulder

Timestamp: SIM Core Map.png Swiers 17:52, 31 March 2008 (BST)
Type: improvement
Scope: all characters
Description: Sometimes you just want to let another character know you are present (or have been passing through) without alerting everybody in the room. "Tap on Shoulder" would be a new attack type available to all characters. It would have a 100% chance to hit, and do 0 damage. As such, you could "tap" somebody, and they would get a message saying "NameHere tapped your shoulder." Obviously, nobody else would see the action, just as they do not currently see attacks with do not kill.

Why is this an attack? Simply because its easy to implement that way (the game already reports attacks in this way) and because it avoids cluttering up the interface with a new action type.

Discussion (Tap on Shoulder)

OMG I love it! <3 :) --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 22:19, 31 March 2008 (BST)

So, a 0 damage attack that has a 100% success rate? If you're doing an alert type thing, a sort of programmable "message" might be helpful. Personalize your taps. --Vandurn 22:24, 31 March 2008 (BST)

Well, the obvious thing that leads to is "whispering". which afaik has been suggested before. The whole point of this is its (probably) much simpler to implement, has little potential for abuse, and would incur minimal server overhead. But yeah, I suppose there could be multiple "tap" types, like "Friendly Pat" or "Angry Shove." As long as they fit the "attack" text format (or it can be adopted to work with them) those seem within this suggestion's scope. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 23:01, 31 March 2008 (BST)

I like this idea, especially if you could do "Friendly Pats" and "Angry Shoves". But you'd have to put some sort of controls on it. I don't want to wake up to "OMGLOLPERVERT" having tapped me 40 times. I suggest perhaps you can only tap a player twice in a 24 hour period. --Hhal 00:40, 1 April 2008 (BST)

One question: Why?--Pesatyel 05:47, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Say you are a PKer and have PKer friend you see when passing through a mall. You might give him a tap to let him know you were passing through, as opposed to calling attention to his presence by shouting out his name. Also, when there;s more than 50 people present, you canlt even be sure any one of them will hear what you say- but they WILL see a report of a tap. Also, its a small communications buff for zombies (who could use it to tap other zombies they recognize) - not in any meaningful way, but in a way that makes them a bit less isolating to play. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 06:44, 1 April 2008 (BST)
Oh ok, then it nerfs cell phones I believe, doesn't it? And that's a bad example. Give me one that doesn't involve PKers.--Pesatyel 04:15, 2 April 2008 (BST)

Ingenious. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 07:54, 1 April 2008 (BST)

i like it, it'd cost 1ap right? which hhal pretty much voids your concern, omglolpervert would be unlikely to waste 40 ap taping you. besides, it'd show up as omglolpervert tapped you on the shoulder. and again. and again. and again. does that really bother you?--xoxo 09:02, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Right in both cases. Its handled as an attack would (1 AP cost, report compession) be because it IS an attack. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 10:01, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Wow, a bright idea. I like it. -- User:Ashnazg:Ashnazg 1151, 1 April 2008 (GMT)

Also useful for letting someone know that you could have killed them if you wanted to. --Uncle Bill 15:13, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Good suggestion, so long as it's not changed to 'poke', facebook completley killed that for me, took all the fun out of it. Still, tapping somone on the shoulder would be quite awesome, but is there a zombie version of it? I think a horde of 30 zedz tapping you on the shoulder would rather kill your spirit. Acoustic Pie 19:37, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Yeah, there probably should be differently named "attacks" for zombie and survivor use. But what non-violent actions would be in genre for zombies to perform on survivors? I suppose "reached" would work: "A zombie reached for you, doing 0 damage." SIM Core Map.png Swiers 03:32, 2 April 2008 (BST)

seen the april fools day thing? confused the hell outa me, cause i saw this and thought maybe it was drasticly modified and implemented.--Themonkeyman11 02:59, 2 April 2008 (BST)

That's what I was thinking about this suggestion - it sounds a lot like the April Fools 'poke' thing. I had no idea what that was about because I've never used Facebook. But the idea for the tap on shoulder (or dare I say it, poke) sounds pretty good. I play a game called Asheron's Call where they have something sort of like this called PK-Lite. This sounds a little like that (ie, I coulda killed you if I wanted!)--Tselita 15:38, 2 April 2008 (BST)

make it so the person has to be in your contacts list and you have a deal (or, you should be able to disable this, see all taps, see taps from contacts, ignore taps). just like cell's you can't text a person you've not met, why should you be able to secretly contact someone you don't know? though, i do enjoy punching my friends and calling them dirty names just to get their attention. -- Jack S13 T! PC 18:41, 2 April 2008 (BST)
This isn't "private communication" like a cell phone- its an actual attack. You need to be in the same location to do it, etc. Given that you can punch or heal any stranger (even zombies) present in your location, I see no reason you could not touch them to get their attention without having known them beforehand. Basically this just removes the chance of missing with a punch, but also the chance of doing damage. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 23:53, 2 April 2008 (BST)
That still doesn't explain why you want to do it. You see your friend in the room, you take out your phone and tell him which is 100% in and of itself anyway. Why bother with this "attack" when you already have a tool to do it?--Pesatyel 05:00, 3 April 2008 (BST)
Because they might not be a mutual contact, or they might not have a cell phone. --Uncle Bill 01:52, 4 April 2008 (BST)
Good point, thanks.--Pesatyel 04:17, 4 April 2008 (BST)
No problem. That's why I'm here! --Uncle Bill 05:54, 4 April 2008 (BST)

Why not whispering? Otherwise, a good idea. --BoboTalkClown 00:58, 5 April 2008 (BST)

Whispering is another good suggestion idea. --Tselita 02:21, 13 April 2008 (BST)
